Pure Grips out of business!

That's a big, big disappointment.  Those were the only grips that I've used for 5-6 years.  Loved the ability to quickly swap and play immediately.

Gone for good or a restructuring?

From what I've read here and other places, as of right now the plan is to shut down for good. But that doesn't mean some big company won't come in and make an offer they can't refuse and swoop them up. Lamkin? Golf Pride? Who knows.

In the meantime check out Star Grip - made of a very similar material, but IMHO a little better durability, and I actually like the Star Sidewinder better than the Pure Pro. The jumbo wrap is also really nice.

I'll have to take a look.  Thankfully I just regripped with Pure Pro during their last sale.

Their prices aren't terrible either!

That's a bummer. I used them for a few years prior to switching to Best Grips. Tough to see companies fold. Hope the workers are able to find something new.

wasn't Pure some offshoot of Star in the first place? Former Star employee or something.

Yep. The story is that two guys who worked at Star paired up with an investor to start Pure, using similar grip designs, material suppliers, and manufacturing process. From what I've heard through the grapevine, since day one Pure was burning money faster than they could make it, and it just got to the point where enough was enough. Seems like slow & steady (Star Grip) wins the race after all!

Pure has much better grips than Star. All star has is one tour velvet look alike and the rest are old looking wrap grips.

I think they have better options but if we are comparing Star grip to Pures standard grip, Star I think feels better and lasts longer.  Always thought Pure was a touch too squishy

They're kind of close, but I preferred the feel of Pure more. Will have to stock up, but yeah, the successor for me would probably be Star.

Said starters of Pure also availed themselves of the Star customer list without permission.  The whole thing was a bit less than above board.

For anyone who likes installing PURE grips with the air compressor as much as I do, I just wanted to let everyone know that any grip can be installed with an air compressor with the exception of some putter grips. Even if you want to use double sided tape you can do it without mineral spirits and it will adhere. I use PURE on all my clubs except my metal woods and I still install all my metal wood grips with an air compressor.

Good gravy, that's a long time to be burning money.  They were around for 14-15 years.

Missed out on any good deals on the Pro but did get a set of the combos and the air gun/install tool. 90 bucks shipped for everything is tough to beat. Will be a little sad if I ultimately love the grips and can't buy them anymore but should be good for a couple seasons at least.

Star is actually doing 13 grips + gun for a little over $100, so not much more. The grips are full price but when you spend $100 (which is 13 grips) you get the gun for free.

I bought their grips 18 months ago, first time using this company.  Not sure which model I have but they remind of GolfPride Tour velvets.  I've played approximately 450 days (mostly 18 hole rounds) with grips I cannot detect any wear on my most used clubs.  I can't believe they've lasted this long, guess I'm going stockpile a bunch of them, best prices around 7 bucks a grip.

One of the biggest draws. I just replaced my Mizuno MP15 irons with Pure DTX Grips. That was back in 2017. They still feel like new. Crazy good.

Is everyone paying shipping? it says free shipping eligible, but then shows shipping cost in checkout. Is this everyone else's experience?

I got free S/H on my 13-grip order after 50% off - in checkout.

Also I already got my tracking number which was much faster than their 44% off sale last month.

Weird - it is showing me $15 to ship UPS Ground and isn't changing when I go to "pay now". Wonder if they changed it now.

I just added 13 more to my cart and went to checkout and it does in fact add shipping ($13.50 for me)

I guess free s/h is over for the blowout sale.

Placed my Blowout Sale order at around 11am yesterday Mon July 31, and they charged shipping.  Love these Pure grips.

So I think someone there realized that they could/should start charging shipping for a close-the-doors sale, since so many of the other grips are all sold out already.

Thx for all the info, everyone, this forum is great source of info.  Without you guys, I would not have known of some of the backstory, nor would I have known the relationship between Pure and Star Grips.   Good to know that I can go to Star Grips now should I ever run through my two boxes of 28 Pure Midsize Wrap black grips that I have bought on sale.....  (yes, my wife says "why do you need so many sets of Hogan golf clubs, do you play them all?"  I say "yes, I do" (and I really do!).   She rolls her eyes :-)
