Does color help you find your ball?

I play the Wilson optic color balls. Red and lime green. I can see them and find them better than any other. For whatever reason (age or just bad eyes) I really struggle to see and find white balls these days.

I wouldn't say that color helps me find my ball, but I do like walking up to the green and knowing right away which ball is mine. The guys I play with normally play white, so I'm the only one using yellow.

Only time yellow doesn't work here is the spring. Mixed with dandelions in the rough, hard to find them. Other than that, better in the air and the rough for me. Noticed yesterday, more are gaming them on The Champions Tour and a couple on the PGA Tour. Looking forward to trying the new BXS yellow (2020 model when it comes out).

I dont think it really makes a difference. I seem to lose the bright colored balls just as easily as I do the white ones.

Does color help you find your ball? Hitting the fairway helps you find your ball. Hitting the green helps you find your ball. But now that I think of it, I've only found 2 or 3 colored balls in the last few seasons so maybe they are easier to find..hmm.

Well. Not all of us are scratch, I'm afraid. Some of us have poor eyesight. Some of use just happen to pull or push a shot or two a round in the rough and it happens to be very deep and coarse (Torrey pines a month or less prior to an event).

Outright and straight up, if there is overcast, a yellow ball is (to me) easier to track in the air. The white can blend in with grey and white clouds. Now, if there is foliage on the ground or thatch and other forms of dead greenery, a yellow ball is definitely not the easiest route. But neither is a yellow.

Learning to watch your ball fly, no matter how horrendous the shot and remembering where it is and settled will make the game go SO MUCH FASTER. For everyone including the people behind you.

Color doesn't really matter except for blue ones. I had so much trouble finding blue colored balls. Don't get blue balls!

Had trouble tracking my shots in the fall/winter sky. Tried orange (Titleist Velocity); much, much easier to track. (Wasn’t crazy about the ball itself.)

It sure does for me and the other 'old guys' in our foursome. I can hardly follow a white ball any more. I use Yellow in non-winter, and Vice Lime Green when bermuda is dormant, easy to spot from long ways away.

I find I can track a yellow or red ball in the air easier. Especially on overcast or cloudy days.

 

The main reason for me playing yellow is because I've had balls scooped up in tournaments twice so less people play yellow and I can spot a thief or dum dum easier LOL.

Oh I'm not a scratch either. I was just saying more fairways and greens =less lost balls. But, as I said I don't find many colored balls, I do come across a lot of white balls so yeah maybe they are easier to find.

Interesting topic, I'm going to try yellow ProV1x's next year I think. To me, they seemed easier to track in the air. I would echo, they're not necessarily easier to find on the ground...from the limited amounts of them that I have seen.

I find the "pure white" label on the Srixon balls work well. Other white balls seem to get dull and turn grey.

Some of the red and orange balls are probably the easiest to see, but I always play a yellow ball. I prefer those with a touch of green to them like the Snell. Either way, they are easier to find, and easier to distinguish from my playing partners. It's nice driving up to the fairway and knowing exactly which one is yours, not having to roll up to different balls and models and numbers.

Great advice....getting blue balls is terrible...haha... Enough kidding around though, I completely agree about blue golf balls! My group almost lost one that was nearly center cut in the fairway. Ive found yellow/green (depending on manufacturer) to be the easiest to spot but thats just me. I have difficulty looking down on a red golf ball for some reason but one of my playing partners swears by them...

It's crazy to see all the different opinions and it seems it's more of an individual thing. I find it easier to find yellow or neon green than white for some reason. For me Blue seems to be the hardest to spot followed by red. I also love playing the Callaway Green/Yellow Soccer Balls. I feel I concentrate more on the ball for some reason.

A buddy of mine plays Snell yellow balls and raves about how they are easier to find on the ground. I’ll admit they are extremely bright, almost as if they are glowing

LOL, took the words right out of my fingers....any ball is easier to find in the fairway. I still prefer colored (Yellow or Lime) as easier for older eyes to track in flight. I can follow white when they leave, but lose them on the way down.

I play the yellow Pro V1X mostly because none of the people I play with play a yellow ball, so I always immediately know which ball is mine. That said, we played at Bandon Dunes a couple months ago and early in the morning hitting into intense fog, it was a bit easier to track the ball flight with the yellow balls.

I always use white q stars and this fall thought id try the yellow q star thinking it would show up better in the dormant burmuda grass but for me thats not the case.

Don't feel bad... two buddies and my wife can't see past 100yds and they are in their early 50's. I get a bit overworked if playing with all three at the same time. LOL Thank goodness I hit the ball straight.

I am closing in on 65 and my hearing is going, but my eyes are still very sharp. Which in golf that is what matters more, lol.

I'll echo some of the comments in this thread. I find that red/orange balls are the easiest to track and spot once they land. I haven't found much difference between finding yellow and white balls, but I do find the yellow balls easier to track. Blue, however, are the worst. They are difficult to track and somehow, the blue blends in with grass better than you'd expect.

I've always used white balls but this thread is really making me want to try yellow or even red/orange. Being able to track balls in flight easier would be a big enough bonus for me.

If a ball is too bright under sunlight, I may have trouble staying focused at address. In this situation, I think matte finished balls are better.

May be counter intuitive here but for my 44 yr old eyes, I find white balls easier to find this time of year and the yellow balls easier to see in spring and summer. I Miss the Nike yellow...it was soooo bright. Bridgestone is a close 2nd on the color of their yellows.

I typically play a white ball during the season but switch to a yellow ball during the fall to spring. It's much easier to find a yellow ball in the leaves or even on the fairway when the sunlight is grazing/ low in the sky. I prefer the optic yellow balls like Snell, Titliest, etc. over the bright colored matte finish balls too. The matte finish just gets dirty too fast and you can't find them after that.
