any tips for a May trip would be appreciated..

fly in thursday at lunch time so looking for something decently close to the airport I suppose (staying in scottsdale)

Thur:????....maybe Phoenician? Legends? Raven?

Fri: 36 at we ko pa

Sat: quintero? ak chin southern dunes? eagle mountain? troon north?

looking to keep rounds around the $150 price range or lower. We are traveling May 20th weekend which is the date of the NCAA championships so I am assuming grayhawk will be closed.

Those are all good choices...However, the date you are coming is right about the start of aeration on the golf courses. So you will need to call each on individually and ask when they plan to aerate and then base your schedule on that - assuming you care.  I have not seen very many dates published yet....so like I said, you will need to call.

I would not do Phoenician.  Legends? - no course named just that and there are multiple with that in the name.  So if it is Legend Trail, that is good, the others not so much.

Well if you are going to the side of town, you should play Verrado Victory (the new course - because I assume you have not played it since you refer to Raven at Verrado which is years ago) or Estrella Mountain.  Both will be in an acceptable price range and both will be WAYYY better than Wigwam or Dove Valley.

Plus we now have Sterling Grove - which I would play, over either as well.

Also paying $200 for Boulders after 2pm would make me want to vomit.

Boulders always looks so nice on the "web" is it really not worth it? other suggestions?

TPC in my eyes is not worth it...neither course.

Boulders is fine if you can get on for under $150. $200? I'd pass.

Lol. You guys are brutal. No, LS is not a better choice than Boulders.

I thought it was a decent layout, but not at $175. More like $75.

Traveling 1000 miles $150 vs $200 seems minimal but I do understand your thoughts.

Understood. It's just that there are so many many better courses around for $200 or less that I would play before Boulders. Now, take $50+ off and I would likely play them again.

That said, if I came into town and couldn't get a tee time at the other courses I'd definitely pay the $200.

You've hit the best of the bunch. As noted earlier, you should check out Verrado Victory. Also, Wickenburg Ranch is worth the trip. Add Los Caballeros while you're out there. Great 36 if you can fit both into a single day.

Did I see Grayhawk on the list? Both are worthy of a round, but certainly pricey.

Browsing GolfNow for a last minute round for this Friday. Mountain Shadows is $106! Prices have gotten insane this winter. Oy.

Winter is pricey but spring the rates increase even more. Spring training, even though there are not as many fans/visitors this year, it's clear the courses are continuing to charge as if the influx of visitors are still here.

I don't think it is just visitors though.  I read something from either the AGA or the USGA that said rounds were up in Arizona to record highs at all types of facilities on average.  More than the early 2000s rush even.  I'll try to find that statement and link it.  We've seen it at my club for sure.

Of course, I think we’ve all felt the effects of the increase of golfers over the last year due to Covid.

Funny when I was out last March and into begining of April the course were dead I pulled into Wekopa at 730 like 5 cars in parking lot played 36 in like 6 1/2 hours including lunch.

Massachusetts closed golf courses March, April and beginning of May when they did allow them to open no carts had to space tee times 15 minutes apart it was rough getting a tee time

Finalizing my golf details for my upcoming trip next month.

Monday: Quintero

Wednesday: Wekopa Sagura

Friday: Eagle Mountain **EDIT Southern Dunes**

Only one I am not sold on is Eagle Mountain. Any other options? Not trying to break the bank and would like to play a different facility(or would play Wekopa). Southern Dunes and Wickenberg Ranch are a little too far of a drive.

EDIT: Just decided to do Southern Dunes instead of Eagle Mountain.

why not do Phoneician? Whats its knock?

Trying to decide between Phoenician, Camelback, and TPC Champions course, or Legacy Golf Club for our Thursday afternoon round after we fly in. Trying to keep distance to our house and airport somewhat close since our flight into town lands at 11:30.

Any other recs would be great. Looking for best bang for the buck, and hoping to keep cost of the round under $100. Our trip is May 20th FWIW

The Phoenician may be one of the most overpriced and terribly designed courses in the valley. Unless there is some sort of great last minute “deal time” it’s just not worth it.

Legacy is a good choice for an arrival-day round. Then you can crush a Double-Double at the In n Out a couple of miles east of the course after your round.

It’s on the other side of the city but there’s a new Nicklaus course called Sterling Grove that has very fair rates. 110-115ish. Intended to be a private club but taking public tee times until then. I haven’t played it yet but people on here have discussed it. Not sure how the rates will be in May.

Going to Scottsdale for my bachelor party during Masters week. So far we have booked:

Tuesday: Arrival and golf at Sterling Grove

Wednesday: Southern Dunes

Thursday: Quintero

Friday: Verrado Founders & Victory

Saturday: TBD deciding between Dove Valley, McCormick Ranch Pines, and Legacy any suggestions? We are looking for a twilight round so we can watch the masters during the day and golf in the afternoon. Hoping to keep last round under $100.
