Traveling to Phoenix.....Some course info for you

Alright finally booked to come out this year. 4/26-4/30. Last time out play saguaro, southern dunes and Quintero. Would like to play the other courses there. If I could I’d do 36 2 of the days. What should make the list? Probably staying in Scottsdale somewhere but don’t mind driving. Cost not worried about so much. Thanks!

For 36 hole days this would be my list:

tier 1

Grayhawk Raptor & Talon;  Verrado Founders and Victory;  Wickenburg Ranch & Los Caballeros (long drive);

Tier 2

Eagle Mountain & Sunridge Canyon; Boulders & Legend Trail;  Sterling Grove & Vistancia or Copper Canyon;  TPC Champions and Stadium

tier 3 - Good courses but are very much similar

Whirlwind both courses; Wildfire both courses

tier 4

Talking stick both courses

Other - Mix of good and not so good

Longbow (good) & Las Sendas (not so good);  Raven & Legacy or Aguila;  Dinosaur Mountain both courses

Coming to Scottsdale / Phoenix Feb 4/5/6 for a golf trip – 8ppl total.

Anyone know a good driver with a van who can provide transportation to/from the golf course to our house?

Tough time to need that - it will be busy.  Depends on how much you want to spend?  Desert Rose and Blasian are the best imo; but on the pricier side.   Copper Star and Blue Star should be less but are good too.

If you are just looking for a random person - not sure, haven't even heard of someone random doing that.

We use Turo. MUCH cheaper than renting a car from the traditional Enterprise, Hertz, Alamo, etc. right now. They had a sprinter van last time I looked, but we ended up booking two trucks for fairly cheap. If you select "delivery" you can set the airport you're flying into, but it does weed some of the vehicles that don't deliver out. Otherwise, it's there waiting for you when you land. Drop off in the parking lot and they pick up. Easy as it gets.

Depending on where you are in Scottsdale, you may want to look at some resorts associated with courses for your stay.  The golf isnt as good, but the convenience is nice (Talking Stick, Camelback ambiente, and a few other decent courses fit the bill).  If you just want the best golf within a reasonable distance then Wekopa (Saguaro over Cholla), Grayhawk(Raptor over talon), and Troon North (Pinnacle over Monument) are top considerations.

We don't have a place to stay yet, we may stay in Old Town in an Air BnB. But we are open to staying anywhere. I'll check those spots out!

Which would you recommend for a first timer: Troon(pinnacle) or Wickenburg Ranch?

Either is going to be a really good option.  If you don't mind the drive Wick Ranch gives you the chance to be more remote and you can go play the par 3 course afterwards.   Both courses will have shots where you need to make sure you fully understand where to hit (more room, less room) - so keep that in mind.  Practice facility at WR is better overall.  Both have good 19th holes and restaurants.  Troon is obviously more well known.

Yeah I’m torn on this one as I hear nothing but good about WR. Unfortunately as of recently the par 3 course is only available for the membership. So if I chose WR it would only be the 18 holes. Troon $280(yikes) and Wickenburg $180. Tough call, Troon has the edge due to location and history but I’m still 50/50…

anyone know what grayhawk's green fees are at the end of april by chance?

Look at the tee times on their website for the rates, the tee sheet is open to 4/27/22 as of today. Generally $240-$285 for that timeframe as of now.

When my friends and I play in AZ we rent a sprinter van and pick it up at the airport.

We found it to be cheaper than any other option.

Legacy $145  You should play Southern Dunes over this if this is the price!! It is exponentially better.

Wekopa Saguaro $170

Wekopa Chola   $170

Copper Canyon $120

Verrado - either course - but you may need to play in afternoon to get the $100 rate

Vistancia - should be able to get it for this rate.

Longbow - should be able to get it for close to this rate.

Could do Aguila - good muni, not about views.

Poston Butte

Possible - McDowell Mountain, Raven, Estrella Golf Club

See Above.

Just an FYI, it is near impossible right now to get a tee time at Copper Canyon as a non-resident of the community that will allow you to finish before dark. You might get lucky if you find someone else's cancellation that minute you are looking, but I would probably focus on playing somewhere else right now, unless this trip is during summer or something like that.

Good call....you have to call day before to get a decent time.

Rough estimate of date frames you'll be here will help, prices vary a lot as we enter and exit winter peak season, transition to summer, etc.

And make sure you're looking at non-resident rates if you're traveling here, like you've got Wekopa at $170 but unless you're not here until late April/May, or a resident, that sounds low.

I was looking at Wekopa last week and non-resident rates were high $200s.

Be there in April. Only looking for a few additional lower cost courses vs criticism on the listed costs. Lol.  Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you see "criticism"!  You're getting some guidance and help with no "criticism" but rather better value so you are not ripped off by the rates.  There are some here that could help you get good discounts on rounds and are just trying to help visitors.   Disappointing for someone to respond like this.

Sorry if you took it that way, did not mean any disrespect. The prices are just estimates since you cannot see out to April on most of the courses. So they were guesses based On what information is available.   Thanks for your help in advance.
