Jesus I want zero part of that - even at the same speed as you.

Spin was fine from Michael Newton Golf in his review above with these results...

I like this driver a lot. But it is sooo low spin. lol. Like the lowest I have ever hit.

it took a good amount t of work for me to keep spin on the ball and get this airborn. But when you do it goes a long way.

were you hitting this 8deg driver off the deck?  looks like a lot of artificial turf burn for a driver sir :classic_tongue:

Yeah I’m an outlier when it comes to the low

spin game.   I chased it for 2 years and learned my lesson.

Just picked up a 8 degree (on the right) to see what the hype is all about. Surprisingly, the 8 degree has a pointy back at address and not sure I’m a fan of that. Had pretty good results with the 9 degree last weekend and looking forward to see how the 8 degree performs this weekend.

wont lie i hit this last night in 9* and was crushing it. right now its top of the list for 2024 contenders to be in the bag. i was hitting it with a kai'li white 70x and hitting it similarly to quigs. avg 171bs and was getting a touch more spin than he was at about 2700-2800. #intrigued

Wow - that comparison makes the 9* much more pleasing to look at IMO. Looks much more comparable to my current gamer, the LTD Pro.

Super excited to compare but my back has been giving me issues the past few days. Might have to wait another week to get a comparison in the bay.

The 9* does have a more classic look which I'm used to as well but there's got to be a reason the 8* is a little more pointy towards the back. Quig was right, the 8* is super low spin and the only way I could make it work was put the heaviest weight to the back as someone pointed out earlier. Now it seems right inline with the 9* and just calls for some comparison at the course.

I just got fit for the darkspeed LS and am loving it. I was playing a paradym triple diamond and it was great when hit well but if i got anywhere close to the toe I was 30 yards left of target with sub 1000 spin. I really need an anti left, low launch, low spin driver and this one just checks all the boxes. I ended up with the 10.5 degree head turned down to 9 to open up the face with the heavy weight in the toe section. Distance is about the same as the triple diamond but MUCH MUCH more consistent. When I catch a high toe its 5 yards left of line with 1800ish spin instead of 30 yards left falling out of the sky.

There was some good info in here, particularly the CG charts. Definitely some overlap between the LS with the heavy weight back and the X with the heavy weight forward.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tried out the darkspeed LS 8° and I can’t say how impressed I was. Have never tried cobra anything before. Have always played Titleist drivers and while I think the sound and looks of the Tsr3 is a tad better the performance for me with the cobra just had me smiling. For me the big difference was just being able to swing away without much technique worry and just not getting any bad numbers. What felt like a bad miss to the right would only kick up in spin to 2500. The Qi10 and the AI smoke on same swing were both 33-3500 spin which has always been my biggest issue.  The tsr3 was a close 2nd but I may have been converted. Will demo again just to make sure but either way Cobra just gained a new fan.

Hit the X and LS today 9* with the big weight in the back of the LS, weight forward on the X. Got much better results spin wise out of the LS and more ball speed. Was using the black HZRDUS shaft. I think with the weight in the back of the LS it’s close to my G430 LST forgiveness wise. If I’m reading that chart right DS LS weight back is slightly more forgiving than X front?

You're reading it right. The CG is about the same front to back and left to right between the DS LS 9* with the heavy weight back and the DS X 9* with the heavy weight front, but the CG is 2 mm lower in the X. DS X 9* weight forward has a MOI of 4500 and LS 9* weight back is 4700. The only other variable is the aero, which will be better in the LS. Should see slightly higher club head and ball speed in the LS.

this backs up what I was seeing on the Quad. I liked the feeling of the LS better too, just able to get it around better.

Not much to go by but he has the Darkspeed as #1....all drivers reviewed are the LS models except the Ping 10k.

When and hit all 3 models.  Thought the X would fit me best and really didn't even want to hit the LS because my swing speed ranges from 94-98.  X felt good and the my fitter talked me into hitting the LS 10.5.  After a few swings he turned it up to 11, and after a few more swings he put the 12 gram weight on toe (a hook is my miss).  Ironically I hit the first ball right but had good numbers.  After settling in my ball speed got to 148 (usually in low 140's) and swing speed was consistently at 98.  I ordered the LS - the numbers don't lie.  I am only posting this because a lot of a reviews state only for fast swing speeds - which is probably true but not in my case.  The LS was the clear winner
