Older pic but added a few more since then, I love single prong tools. Way better than the 2 prong/fork style tools.

Very cool but I’d be afraid I’d stab myself with one if these.

The bottom two definitely have a good tip on them that could give you a good poke. The 2 crayons have a blunt end and the middle two have a pretty dull tip to them, I've yet to stab myself with them but I've probably done worse with a tee in the past.

Ugh...I know I'm a curmudgeon...

But seriously, it's a "BALL MARK" that we are talking about here. Not a "DIVOT."

A "divot" is something you make out in the fairway or rough. A "ball mark" is something that you make on a green.

Funnily enough, it's generally the dudes who don't know the difference between a "ball mark" and a "divot" who continually suggest that a "tee works great for fixing divots on the green."

The simple fact of the matter is that tees are a very poor tool to use to fix a ball mark on a green. It causes way more damage than it repairs. I'd honestly rather you didn't even bother.

This is why they've designed specific tools for this purpose - and try in vane to get people to use them.

But whatever man, y'all keep using your tees to fix divots. More power to ya.

Guy with "ohm" profile pic cares about divot tool... LMAO.

two slender prongs far apart are the best for greens. Those seem annoyingly heavy to have in a pocket.🤮

I just like single prongs as a personal choice, find they look better too oddly.

The top 3 ones are actually aluminum so extremely light, almost forget they're in my pocket at times. The middle one is too heavy and I don't carry it much, the bottom two are hefty but not awful I like the heft doesn't bug me, but I did get 2 new ones from the same brand and they're much lighter so they'll get more carry.

All the manufacturers seem to call them "divot tools".

"All the manufacturers" are simply trying to sell product, and they generally do so by playing to the most primitive, reptilian parts of the human brain when it comes to frivolous products like golf equipment - hence the existence of "distance irons."

I don't think I'd rely upon them as an arbiter of truth on any subject outside of how to bring a product to market and get people to buy it.

Just pointing out that the OP was referring to the tool as it is typically referenced, whether it actually fixes a divot or a ball mark.  I don't know of any golfer who wouldn't know what a 'divot tool' is, but they might not know what a 'ball mark' tool is.

I use a PitchFix 2.0 - I like that it holds my ball marker and prongs fold in, so it doesn't jab my legs.

We did a course test with the ground crew here at my club using this tool vs all the other suggested tools.  Not only did it work simply for Bent greens, we found it healed in 2-3 days vs 5-7 which makes a massive difference on a course that gets 280-300 golfers a day.  I've gone around to other courses with Bermuda greens and found similar results. Nothing irks me more than long time golfers who don't know how to fix pitch marks, or just don't bother at all.

It's actually a semi hobby of mine to make my own. I've made them from metal, wood and carbon fiber. I really liked one I made out of ipe (a super hard and durable wood) but I lost it. Same happened to the carbon fiber tool I made and I concluded they were both too light and I didn't notice as they fell out of my pocket when grabbing a tee from the same pocket. My metal tools don't do that as they tend to settle lower in the pocket due to their weight.

I got one of these when I played Troon North.  It works well and is small and lightweight. And it was free. The horned lizard is a removable ball marker. Pic stolen from the internet.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a scotty cameron but I tend to use an ebay cheapo flick out tool more with a magnet to hold a ball marker, which is an acid house smiley ball marker.
