2019 Military Tribute at the Greenbrier

I guess we are seeing the results of PGA Tour's attempt to address 'speed of play' by scr3wing the players. So instead of enforcing speed-of-play, they decide to 1) limit the field and 2) move the cut line to top-65 and ties (instead of 70). I'm sure Pat Perez and Michael Collins will be talking about this on their radio show on SiriusXM Tuesday night. Going to be even that much harder for players to win...fewer get in and fewer make the cut.

They're saying, If you're not going to rat out the slow ones then we will limit the field. I would imagine more of the pie will go to the ones that do make the sixty five and ties cut. The new rule affected what 15-18 players? Guess the ones affected just have to play better..

Actually as a fan I'm fine with the new rule. It got ridiculous when over 80 guys would end up making the cut. The now Korn Ferry has always been top 65 and ties making the cut. To the victor goes the spoils and the winner should get more of the purse. Now everyone that makes the cut plays all weekend without the MDF cut after Saturday which is how it should be IMO.

Yes Niemann was the top amateur in 2017 and Sergio has been mentoring him for awhile. He earned his tour card last year at 19 and has a really good shot to win at age 20. He's younger than Hovland and Morikawa. Niemann was supposed to attend South Florida Univ but had issues with English fluency so he renounced his invites to the 2 Opens and just turned pro. Seems to be working out for him.

Joaquin Niemann becomes the first golfer from Chile to win on the PGA Tour.

He is the first 54 hole leader to win the Greenbrier.

He is the second 20 year old to win on the PGA Tour in 2019. (Wolff is 7 months younger)

He is slightly older than Tiger was when he posted win #1 at Las Vegas and slightly younger than Seve Ballesteros when he won in Greensboro and Rory when he won at Quail Hallow.

He is projected to be the first Chilean to enter the top 50 in the OWGR

As for Viktor Hovland, he posts a T 10th. His last five final rounds on the PGA Tour Tour: 64.65.64.65.64. His 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s ties the mark held by Bob Estes from 2001.

Ha no I didn't, but I'm happy for him! Dude definitely has the talent being the number 1 amateur and not even playing in college. Dude's funny nickname (according to him) is furby boy. That had me rooting for him immediately lol. Guy is humble and super talented. Also he looks like a smaller guy, but is actually 6 feet tall. The crop of young rookies this year is very promising! I love how there are these lower ranking events where young guns can get in a get a win and make some money. PGA tour right now is set up well for golf fans who are interested in all the golfers. And a short few months for ones who only care about majors.

Ive said multiple times that the slow play "issue" has nothing to do with the actual pace of play, but the amount of golfers on the course at one time. Limiting the field and reducing the cut is absolutely the right move. You're not "scr3wing" anyone as long as everyone knows the rules going in.

Winning on the PGA Tour is unbelievably lucrative. It should be hard to win. And it should be hard to make the cut and get paid.

This was a 156 man field, so there was no reduction in field size. The only difference was the 65 and ties cut, slow play has never been an issue on the weekend (due to field size) when 50% of the players are no longer playing.

Perhaps so (156-man field), but they did mention paring it down to 135. I see the Europeans are incorporating GPS tracking to identify who the slow players are instead of just making more room to mitigate slowness problems.

[htthttps://golfchannel.com/news/gps-tracking-slow-play-place-european-tours-bmw-pga-championshipp://](htthttps://www.golfchannel.com/news/gps-tracking-slow-play-place-european-tours-bmw-pga-championshipp:// "htthttps://golfchannel.com/news/gps-tracking-slow-play-place-european-tours-bmw-pga-championshipp://")

VIRGINIA WATER, England – Last month, the** European Tour unveiled a four-point plan to address slow play, and one of the first pieces of that plan will be put to the test this week at the BMW PGA Championship.

A GPS tracking system will be used this week that will allow officials to keep track of each group’s position on the golf course. The system will also provide displays on tees to let players know their position relative to the groups around them.**

A tracking device with be placed on one golf bag in each group. When that group completes a hole, the information is sent to officials and displayed on five holes (Nos. 4, 7, 10, 13 and 16). The plan is to have displays on every hole beginning next year.

The displays will include the hole number, which group is now playing, and the players in the group. If a group is out of position, it will be noted by a plus mark and a red number.

The European Tour tested the tracking system at the Open de Bretagne on the Challenge Tour two weeks ago.

The circuit’s pace-of-play plan addresses regulation, education, innovation and field sizes; it will also include increased fines for pace-of-play violations and targeted timings of slow players.
