When it comes down to Sunday final groups, have 2-3 people following that group.  One at the tee box, one in the landing zone, then hustle the tee box person down to the green.  Do the shot calling with actual eyes on the balls, ears on the caddies etc.  The reality is on Sunday back 9, the TV coverage is already incredibly focused on about 8-10 players, 4-5 groups.  The one person in the booth can still call a replay of a chip-in eagle by a guy in 36th.  But get the real shot-callers on the ground, with the players making the shots.

Agree. Nabilo would be one of the best choices. It's time they recognize him and give him a lead role. I still miss his back and forth with Brandel Chamblee. I think he left cause he was sick of him. He is way better than David. David is a nice guy, but not as clear and concise. He also doesn't have as much insight as Nabilo or can't express himself as well.

Details and whys are irrelevant. It's awesome news. I stopped watching non-majors when Azinger was hired. I can't think of one I looked at.

 

How can you hire Paul Azinger for that role? I was so stunned I thought it was a joke. This wasn't a dozen years earlier, immediate post ABC, where you might go along with the crowded conventional wisdom, like the offensive coordinator of the moment. There was evidence galore during those dozen years. Nothing good was going to happen.

 

And this was supposed to be bold sharp NBC led by Tommy Roy. Gems everywhere yet they dump it into the bunker with Paul Azinger. 

 

I wanted to bet on that hat stuff with Cantlay. It was already a handout even before bewildered Azinger dove in the wrong way.

The guys who do the European Tour are fun to listen to.  They don't talk about the golf all the time; sometimes they just tell a story or two.  There isn't a famous golfer to do insights.  It's just two guys who are knowledgeable about the game, providing some names, and occasionally, distances.  Sometimes they can be irreverent, which is a good thing.

 

So if golf television in the US got rid of the "knowledgeable former great player," who could do a reasonable job of providing some facts and some fun?  Bones?  Brandel is too opinionated and talks to hear himself talk - no good.

 

I don't think that we need British or Australian accents, either.

I guess NBC is not going to use Byrum as lead analyst after all. McGinley is going to be the lead color analyst for the Hero and according to the article, could land the full-time job depending on how he does.
