When it comes to the putter section, you get the feeling that Greg should just post a massive ? because who knows what is going to be in the bag any given week?!

Watching him putt has become painful...basically never feel like he's going to make one, even from very makeable distances. Definitely holding him back, ranks 68th in total putting.

I hear ya!! Changing a putter obviously can and has worked for DJ and others in the past but he seems to change things so much these days that it really is indicative of his not having confidence in his putting and if you don’t have confidence in it, the chances of them going in are diminished before he was even started.

for a guy who bombs it as far as he does you'd think he'd throw another wedge in the bag. gapping between a 52 and a 60 seems difficult.

I am baffled he continues to putt with a toe hang putter rather than face balanced. His stroke just doesn’t seem to fit a putter with toe hang. He hits so many sliding pushed putts which that style just isn’t helping.

But he is one of the best players in the world so wth do I know. But it’s always surprised me.

Definitely agree. IMO, part of the issue is that he has more of a pull-block type stroke, or more similar to a straight back and thru in the hitting zone. The mallets suit him more, but he is one of those guys that seems to want to play a blade/Anser style putter. With the blade, he'll tend to leave it out to the right more with his stroke. I thought I read somewhere that the TM guys worked with him and put him into the SpiderX after analyzing his stroke, even with the type of alignment mark on top, but he continues to go back to the blades.

Spider mini with a plumbers neck would be pretty sharp setup and probably much better for his stroke.

He doesn’t seem to know what he wants to do on the greens and the minute either. Watching the coverage this evening - one minute DJ is reading the putts, the next Austin is in doing some AimPoint - you can’t help but think that he would be better settling on a flat stick and a routine and sticking with it for a little while and seeing how to goes.

My comments exactly. I believe putting strokes are a mini-version of the swing for almost all players. His bowed wrist and pull move through the ball will tend towards a block to the right, exaggerated on left to right putts.

Incidentally, my theory on swinging+putting is also why I think players with active "hit"-type swings get twitchy on their putting strokes. Those fantastic hands and quick twitch muscles lead to great ball striking, but it's hard to turn off in the putting stroke too. They then turn to compensations to quiet the right hands, pencil grip/claw etc. See Sergio, Phil, Fleetwood.

He flipped yesterday 1/2 way thru to left-hand low! His reasoning was "it couldn't get any worse"!! Talk about searching.... he's trying different weights, heads, styles, finishes, grips, techniques....and I'm just talking about this week!
