You know you're an Old Golfer when...

I've a decent collection of DT Wound. When I was a Junior, I couldn't usually afford balata balls, so  I only played them on very special occasions, like the city junior open.

The DT Wound balls are OK, but I find them to play on the less spinny side of the wound balls I have. I like the wound Maxfli DDH balls, and the Maxfli Elite is pretty good, too.

If I recall correctly, the Maxfli DDH Balata was the reason they started checking to see if the players were actually playing the balls they were sponsored by. Many Titleist golfers were using the Maxfli.

This was in the late eighties or early nineties.

Others have probably said these already, but, you know you are an old golfer when you:

- remember playing the 'small' ball, the 1.62" and thought the big ball 1.68" was something of a novelty

- still think graphite is a bit suspicious because you remember the early ones that you had to really wait on

- tell younger golfers that your persimmon headed driver was about the same size as their hybrid, and had a heavy steel shaft as well.

For us in the states it was just the opposite played the big 1.68 ball and the small " English Sized" balls as we called them was a novelty.

Note: My old man ran a course and he had friends in the UK who used to ship over the small balls. We got a mix of Titleist, Spalding Dot, Slazenger , Penfold and of course Dunlop 65. He turned a profit on all of them selling them to the hustlers. In fact I still have a collection of Penfolds and a couple of new unopened Dunlop 65s. He used to get a couple shipments a year like 50 dozen at the time mixed. I do know he sold them for like $50 a dozen to the big money hustlers who did not blink at the price. I know finding one in decent shape was a prize. I could get $2 a piece for used ones from the weekend hustlers. I remember one kid got DQ from a school match for using one. He was not trying to cheat he just did not know. All he knew was he found a Titleist in good shape.

That is great. I didn't know that was a thing at all in the US.

Either way, though, if we both remember the two ball sizes both being around, neither of us are spring chickens!.

We have a new breed of senior at our club. They have traded in the lovely BMWs and Mercs and bought EVs. Even worse than buying a people carrier. Their second trait is they will go out with a base layer, polo and padded gilet, warm hat....and shorts.

🤣🤣 Got a few like that at my club

I had forgotten ( as usual) I had posted about my right knee. After tests it was determined that I have no structural wear etc. A lot of my problem was too much acid in my system that comes from eating too much pasta and bread. I changed my diet and have not had any problems so far. I also went back on my CBD that seems to help my general overall health. It was also inconclusive that at times the permanant nerve damage in my back can contribute. But overall I am getting good exercise play at least 9 holes a day ( but not on Sunday) if not more riding. Started on a new routine this week I play at least 9 and if I cut across to the back 13 holes and then do a range session. Yesterday did an extended range session and had no pain or stiffness

Those CBD's, you rub that stuff or do you smoke it?   Asking for a friend.  🙂

Must be something about getting old that causes your lower extremities to not feel the cold. It's either that or someone forget to tell them it's time for long pants. 🙂

Got one fella, about 65 and it's so cold outside with the wind blasting off winter hill in the UK north and he's in shorts....in winter, nice fella but how he's not cold???

There used to be a forklift mechanic that serviced our lifts that would come to our company in 30 degree weather wearing a short sleeved shirt and shorts. I wanted to just smack him sometimes 😁.

Meh, some of us merely have tolerance for cold having grown up in the north.  I get asked regularly “aren’t you cold?” wearing shorts and a polo when its in the 40s and 50s down south.  The heaviest gear I packed for Texas winter was a hoodie and a pair of jeans. They’ve never left the closet last winter.

There was a national camp for kids 12 to 17 a few weeks ago.  Two young players from my course were invited because they are great little players who are already ranked.  They are both 12 and when they came back they tell me there was a grandpa wearing a black hat who showed up to say hello; he talked to the kids about training and healthy eating and the need of a positive attitude to play golf.  I asked them who the old man was, which I already knew.  One of them didn't remember, and the other one said it was I don't know the name Player.  I'm 49, but when I'm around these kids I feel very old.

This is your first day of retirement......learning to ask for the senior discount at the golf course....playing golf all this week but making your tee times around 11 because after getting up at 3:30am during the week most of your life you kind of want to sleep in a bit.

Retired 5 years now and it gets better every day.

My routine starts at 6am, sleeping in for my sleep cycle.  Coffee on, walk dog and drink 3/4 cups with breakfast before loading the golf bag with the day’s snacks.  Fill the quart water bottle with ice and water, head for course at 9.

I pay by the month for golf with cart.  Waaaay cheaper because 3-4 rounds a week pays for the month in the first week. Two 18 hole courses available and in excellent shape.

Bottom line, do what you enjoy and you’ll never look back with fondness at a long career with wistfulness. 😉  This is what we’ve earned.

I am not old, so I will call out my dad, who is old and retired.

You know your old when you lose your putter head cover on the first 4 holes, then I quit picking it up for him and it takes him another 4 holes to realize he lost it.

he has gone through 5 putter covers since I got him a new putter, I'm running out
