How to build an intimidating bag of clubs

I took these pics for the blades thread, but from what you all are describing I think my poser game is strong. Not a full set obviously but my woods and wedges don't change and one of those putters is my current top in rotation. I have a few different iron sets and I like to hit them at the range to enjoy them while I am working on stuff. So anyway, while not a full bag, I think it is a really solid intimidating bag based on mentioned criteria. The Ian pouter headcover I have had forever on my driver because it looks like me and I always have glasses and a visor on and I never cover my FW. Both putters are Cameron's with japanese head covers. I stole the bag from my brother when I stole his palmer standards and it is my range bag. I know it will hurt my intimidation factor, but the thing is falling apart and I am getting a new one before too long....

I play a lot with a guy who is a very very good player and has a very very intimidating bag to match. Old adams 9064 driver mizuno fli hi 2 and 4 irons mp-32 irons with a nice dime sized brown Mark in the center of every iron mizuno wedges and a scotty square back putter. Imo that's as intimidating as a bag can get !!!

@Bigmean,

The vintage Ping L8 stand bag that has been used so much that it's literally falling apart is part IS intimidation. Sure, a new bag will look nice and be more comfortable. But the character isn't there. Keep rockin the old bag. When the stand fully stops working, just use it as a carry bag (sat that b!tch on the ground like a boss)! You just need some sun-faded Ping barrel head covers to top it off.

I love golf

Driver:  2018 Cally Rogue 10.5* (Set to 12.5*)

Wedges:  PXG 0311 Forged 54*/58* MMT80 Stiff

Putter:  Odyssey Stroke Lab “Double Wide” 34”

Bag:  G-Fore Daytona Plus (AKA: Vessel Lite)

Like some old dark colored 12" inseam tennis shorts (preferably HEAD), an untucked proper fitting, but well-worn, collared athletic polo (UA, Nike Dri-Fit, bargain rack Champion or Snake Eyes), some old almost busted golf-sneaks (some version of Nike Air). And about 3 gloves snaked through the handle of the golf bag.

I am currently working with a pro on swingfix......The first video I sent him, I am wearing new balance slip on sneakers, a bright pink t shirt, mesh basket ball shorts and a trucker hat on backwards.... I wish it was on you tube so I could post it. Second vid I think I had on golf shoes at least hahaha.

I am also that guy who uses a tee as a ball marker and will pee anywhere on the course when playing with non serious friends in what becomes a drinking round. Not sure that is intimidating though.....

Wear out the stand and throw that b**** on the ground like a boss does sound pretty appealing though. My other bag is getting old, my wife(girlfriend at time) got me a black nike stand bag that I freaking love, I have no idea what it is, but it was bought around 2001 and I was going to make that the new range sack. Speaking of wife, took her and kids to range last time so she could film my swing for follow up lesson. So I am playing in my garage and just grab my 3 wood to make some practice swings and there are huge white marks on the crown and I was like WTF? When did I sky the crap out of this thing many times in a row? Then I remembered she asked me what club she should hit and I just gave her my 3 wood thinking that was a solid choice for her to bang some out with hahahaha. So now in addition to the lead tape on my 3 wood, I am repping some crown marks and paint damage because I just don't care. I actually laughed about it.

I could go HAM on the intimidating bag with gear I already have. Throw my persimmon driver in there(you know this!), with my raw titleist brad faxon wedge, my set of palmer standards or my raw mizuno mp14s with rust, and scrap the lajosi and Cameron's for my spalding tp mills that I unfortunately refinished, but I can just drag it behind my car on way to the course so that it is intimidating by the time I get there. Throw all that in my ping bag with a thumb worn through foot joy, sleeve of whatever urethane balls I got on sale last, and a bag of weed and send the intimidation needle through the roof.

While I agree with the core of the original article - the issue with older irons and wedges is that typically they do not conform to the new groove rules. If a good player wants to play USGA type events - they have to conform which most times means newer equipment.

I'd say if you can tell someone put a lot of thought into their set make up (gaps, etc) that they are typically a good player.

A good friend of mine is a +1 and he plays callaway s2h2 irons with a dimple worn in the 6 and 7 iron. He plays a old tour edge bazooka driver. The oldest scotty cameron putter I have ever saw. His headcover are the most mismatched worn put crap I have ever saw. Another good friend that I play with weekly bounces between scratch and 1 and he plays new bridgestone irons. Bridgestone driver with the new headcover. His bag looks extremely nice aND with very clean and new looking headcover. Great players come in all shapes and sizes. I think the bag tells you the least of anything about how they play.
