Srixon Z-745 irons.... who’s playing or played them?

Have a band new set but have yet to try them out. Needs to get a little warmer out.

Obligatory pic just because they're so good looking.

I play them and they are the best irons I've ever gamed.

For a smaller players muscle cavity, they are ultra forgiving. The look and feel are 10/10.

The only Cons: This is going to be a con for any soft forged iron, but while that soft forging promotes excellent feel, the bag chatter and wear and tear over the course of a few seasons is significant. You should see my 9 iron after a shot out of a waste area on a recent Troon North trip lol

Currently playing them and have no plans to change until they wear out. Softest feeling irons I have ever played. You'll hear lots of comments about the V-sole, both for and against, but it works great for me. I play them in a Steelfiber i95S shaft.

I have only found a couple of clubs that I would change them out for. Maybe the Honma TW 747V. I hit the new Wilson blades the other day and were very impressed by those as well.

One of the GOAT... not as good as the J15 CB but they are fantastic irons... played them for almost 3 years before I could find something to kick them out...

Played a black set of Z745's in 3i-PW with the Nippon 130X shafts up until last season, wonderful sticks! Only replaced them becasue the Z Forged were so darn pretty!

Still play them. Awesome, low profile look. All the top lines blend into each other. The feel on center hits is beautiful. Halfway decent forgiveness on off center contact. Love the wider V-sole. The V shaped muscle in back just powers through the ball.

Srixon Z 745 irons: A modern cult classic?

I just picked up a used set. Feel is great, and agree, they are much more forgiving than they appear. Only complaint is that I don't love the shininess of the sole. After some use it seems to look strange, like it's tinfoil glued on or something. Minor complaint though, they aren't leaving the bag anytime soon!

Very much agree on what you've said there. Don't know if there is a better description. Profile wise they are just about as good as you can get with a forged CB. Squat-ish blade length, nice top line, minimal offset, and fantastic through the turf. If you REALLY skank one out the toe or bottom your distance will drop off a bit (maybe 10-15 yards carry?) but the directional forgiveness compared to a pure blade is absolutely noticeable. The blade doesn't flop way open if you toe it. I have mine built with SPB X and the combination is nothing short of delicious out the middle. It's one of those irons that you look down at and think "this is what an iron should look like". It's completely inoffensive in every category of aesthetics and it plays great to boot.

The 745's have GOAT status. Srixon took them and destroyed them to create the 765's which IMO were wastes of metal. Shame how they didn't listen to the people. I feel like Srixon has gone backwards ever since.

The 785 are absolutely money as well. I agree the 765 were awful IMO though they did give me my first V sole experience which I can thank them for. I got CRAZY fliers with them though. Sold after one round. 745 and 785 have been amazing for me.

I still have the z745 in the bag. Great clubs. Size looks about perfect, more forgiving than you would think just looking at them. Perfect shape and lines to my eye. I love the square shape.

The 765’s definitely seemed like a huge step in the wrong direction. Blade length was a good bit longer looking , toe looked extremely rounded compared to the original. The combination of those things and maybe the hosel transition caused it to look like it had much more offset than the original, even though the spec sheet shows them being close.

I think the 785’s were a nice step back in the right direction. Looks wise, went back to some of the styling cues of the 745. But, the 745’s still look the best and feel as good or better than anything else out there.

Have a set of z745s back up in Canadia (funnily enough in the same neck of the woods from where Happy is in that GIF) in my backup bag. I have some Speeder Pro 87i shafts in them and reckon those are my 55+ loss of clubhead speed keepers.

IMHO, no 1/2 decent golfer needs anything more 'forgiving' than z7s. They are just excellent allrounders. Tempted to get another set to play down here, but also want to give the X Forged '18s chance first.

I agree. 785’s were a step back in the right direction but I’d like them to go back to the offset of the 745’s

FWIW - I've played both 765 and 745s - both are amazing and feel great. If you mishit one, it'll let you know right away. The fact they are forged is great for modifying lies and lofts. If you get your hands on a new/newish set of 745's hope on them. They're not around in great condition often but don't be afraid of hitting the 765's - which I game now and equally love. TL:DR -- you can't go wrong with either, if you find some good condition ones - snap em up

I’ve had these for several seasons now. I think a year after they were released. I’ve never thought about replacing them. I did switch out the 4 and eventually the 5 iron for 5 series as I’ve had kids don’t play as much and got old. Just to keep the gaps in the long irons. I’ve had multiple wood changes but never think of switching out my irons. Classics

This is my 4th season with them. They are perfect irons. I would buy another set if I could find one new. I checked Golf Avenue and they aren't there. There was a set of 945 new for $450 I really regret passing on a couple months ago.

I agree on the shaping of the 765, they are too rounded, but they are still great irons as well. I have the 765 AW. It feels great, but the shaping kinda bugs me.

That’s funny you say that about the 765 gap wedge. I had one that I tried to blend with my 745’s, but it didn’t work. Just didn’t look right to me compared to the 745’s. I ended up stumbling across a Razr X Forged gap wedge that matches the lines and shape of the 745 better. It does have more scoring lines and does not have the V sole, but have been much more comfortable with it than I ever was with the 765 gap wedge.

Yeah, it's not bad looking, but an abrupt difference. The leading edge bothers me most as I prefer that straighter for a AW. Considered grinding it. Might switch to z785 AW. Haven't seen in person, but looks better in pics.
