There is an interview w/ Iona Stephen and Adam Scott that recently was posted to Youtube. She asks him about what he still hopes to accomplish and he quickly responds, "a 2nd major. I've always thought of myself as a person w/ the talent to win multiple majors".  I'm paraphrasing here but that was the gist. So while a 2nd major may not mean much to fans or the media in the grand scheme of things, its really important to Adam Scott and whatever idea of legacy he has. Perhaps that is why he didn't join the rest of the older crowd at LIV? Perhaps the same is true of Justin Rose? Or perhaps what kept Justin Rose from leaving was the goal of being a Ryder Cup captain and adding that to his legacy? Beats me, I'm not their confidant or their therapist.

The refs better be as dramatic as a wwe referee

40 second shot clock? I hope Cantlay isn’t playing then as he’ll continually break it.

No but they could destroy Spieth

I would like to see how Bryson attempt to get an edge in this thing. He would definitely hack the simulator or take advantage of some glitch

I agree. BD would be hanging out with the Demo Bay Bros at PGA Tour Superstore, you know the guys who hit all day but never buy. He’d be learning all their secrets how to get 300 carry out of 150 velo on Trackman.

Says he paid “Under $100MM”

Says the appeal is for people who want to watch golf in under 2 hours and appeal to more people.

Says the goal is to definitely at least double his money,

Not seeing it unless there is an immediate interest and he bails before the crater.

One or two shots into a screen (and we just trust the sim to never do anything weird?) then putting on a fake green? These guys don't chip all that often compared to us hackers.

I'm not feeling it and my guess is that he paid WAY less than 100mm.  Where did that "less than 100m" go is my question.  It could explain Rory's enthusiasm for this likely snoozefest.

Why couldn't they do something interesting like revive Shell's "Wonderful World of Golf"?  *That* would be a winner.

You mean like Tiger vs Phil or Brooks vs Bryson? Pretty sure they tried that. Phil wasn't happy w/ his cut and Brooks looked annoyed even being there.

It was reasonably successful though and they could dial back the expectations and production/promotion for more mundane matches.

Well done. 😆

I guess we wait and see.

WWoG is ancient history to me but I do enjoy watching those things and I have no interest in a bro fest even though I'm closer to that demographic chronologically.

The matches were painful. Wasn’t shells wwog condensed and ran on tape delay? The matches have so much dead air.

The Match probably would have been better as an edited event vs live. My only point was that if it was really successful, they'd be pumping them constantly and have a lot more players jockeying to be included. Ian Poulter or Max Homa would have ran twitter polls asking fans who they should challenge. Spieth and JTs agents would have pitched friend vs friend. The reason it wasn't shoved down our throats was because there wasn't enough interest and therefore not enough money for the players to care.

I'm skeptical about TGL but will try to not be cynical until I see the actual product. It's a big world out there and not everyone shares my tastes. In other parts of the world, screen golf is every bit as big as grass golf...

To me this is more cringy than LIV.  IMO would have been better served to just polish LIV concept and repopulate it with the true top golfers.

Everyone cracked jokes at the LIV team names.  Make way for Jupiter GC and Boston Common GC.  Geographically it makes sense but doesn't roll off the tongue either.  naming a four man golf team is just a no win proposition, unless it is Range Goats.

I don't understand this position unless you're talking about a complete reimagining of LIVs team concept and general schedule. LIV today is simply weak field WGC events with an after thought team component, primarily scheduled against weak PGAT events. It was set up to steal market share from the current golf ecosystem. Their attempts to grow the game boil down to decreasing the time commitment via shotgun starts and pumping in music in a lame attempt to make it hip.

The TGL is not trying to compete with traditional golf or siphon market share from weaker tour events. They are trying to compete against the NBA, NHL, and youtube. They want the kid, that would otherwise be watching the latest Good Good video on Monday nights, to instead turn in to watch Max Homa. They want the weekend golfer and general sports fan to flip off Bulls vs Cavs on TNT and instead watch Tiger.

It may end up being a bore and a waste of time. But the last thing the world needs is more traditional golf, in the traditional season, on the traditional Thu thru Sun schedule. That market is already way oversaturated.

Funny you should mention that. My better half just gave me a gift card for screen golf. get's very cold in the North east during the winter months......

I'm a grass golf sorta guy but I will be giving the simulator a try real soon......

It's like TW's restaurant/ bar entertainment with a band establishment.

I'm reserving judgement.....🙂

You're right.  But unfortunately I do not have time right now to detail how I was thinking about it.  But for shorthand, just imagine if there was full "buy-in" from all the players and the top-level guys were playing LIV more similar to Champions League football.  If LIV was the limited field, upper-crust event, but you had to earn your way on.  And from a team standpoint there was a draft.  Say captains were the top placing guys on PGAT and DPWT and had to draft from the remaining eligible players.  I don't know or care how the owning of teams or franchises works out.

Again, I was thinking there would be significant changes made.

I don't buy that TGL is some sort of great new concept for golf.  It is still golf just a 2d version of it with the ball hit into a screen.  Unless we are cheering what amounts to trackman numbers, we are still watching a ball, hit by a player towards a target, travel through the air, and come to rest some distance from the target.  The difference is we traded the real life golf course for a digital one.  Which, I will admit, means the actual golfers are in much closer proximity to one another and can jaw at one another.  Maybe that aspect is going to be a big draw for this?
