I live in Canada, so pennies don't exist anymore.  Also, for quite some time now I've never had the need to handle coins.  All my day to day transactions are with cards and the only time I use cash is when I buy things from other people like sneakers and golf equipment.

Was playing with a senior group early spring round. Greens had a dull gray-green sheen to them. I put down a small silver ball marker from my divot tool. A group member then planted his size 12 shoe right in the middle of my line.

 

I asked him to be more careful. He replied that I should switch to a poker chip-size marker so it would be easier to see.

Or use a ball marker that contrasts with the green.  Or perhaps on certain occasions don't mark but leave your ball there.  Unless it's a distraction or in someone's line.

A poker chip size marker is easier to see, and, I use one when, I am further out from the cup. I, usually, carry a smaller less obtrusive marker for when I am closer to the cup.

... I have a very zen like approach to putting and it has worked very well for me. I simply look at the line and allow my brain to take in the break without actively thinking about it. I don't pick out a line nor a spot to roll over and just trust my brain has read the break correctly, which of course it does if we don't get in it's way. I only concentrate on speed. A large colorful poker chip just causes a malfunction of that process as the brain is drawn to the large colorful object. Your routine sounds like a perfect solution as a poker chip doesn't interfere with my approach unless it is close to my line so other side of the hole or left/right of my line isn't an issue. 👍

You'd have loved one of my HS teammates. Was kind of an odd duck. One day he pried a circular metallic end cap off the top of a pipe in the bathroom and used that as a ball marker. Thing must have been close to 6" in diameter.

I have to say, I for one am certainly not going to let anyone live rent free in my head during a round based on the marker they choose to use. If I need them to move it, I just ask them to do so... done deal.

You shouldn’t be playing with people who care if you use a poker chip as a marker. Majority of those people think they are “better” than everyone, have to much ego and sad to say most are generally older who think anything other than how golf was played in 1950 is disrespectful. Once they die off the game will be better as it has to change with the time. Even players on LIV tour say the loud music isnt distracting.
