FJ Dryjoy Shoes

Any current or former Dryjoy users out there? I’m thinking of making the switch. I like the classic style and 2 year waterproof guarantee. I am a walker so I have some concerns about weight and comfort. Let me hear what you have to say.

Been wearing FJ Dry Joy Premier Classics for years. I don't walk but they are very comfortable and will last quite a while of taken care of. Now they are obviously a little heavier than the new technology shoes but I wouldn't think it would make that much difference. Anyway they will be comfortable and last but I can't help you on the walking part.

My take:

They are heavy, but you get used to it.

Nice stiff sole, but bends well.

My feet are dry from outside environment, but wet from inside environment.

I really need 1/2 size bigger, but they do not make it (I wear a 12).

I wish I would have spent the few extra on the Blacks...

Good decision placing an order. Any one who describes them as heavy is right in comparison to some of the shoes on the market now but honestly, it’s not like you are walking around with lead weights strapped to your feet. Comfortable, stable and with old school looks. What is not to like?!

I have always loved DryJoys, had multiple pair over the years and they are probably my favorite overall golf shoe.

That said, I walk about half of my rounds and when I walk I will almost always grab a different shoe. It's only due to the weight, as the DryJoys are super comfortable, but I have a pair of heavily spiked D.N.A.'s that I wear when it's wet and either some spikeless Ecco's or AirMax's in the summer when it's dry. And to be clear, the weight is not prohibitive to walking, I could walk 18 in them easily. It's just sometimes, especially in the summer, it's not uncommon for me to head to the club early and play 18 and then end up in an E-9 or even E-18, and all of a sudden I've had the same shoes on for 10 hours. It's those occasions that the weight gets noticeable and I like having my Air Max's.

As a diehard traditional golf shoe fan I have been a DryJoys Tour guy for the last 15 years and still have two pair in my rotation. But last year I splurged on a pair of Icon Shield Tips. Surprisingly they broke in faster and are more comfortable to walk in than the DJTs. I have flirted with the Ecco Biom 2 and the Adidas Adipure TC spikeless from a few years ago and always went back to FJ.

Well guys, I’m sending the pair that arrived back. They are WAY to narrow in the toe box (even though I ordered wide width) and my heel didn’t sit low enough in the shoe causing the heel to slip. It’s an absolute nightmare trying to find shoes for my screwed up feet.

Length wise I was fine. I’m a 9.5 in FJ and 10 in Adidas. Any longer there’s no way my foot was staying in the shoe. As much as I want to wear FJ I just can’t. The shape of their shoes doesn’t work with my feet. I’ve had decent success with Adidas in the past but IMO, since they separated from TM, the styling (clothes included) is becoming more non-traditional. Some will love it, but not me. I’m currently wearing Ecco Biom Hybrid 3 now. The shape is actually pretty good, there’s room for my toes. I don’t love the shape of the footbed and it’s firm feel. My feet are somewhat sore after walking 18. I have a pair of True Linkswear Majors being delivered today. I shall see how those work out.

I am a FJ Dry Joys wearer, I love them, very comfortable and classic looking. You can customize pairs which is nice too. I don't walk but they are not heavy IMHO give great traction and last a very long time if taken care of. Just my .02

I love my DJT's but they are a bit heavy compared to my goretex Ecco's and other shoes. I think that is because the sole of the DJT's is much stiffer. Overall they are very comfortable and you will have no issues walking 18 in them. Love the look of the white on white for that classic style.

Love the Dry Joy's. Been playing them for years. The size remains consistent from model to model and year over year. High quality shoe. A little surprised by the "heavy" comments. I always walk and don't find them heavy in the least. I greatly prefer a shoe with stability and those running shoe type golf shoes are a non starter for me.

  • 3 weeks later...

Shoes are a personal feel thing for sure. I wore dry joys for many years and liked them fine. A few years ago I decided to try different ones. Adidas, Puma and Nike.. didnt like them much... but when the FJ DNAs firts came out, I gave them a go and a lot of folks wont agree, but the original DNAs are the most comfy golf shoes I ve ever worn. I got the DNA v2 the next year and dont like them as much as the v1. Got some Puma Ignite last year and have only worn them for 2 rounds, and every one else raves about their comfort but for me, they were not comfy at all. . Im still rocking that first generation of DNA, and will until the soles fall off.
