Smart move to drop the "soft" on their tour balls. There is nothing soft on a chrome soft X with a compression ~96.

I've already tested (putting & chipping) the new chrome tour x back in Dec. It's definitely has a reduced clicky sounds and the feel is softer than the chrome soft X of 2023. I don't have the details on the change in outer layer materials.

That is funny to hear. Cause I tested the '24 TP5x proto and I noticed more click to it, especially half wedges, than the '21 TP5x. The TP5x ball needed to get firmer imo. I guess chrome soft x needed to get softer. 🤷‍♂️

Chrome Tour X was soft like Z Star Diamond or Pro V1 and Chrome Tour firm firm!  Total flip of the script from what I was expecting.  Both great balls with very different feel

We only had the Chrome Tour X mid Dec for testing. I haven't seen the Chrome Tour yet.
I agree with the feel & sounds comparison to the Srixon's Z Star Diamond.

Polymer engineering is evolving & engineering direction changes off of Tour feed back. Maybe both (Callaway & TM) needed to go in opposite directions from their 2023 models. My thinking is maybe the goal was to get closer to the characteristics of the ProV1 but retaining their own tech?

So they are going opposite from everyone else by making their firm spinier ball the tour and their softer lower spinier ball the tour x? Just make it more confusing for the consumer. Their site has identical description on both balls too. 🤦‍♂️

In articles written the Tour is actually softer and @Avidswampthing66 even stated the compression is lower in the tour but his feel while hitting it was different than what Callaway is stating.

 

The Tour is supposed to be their direct Pro V1 competition which they lacked in their line-up before this iteration.

Yeah exactly and the only thing I can think is, even though CTX has a higher compression rating, the new cover must be slightly softer than CT.  The compression is pretty darn close with these balls.  Curious of your opinions when you get to test them out.

You make a firm ball "feel" softer with a soft polymer cover but that only applies to shots that are half speed feely ones that are not being compressed by the core. 

 

Once you get to forces to compress the core then I would expect to feel that compression feedback. Compression of a ball is a simple metric and linear as well. A firm ball is going to be firm and a soft one soft. I really dont see a benefit, even if were magically true, having a firm ball feel soft imo. 

 

Lets see what the compression ratings really are because feel obviously can be subjective.

I think Chrome Tour is very similar.  Not quite as firm, but def not "soft"
