2 flights / 2 broken clubs

Recommended Posts

On a recent flight from Brussels to Agadir TuiFly broke one of my clubs. On the flight back, they broke one of my wife’s clubs. I said they are responsible for showing reasonable care. Their reply “we are not responsible for anything that happens to your clubs”

Have you had similar issues with TuiFly/ other airlines

Any thoughts/ suggestions on how to get them to pay for damages?

Not a battle your going to win. Using a stiff arm and removing adjustable heads will avoid this kinda thing 95% of the time.

this. unless u have pics of hard case damage, losing battle.

ship sticks uses the same airlines

This is always my response to the "use Shipsticks" comments. Your clubs are going to get slammed around on a plane one way or the other.

I wont beat the use a hard case drum anymore than I do already. But it doesnt look like there is a whole lot of padding in that bag either.

You're going to have to eat the cost, or spend a lot of time and frustration fighting it.

I undo any adjustable heads, use a stiff arm, and stuff towels between iron heads before securing it all with the rain hood.

I pack towels and clothes between the heads to ensure they can't really bend and move around. It's worked for me but maybe I haven't caught your bad luck.

My friendly warning / caveat with this is always the TSA question. If they unpack your clubs for inspection - which I'd say happens on 90% of the flights I take - there's no guarantee they will repack it the same way. If you have a simple case with no padding in it - you could be left with a real dicey situation.

I've had my case left like this a few times. I always wrap the heads with 2 towels even though its a hard shell case thats padded in that area. Yet when I opened it, I found the towels folded and laid on the bag somewhere - not re-wrapped.

Its another reason I hesitate to recommend anything other than a hardshell case or a heavy duty soft case like the Club Glove.

Last year on flight out to Irvine from Sioux Falls, SD (small airport) the TSA guy called me over because he had a question and then said, "do you want to watch?" while he looked over my bag and zipped it up. That was kind of reassuring, but would never happen in a large airport, at least not my usual experience.

I've gone to the Club Glove Collegiate and Stiff Arm, no issues to Europe or California, but I have a hard case and since it's just the two of us this summer, I'm thinking of shipping in that and storing it somehow at Glasgow Airport while we are there, I think some folks have mentioned lockers or something similar if you want to leave those at the airport during your trip. Looking forward to a smaller rental car as well just for me and my honey.

Sorry bryan, can't really tell by the pics but if you didn't use a hard case I've got no sympathy for you.

If you DID use a hard case you might have a case with the airline.

I don't know that airline's policy but the airlines I've used specifically state they won't be responsible for such equipment unless it's packed in a hard case. Of course they don't say they WILL be responsible if it is in a hard case but,,,,,,,,,

Up until earlier this year I used a Callaway soft case with a wrap-over hard plate that goes over the top of your clubs. I used that thing on probably a dozen flights over the last 10-11 years, never had a busted club. I always made sure to wrap my towels around the clubs for extra padding as well.

However, on the last flight I was on earlier this year, TSA managed to break the main strap on the outside of it. So last month I purchased a new Club Glove with a Stiff Arm. The guy that sold it to me said between the Stiff Arm and making sure to take off any removable driver heads, I shouldn't have a problem.

I agree. I have several hundred flights with my Club Glove. So far, so good.

Back in the 1900's club heads were fixed, even then, never a problem.
