They better have thought up some really interesting gimmicks for this because right now it seems like even hard-core golfers like ourselves will take a hard pass.  Personally, I wouldn't care if they got Christ himself to come down from the cross to play simulator golf.

Grant them OWGR points.  That will rev up LIV Golf.

Has anyone worked out quite how it works? Is it all simulator or is it simulator until within 50 yards of the hole or something? To be honest it would be a good spectator experience to watch a pitch/chip off of some of the best players in the world from a stadium view, as opposed to the usual way of following a golf tournament in person where you have to walk a lot to get an often obscured view, or sit in a grandstand and wait for 2-3 shots every 10-15 minutes from random golfers.

My guess on the format

They will play Team Match Play of some sort for 9 holes. Then use simulator til 50 yards and in. The green that you see in the drawings/artwork will have the Putt View Technology and will be able to adjust to what the 'actual' green looks like on the screen

to some extent.

They have 5 teams right now, probably trying to get 8 teams (that would be 3 players per team.

Maybe the first 3 holes is 2 person alt shot for 1 point

second 3 holes is 2 person best ball for 1 point

final 3 holes is a singles match for 2 points

If it tied they go to some Overtime Match

Its 6 teams of 4 but only 3 play on any given week.

Well there you go, thank you

I think if its the format I suggested above, it could be entertaining and fast paced enough. You want these events to last an hour not 4. Similar to T20 Cricket lasting 3 hours instead of entire day or 5

Agreed, but I think they can probably knock out 18 on a simulator in 2 hrs.

This whole thing makes me imagine four guys playing Golden Tee on an arcade cabinet, while inside an MMA ring.

Which is kinda accurate and sounds completely ridiculous. Then you find out that eSports leagues constantly pack the Staples Center and similar venues with people watching dudes play Call of Duty. Even crazier is the millions watching those same events online. I don't get it at all, but it's a real thing and hugely popular.

Right there w/ya Dutch. I remember years ago talking to a friend and she was telling me her son spent hours online watching other ppl play Minecraft… I had a hard time wrapping my head around that.

Why do we watch people play golf? Because mostly we play it ourselves and like to see how the best do it. Similar principle to watching people play video games.

I understand the transitive argument, it's just not something I grew up with so it seems a bit weird. That said, I have watched youtube videos of people beating Super Mario Bros, Contra, and Mike Tyson's Punch Out as fast as possible. Because I grew up wasting hours on those games I have a reference point for the skill involved.

Regardless, I wasn't trying to criticize, simply suggesting that the market for the TGL may be a lot bigger and different than the typical weekend hack.

Put it this way

If you’re not streaming something and you’ve got cable on at like 9pm on a weekday , youre very likely channel surfing. At least I am. Flipping see the different talking heads, this movies, that show, you know, there’s like 15 or so channels not including movie channels you might be flipping around on.

Then, hey what’s this?

Its

Tigerrrrrrrrr! 😃 and Rory and JT and Jordan, goofing around blasting drives at a gigundo three story sim screen, people cheering, few celebs there.

Youre definitely watching!

And I don’t care what anyone says, people here like, “no interest” . Yeah sure, what ya gonna watch My Pillow commercials and Pawn Stars when Tiger on?! 🤣

Exactly. It's freaking Tuesday night. If you're a NHL or NBA fan you may have a better option and perhaps I'm only speaking about myself, but I haven't found network developed program that is appointment viewing in ages. Would I rather watch Tiger Woods play fake golf or season 57 of Big Brother? Tiger wins.

I agree, and not all golf needs to be serious, novelty has a place in the game especially when it's not competing with serious golf at all, and not trying to claim world ranking points...

Even when we've managed to find a network drama we like, it is always dvr'd.  I can't think of the last time we watched any network show live, because there are so many commercials.  We will catch a few Sunday night PBS shows live, because they are commercial free.

This golf show will be a fun, prime time, off-night live watch.  Turn it on, watch some form of golf, probably a lot of commercial breaks for random evening chores.  No different than having the MLB playoffs on in the evenings right now.

In before people start complaining about to many commercials during TGL broadcasts.

This will get old in about 2 weeks. If not sooner.  But given the amount of filler these channels need,  it will survive until the players check out.

Actually, this could end up with better ratings than many PGA Tour events. Seriously 🤣

You got the best players, it’s a short time, it’s actually fun, they will play fast, be celebrities and sports stars there, will have some insane tech.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it pulls a significant number of people who watch a PGA TOUR events, but more importantly,

lots of fans of all different ages who think a regular PGA tour event is really boring but think this is cool to watch.

Tellin ya…
