Srixon Black Chrome Irons

They will definitely wear. But I’m of the opinion they might look ok when worn. After some range time and one 9 hole round, mine give me the impression that they’ll be similar to the face wear you might see on a Titleist fairway or hybrid for example. You know the kind, where the bottom 1/4” is kind of worn due to grass interaction, plus ball contact wherever it might be for you.

I’ll be following this thread for sure.

I just picked up a set of OG ZX5 last month, or else I would’ve pulled the trigger on the black ZX5 MK II ‘s for sure!

From the wear pics that @Arlin964 posted after only 1 range session though, I’m definitely concerned about how the black finish will wear over time.

Very curious to see how they will look after a couple of weeks/months of use.

I’ve seen used sets of black Irons from TaylorMade, PING, Sub 70, and Titleist around, and they look absolutely terrible unfortunately.

Played around 5 rounds and several range sessions with the black chrome irons.  Finish is holding up imo.  However, I don't mind a worn in look.  They are so pretty to look at and the performance is great.

I've played 5 rounds and a few extra holes here and there and they hold up much better than the taylormade and titleist black finish. Obviously, much different. But one shot out of the sand or in a native area with those finishes and they were immediately scuffed. I have no noticeable difference in the black chrome finish 5 rounds in vs brand new.

It isn't a apples to apples comparison with those other brands, as these aren't "black"  like those. I love them, but to me they are gunmetal-ish. Great unique look that seems to be holding up

They remind me of the old Cleveland irons finish that was referred to as gunmetal IIRC. TA-3/TA-5 era. This is the same company so there's a chance it's the same finish.

Can we get some pictures of how they’re wearing please?

I’d consider them if they wear gracefully.

Obviously no irons are going to stay looking new long-term. It’s just a question of how quickly they’ll look beaten up compared to regular chrome irons.

Nothing more to consider unfortunately.  They are no longer available.  My fitter said the Srixon rep told him they only made 500 sets.

Received a package today!  All of these are ZX5 mk II.  They truly are a black chrome.  Chrome with a darker hue, not really a black like some other OEM dark irons.  I should be able to get a range session in within the week so can show what the wear looks like afterward.  Pictured are 6i-PW.  I got the 4 and 5 but left them in the wrapper for now.  I could see myself using the 5, but I have a U505 4u that probably won't give up it's slot.

EDIT: they are all 2* weak so there will appear less offset than normal. Reduced offset was not the sole purpose, it was target lofts and spin addition.

Ordered them via Discount Dans. I had them bent weak mostly for the loft specs as opposed to the offset preference. At standard lofts they just travel a little too far for my preferred gapping.

Can you notice the difference in offset at address?  Does that add bounce as well and does it change trajectory? I hit the ball way too low

Bent two degrees I’d say yes you could probably notice the difference. Two weak there is hardly any offset. But you’d probably need them side by side to really tell.

It does add bounce, but that normally doesn’t hurt me. With V soles, most would want to test it bent before deciding on it. BUT srixon irons are soft and easy to bend back if you need. Yes, trajectory/launch/peak height could change and go higher. For me, that’s a good thing. All things considered, bending weak does not hurt my preferences or needs.
