Most overrated and underrated putter brands

Overrated:  Scotty Cameron (looks like he is the runaway winner here)

 

Underrated: Tad Moore over the years.  The early carbon/milled Maxflis were and are incredible putters and most of his work since has been really nice too.

Overrated: Most Scotties, I think the Mizuno OMOI (or whatever) are overrated, too.  Most Benny putters.

Underrated: Sub70, Cleveland, SeeMore

The early ones are good putters. I own several, and they are undoubtedly quality bits of kit. The whole headcover nonsense, stamping craze and silly little cognoscenti touches that supposedly quadruple the value though? I'm out.

 

Underrated: old Ping putters. 'They're not GSS,' 'they don't feel as good with the new balls,' 'there's no face milling,' 'they're not 350 gram headweights...'

 

Watch Seve, Ollie or whomever putting the lights out with an Anser, a Zing or a Pal back in the day. If you can't shoot 65 around Royal Lytham or beat Jack Nicklaus around Pebble Beach, it's you, not the old putter.

I played around with this Odyssey putter for 30 minutes today and every putt felt so stable. I just wouldn’t game it cause it’s ugly to me

Overrated: any putter whose value goes down in time (nearly all brands and models)

Underrated: any putter whose value goes up in time, or at least stays steady

Yes i agree they’ve been getting plenty of looks. But when you ask someone to name a putter brand as of a few years ago they’d say Scotty or odyssey(my opinion). Think ping has mastered their advertising and their product backs that up

Overrated - Scotty (and I do hate to admit this as I sit on a collection of them 🤪), but I still love the brand to death. I am a ♟️ 

 

Underrated - Sacks Parente and L.A.B. (though with all the recent hype, not sure if this could be classified as underrated).
 

I have the Series 66, and if you get an opportunity to try a Sacks, do yourself a favor and test it out. I’m making ridiculous putts, you have to just try it for yourself. Ridiculous….

 

I have a Lab Mezz 1 that has gotten no love since getting my hands on the Sacks. Loved the LAB, but hard to go back after putting the way I’ve been.

Like has been mentioned before, it's hard for me to separate an overrated/underrated brand and its price tag. If I had to leave out price, to me, a milled blade putter is overrated. Technology is underrated (if it actually works). Lab certainly seems to be killing it with their putter lines.

Rife has to be the most underrated.  They are great putters, I have yet to find something to knock my Barbados out of the bag since 2014.  Soft, put a great roll on the ball, never any skippers.

Overrated - ping. Most ping putters i just do not like and dont feel that great to me.

 

Underrated - bettinardi, evnroll, mizuno, zebra believe it or not.

Without question the most underrated putter brand is PXG.  I think putters is what they do best, but I realize most have no experience with them and putters are too expensive in general to just buy and try anymore...

Sub70 needs to be on this underrated list as well. Quality milled putters for $200 is hard to beat, especially with free customization, free weight kit, free shipping, no tax etc

 

Overrated is obvious - Scotty by far #1, especially the tour putters

For guys saying that LAB is overrated...is that because of cost or performance? This is a legit question, I have one that I really like but I also didn't pay retail for it. Just curious about other's experiences and why you'd say it's overrated.

Cost isn’t really a factor for me. I think they are ugly, gimmicky and feel awkward.

 

But if they worked for me, I would use them.

Best putter I've ever owned. Was in the bag for years before my clubs were stolen. Have never settled into a putter in the the same way since.

the older Ping definitely are still great putter to game, but newer Ping putter especially PLD are asking for way too much money on top of that are all Made in Vietnam, nothing against products that made over seas but when you command for that amount for a putter, people expect to be made in the States.
