no finish is a backdoor in my opinion i was just using the term to make light of his finish if he doesnt win.

you must be a betting person, because Ive heard the term backdoor cover as it pertains to a team that has a meaningless score late in the game which does not change the outcome but does allow them to cover the betting spread

Backdoor in gambling parlance refers to an outcome that requires two statistically unlikely things to occur in sequence to accomplish the event. The easiest example is in poker where the term is used extensively to describe bad beats, as in backdoor flush and backdoor straight (less common).

You hold two suited cards. The flop in a shared board game comes with one of your suit. A backdoor flush is when the turn and river both come runner runner, and the flush hits.

So hovland would have to have two improbably good rounds in a row (versus the field) to "backdoor" (verb) a finish.

I was being nice, I lived in Las Vegas for twenty five years and have seen my share of poker tables and sportsbooks, I knew exactly what he was referring to as a backdoor finish
