Jordan Spieth alternates between a hybrid and a 3 T-MB

heard he is pretty good

LOL! I'm not that good  His pre-round warmup includes hitting the physio trailer, chipping, putting, full range and autograph session.. mine includes pulling up 5 minutes before my tee time, finding some socks in my trunk and picking the ones that are still somewhat soft, check phone to see if wife has called or texted, pick out which cigar I want to smoke and proceed to bunt driver somewhere in play till I'm warm by the 6th hole  Yeah, the alternating thing always sounds like a good idea, but both clubs are so expensive that I just want something that works no matter where I play. We'll see if I can get this hybrid to work.

I’m going to gamble with a full set of CBs. They’d seem to offer a little more forgiveness than you’ve had (for #dadgolf) and still give you something good to look at.

And I reckon they could be shafted with something graphite.......

Just got back.. a few thoughts.

First - if you have the chance to get fit at TPI or equivalent, do it. This was great for free, but maybe about 50% the quality of fitting that TPI or other OEM equivalent would be. If I hadn't been previously fit at TPI or used to being fit, this was great, but very lacking for someone as fanatical about fitting as I am. If you're one of the guys usually getting fit into a net, this would be 100% better.

Anyways - on to the fitting.. conditions were 1.5 club into the face, hitting off perfect grass with the new ProV1x and using Trackman.

The new AP2 is REALLY good, almost went with it, but I like the compact look of the CB. I found the new CB to be an improvement over the 716, performs and feels better. The AP2 I found to be night and day to the 714 and better than the 716, it was really close to making the bag.

The LZ was the front runner for a while, till I hit the PX 6.5. The constant wind in the face allowed the PX 6.5 to really shine. While the PX was the overall winner, the LZ feels SO MUCH better than the PX. I'm almost contemplating getting the LZ and sacrifice a little on #'s for a huge improvement on feel.

I tried the Hybrid, it was much better than my current 716 TMB setup, I was really close to getting the 818 H2 till the fitter suggested I try the TMB with PX. I proceeded to rip two insanely good shots and the fitter said that's what I should go with.

For numbers reference the 716TMB was carrying about 206 into the wind, the H2 214, the 718TMB PX 218. My usual is around 220-225 with no wind.

So my set will be 718 TMB/CB/MB/SM7 - but torn on PX 6.5 or LZ 6.5.. the feel is that much better to me with the LZ.

I've been curious about those shafts, seeing them a lot in the Wrx range pictures each weak. I've been fit into Px a number of times but they aren't easy on my elbow, tried PXI and dumped them after a few rounds.

Go with what feels better if numbers are close. Life is too short to play with harsh sticks.

The PX had better numbers for sure, but not by a ton. I did like that they were easier to flight in the wind. Both went pretty high in general. I'm a high ball hitter.

Can you offer a brief comment on the 714 AP2 vs 718 AP2? If not, no sweat. After waffling quite a while between a T-MB/CB/MB set and T-MB/AP2 set, I've already pulled the trigger and they're due to arrive Monday...

For me:

Px 6.5 #2-Pw

Px 6.0 52*/58*

But I might change it to Px 6.5 top to bottom.

The Px 6.0 is great for all finesse shots, but lacks the stability of the 6.5 when I really need to swing hard (from the rough mostly)

LZ 7.0 or LZ 6.5 hard stepped once... It would feel a little stiffer and get the numbers closer to where you want them. I tried the LZ 6.5 and they just spin too much on anything not flush for my liking. If you HS or went 7.0 it would be closer to PX 6.5 performance and LZ feel.

You are all in on steel or still debating steel vs graphite.?

714's were more towards the game improvement side, the 718's (IMO) are way more towards the "players" side. They look great at address and the feel a little more solid. To me coming from MB's, the 714 I could feel that little pocket, the 718 feels much more solid. Numbers were actually good for me and they were going further than the CB's, they are 1 degree stronger and by design I believe they naturally are hotter. I've heard of a few non-Titleist guys all switch to them recently, if you went with the AP2's you can't go wrong. I just like the feel and look of the CB's better, and my numbers were good with both.

lz was kinda spinny and highflight to me but it does feel very good and thats because its a more active shaft. What have you thought about c taper or $ taper?

Hate the C-Taper, didn't really like the $ taper and neither were suggested during the fitting (not sure why).

Steel. My setup got beat by LZ and PX in terms of spin pretty bad. The LZ was much more pleasant to swing.. not even close. The #'s from the PX spoke for themselves though. The fitter said PX based on more stability and keeping spin in line.

I think Scratchswinger has the right idea with either getting the LZ 6.5 hard stepped or the 7.0 soft stepped. If the LZ feels that much better, that seems like the right direction to go.

Fitting is tomorrow AM.. pretty excited to see how it goes, more excited to finally get my order in for my new sticks. My 716's and SM6's are really beat up, just time for some fresh stuff. Shockingly my last update with pics on page 1 of this thread was from 2016 when these clubs were somewhat new. If you follow me on IG you might have seen how thrashed my 60V is, so time for new one of those. 60V is the only thing not getting changed, except maybe the shaft.

For some weird reason, I feel like I'm going to get fit to the PX LZ. My TPI fitting the PX and the X100 were the best numbers wise, but feel/load went to the X100.. the LZ in my mind seems to be somewhat in the middle of those, but we'll see. I also am not ruling out the AP2, this model seems to be the most "players" focused of all the AP2's so far. AP3 instead of the TMB? Hybrid instead of both? This has probably has the most potential for moving pieces I've had in a fitting yet.

Driver won't be touched, the shaft in my 3 wood needs to go - maybe something with more torque for better misses, irons probably all will be changed, SM7's will be ordered.. and I think that's it.

Thanks everyone who posted responses to my questions - I appreciate the feedback!

:partytime2: :alcoholic:

Wouldn't surprise if PX LZ is what you end up with, but would also encourage you test the DG tour issue AMT X100. I played PX LZ last year and did find them to be exactly what you said, a nice middle ground between PX and DG. However, even at 125G the long iron shafts could at times feel like I had to give it something extra (38 year old #DadGolf problems) and that wasn't helpful for consistency. The lighter long iron shafts in AMT have allowed me to make what feels like exactly the same swing on 3 and 4 irons that I do on the shorter irons and that has helped my long iron comfort level and confidence tremendously. For me, they launch just like X100 but don't require the grunt that 38 year old me has a harder time controlling than I did in my 20's.

Enjoy the fitting, my man!

I tried the tour AMT's and didn't like them, they went really high - but this was before my surgery so I'm not ruling them out either. Thanks man, just hope I get a good fitter :drinks:

That's why ended up sticking with standard PX...I hit the LZ's a mile in the air, they just didn't agree with how I load a shaft.

One more thing - which wedge shafts did you PX 6.5 guys go with in the 54, 60? Same flex? One softer?

Played PX 6.5 for 8 years before trying AMT X100 the last couple. PX wedge experiements never worked for me, your milage may vary though. Tried every flex in the PX, but always stuck with DG in the wedges for feel. Even going down to PX 5.5 in the higher lofted wedges felt weird to me, PX just loads differently and didn't work with my wedge swing unless it was a full yardage. PX 6.0 and 6.5 were ok in the PW and GW for the same reason (more full shots).

On another note, did you feel like the 718 TMB was a big upgrade or was the difference mostly down to the shaft?
