Dry wicking sleeves

Recommended Posts

Never thought of wearing these but...

What are good dry wicking sleeves for summer play to keep sweat from rolling down the arms into your hands?

Ideally something super absorbent but cool. Don't need uv protection,  that would just be a plus. Biggest thing is keeping the sweat from running into my hands.

Forearm only is ok and maybe preferred...

I wear Sparms shoulder wraps EVERY time I play or go to the range.  SPF 50+, they get cooler when they get wet, and sweat doesn’t roll down onto my hands.  The advantage of the wrap is that you don’t have to choose between sleeves that are either extra tight vs ones that you continually have to pull up.

They are pricy, at least compared to the options you can find on Amazon.  But most really good stuff IS pricy, and Sparms are top of the line.

I've purchased several pairs of Armoray sleeves off Amazon. I've been pretty pleased with this brand. They don't slip at all.  Definitely wick sweat and are actually quite comfortable. They are my go to now and save me from applying sun block to my arms every time I play. You can get 4 pair for around $20.

I've used some cheap ones off of amazon that come in 4-packs for several years now.  They are cooler and more comfortable than the Nike brand in my experience.  The white ones will get dirty and stained from sweat and sunblock but they are cheap enough to replace after a few dozen rounds each.  I highly recommend sun sleeves, they are comfortable and feel much cooler when they are wet plus you can use them to sop the sweat off your head and face!

I started wearing them this summer and agree with everything. But the most important thing, is that it helps with my prevention of skin cancer—especially since I now have stuff they are keeping an eye on.

What size Sparms did you get? just your usual shirt size?

Sunscreen seems to make me sweat even more, which is why I bought a 3-pack of the cheap sleeves on Amazon. Just wanted to try them out and absolutely love them. I wish I had bought them earlier. No more wiping sweat out of my eyes only to get sunscreen in them. I was concerned that the sleeves would be hot, but they’re just the opposite.  And I guess that whatever sweat they wick out must just dry off in the sun because the sleeves are mostly dry when I take them off - slightly damp at the worst.

I paid around $20 for a 3-pack and got white. I figured if they got discolored, I’d just buy more, but no stains so far and I’ve worn each pair about 5-6 times.

I wear the SportsTrail cooling arm sleeves from Amazon in the summer months.  Never had an issue with them slipping or feeling overly tight. I highly recommend.

Sparms for me. I just use the sleeves not the shawl but for all the reasons mentioned above, I love them. Love that my hands stay dry and don’t have to swap gloves so often.  That’s a bonus.

i had a pair of these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073TW7CR1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

in my bag for over a year and this thread inspired me to wear them yesterday when it was sunny and 97 and I have to say that everyone here is correct.  My arms were much cooler.  Not having to wipe the sweat off them was great.  Riding in the cart after they wicked some sweat helped me stay cooler.  and they were very comfortable.  They also claim to be UPF 50

I’m going to give a loose fishing hoodie a try. Nice to have a hood when waiting under the sun.

hate sunscreen esp reapplying mid round.

my last few rounds have been in a fishing hoodie/UV shirt. you don't have to worry about sun screen and it does a good job of wicking and keeping you cool.

Any brand you recommend?

the PFG line from columbia is solid and can be found pretty cheap at their outlets or like a marshalls/TJ Maxx. Patagonia capilene shirts are great as well.

I just got a few Tasc carrollton long sleeves that seem nice, but they're bamboo based, so not fully poly wicking.

Ah thanks. I tried a baleaf one from amazon but it wasnt thin enough. Just got an outdoor research echo and it seems to be the thinnest of all other sun shirts...

My club requires polo shirts so I have to wear whatever it is over a polo and not be too hot.

That's a bummer, i usually play public courses, and throw a neck gaiter on to make it seem like i might have a collar if anyone gets too nosy.

from what i've read, the outdoor research gear is pretty good quality. I'd look at your local REI for options as well.

I have acute sun allergy so have been a long time sun sleeve user during golf and road cycling.

Best I have come across are the Peal Izumi & Outdoor Research sun sleeves. They have excellent stretch, fit & moisture wicking. Added bonus, on really hot days, a few splashes of cold water on them really cools me down (especially the inner part of the wrist area)

I have never considered these for cooling, just sun protection, but everyone is kinda selling me on the idea.  Might grab a few pairs to try them out.  Like someone said earlier, sunblock makes my face sweat something fierce, so worst case is I can just use my arms now to wipe the sweat from my face, lol.

As I said a few posts up, i let them sit in my bag for over a year and finally tried them the other day.
Can’t say anything bad about them. My arms were much cooler and they wick sweat great

Not worst case at all. This time of year I probably wipe my face with my sun sleeves at least a dozen times a round. Heck there was a round the other day I probably did it a dozen times on the front nine.

Played with a buddy today who typically has his Nike # ones. I used to have a pair and hated them because they were more like compression sleeves then cooling sleeves. He forgot his in the washer and I had an extra pair of my Sparms with me and let him use them. He loves them and is now ordering a pair. They never fell down on him and were much more comfortable than Nike #. I showed him the trick of sprinkling a few splashes of water on them during the round and he was amazed how much better it feels. It was 103 here today so quite draining after 18 holes .

I have dozens of arm sleeves. Have been wearing them for decades as a triathlete.  While the cheap ones from Amazon are good.  You get what you pay for.  My Desoto cooling sleeves are by far the best I've ever had.  Yes, they are expensive but I've had them for near 20 years.  They still are in very good shape, stay up, and work the best of any I've ever had.

Played my first round yesterday with SParms in 102-105 heat and was pleased with the result. Hands are much less sweaty which helps minimize the deterioration of my glove.

The feel was a bit warm at first, but they do breath well and as others have mentioned, did cool off once they were wet.  I think they are worth it.

Anyone have any idea how long they will last?

I have 3 pair of the sparms and just grab a set each time I play so not exactly sure how long one pair will last but I am on year 3 wearing them and I play about 40 rounds a year wearing them.  Anything over 80° i usually wear them.
