Looking for my first spikeless shoes. Waterproof and lightweight. Recommendations??

Recommended Posts

I've always worn spikes. I'm gonna try going spikeless this year. Need to be waterproof and I'm looking for lightweight. I play a lot (100+ rounds a year) so I'm open to trying a couple different pairs. When I go to the range I practice barefoot. I've always been a barefoot guy ever since I was a kid. Definitely prefer playing barefoot, so any lightweight recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Ecco Biom. I have five pair and prefer them over my Puma, FJ and Adidas shoes.

It is very tough to beat Ecco; you can take them out of the box and walk 18 holes Day One.  My personal preference now is the ASICS Gel Kayano because I walk 3 or 4 times a week, and they’re very waterproof.  If you  walk, I think Ecco, True, or one of the more “athletic” models (ASICS, NB, etc) would be good choices.

The Kayano was the other shoe I was looking at, besides the Ecco. Maybe I'll grab a pair of those, too.

Depending on your size, there are some great closeout deals out there on Kayanos now, with new models coming out this spring.  Ecco and ASICS are at least somewhat similar; both have a relatively wide toe box and are narrower at the heel.

Definitely scouring the close outs. I'm gonna grab a pair of Kayano. Ecco is running a buy 2 get 50% sale. I bought two pairs of Biom Hybrid Original for 65 bucks a pair.

There are a ton of great deals on shoes out there these days. Top of the line models from nearly every manufacturer going for $149.

As such, I feel like it's kind of like arguing who makes the best iron these days.

There are too many good options to say.

I walk in Adidas CodeChaos 22s all the time, I haven't worn Eccos in several years but loved them when I had them. Neither of them is close to a barefoot feel though. Also, I play in the desert SW so I cannot speak to the quality of waterproofing.

I buy Adidas because I know I can order my size and the shoe will fit like it was custom made for me, if you have a wider foot their BOA offerings seems to run a little wider.

Agree on the codechaos.  Extremely lightweight, waterproof, and you can't beat adidas boost when it comes to comfort.  If there is a negative I do feel they don't breathe the best.

Since the OP mentions practicing barefoot, True Linkswear would be the best option as they are the closest to the ground (own a few pair myself) - I much prefer the OG styles for the wider foot.  I also wear many Eccos and would recommend them first for anyone getting away from spikes.   Comfort and longevity are second to none.

I grew up barefoot. Lol. I go barefoot whenever I can. I looked at True but they're all ugly😂 Might still grab a pair though, as they do look very low profile.
