To me, Greyson makes much more sense.  You would also think, if there is an equity play involved with anyone, that TW wouldn't have let Charlie go any where other than where he would be getting equity.

I do think it could be either but I think odds are in favor of Greyson.  Shouldn't have to wait too much longer to find out.

Tons of hard goods companies want to show growth and they do so in apparel all the time. Look at Wilson expanding the last few years. Callaway adding Travis. TM has been doing collabs and for them to not be in the apparel game is wild. 

 

You can go to a site like TGW and see Callaway and even "Shark" Greg Norman apparel. No reason TM doesn't have their own line or a connection to a TW brand.

I think you've been spot on in this thread.  

To me, one of reasons Greyson would have appeal to Tiger is that they do a lot of things really well.  Some classic styling, some forward thinking designs, always high quality.  That's a company that can go a lot of places.  Charlie Schaefer knows what he's doing.

I don't disagree that TM is going to (and should have) an apparel line.  They have been posting job openings for their "new apparel division".  It's coming.

I was disagreeing with whether that would be a needle moving event for Wall Street as you mentioned before.  I just don't think it would or, if it did, it would take awhile for them to prove they can garner significant enough market share.  It's a much bigger ship to move, of course, but the market didn't react at all to the news of TW leaving Nike.  The golf apparel space is more crowded than any other sport I can think of and is especially attractive for smaller, boutique brands.   IMO Taylormade's spot within the apparel game right now (if they do their own and don't just buy another player) would probably be like a slightly lower end Footjoy.

This is definitely a fair point.  It's not just Justin Thomas that has equity, plenty of other investors as well.  Remember, the company was co-founded by both Charlie Schaefer and Morgan Hoffman.  I believe Justin Timberlake is an investor and I assume that Luke Donald is too, he's been around since early on.

Other than quarter zips, what is really missing?  Their polos are nice, shorts and pants perform well … and their hats are even decent.

I am wondering if the prototype shoes he was testing at the Hero were really from Nike as we all assumed, or if it was a shoe from one of the other brands mentioned above. They have actually a bit of a Sketcher look. But probably not…

Their golf shorts are terrible, way too long and baggy for me.  Some of their other shorts are ok but they are not really part of their “golf” line per se.  I own several of their polo style shirts but they are not very durable (pilling already).
