Are these forums dying?

I agree completely. It's not forums that are dying, it's courteous discourse.

I actually feel like while I agree with your sentiments overall (as anyone who has been on the internet for 10+ years inevitably would)....this particular site is probably not much more negative than it was since the beginning. I remember like 7-8yrs ago there was some real bickering too. I dont post as much lately but I'd still say there's a lot of decent discussions here that dont completely devolve. For the internet, this place is really really good

I dont post as much mostly because I've seen every thread 400 times already. Not because of the overall mood.

I agree that WRX is more congenial than most forums.

Yep you are 110% correct on that. One of the reasons guys like me and my buddy Wriggles stay in certain areas. As in real life if I disagree with you I am not going to say it to be degrading. I will say IMHO which means a lot and is not etched in stone Holy Grail and let it be. I know where you are coming from because I deal with enough a$$hats in real life every day to put up with them on here or any other social media platform. Good example the only reason I even read and posted here was because Wriggles commented. Like you I do not expect everyone to agree with me 100% of the time but it can be done with tact I agree. Been a member for a while but didn't really get in to the forums until the last couple of months. I only post when I feel I have something meaningful to contributing but family, work and the wait until new equipment and spring arrives does lead to a natural downturn in forum activity.

Breaks my heart to go through old posts and see ild posters in the classics with so much knowledge who just don't post nowadays. I think they lurk around, or some of them do, but the site has slowed dramatically.

I'm with the other posters with the, everyone has their opinion and it's the only one view. Too many times here and in real life to be honest; people think their view is black and white, and that is a turn off compared to a spirited but respectable debate/learning opportunity.

Some days I wish the world was more black and white, would make decision making easier, but would be a whole lot more boring. :p

Was away from here for a couple months playing golf, working, fishing, and living life. Came back today and there's another "what hdcp to play blades" going strong.....

More of the trolling that has been infecting this place for a long time.

A lot of times life itself gets in the way--- A lot of the guys my age (62) have grand kids and families---- I have just the wife and little dog and BTW we are perfectly content. I do not watch much TV but the wife does and this is my entertainment--- I can have a more intelligent conversation with folks like you on here than I can around here in real life. Sad but true most folks around here have zilch for golf knowledge

I’ve slowed my own participation, but not because of the bickering. For me, it’s basically two things: First, the redesign and the ads. Most of the time I come here it’s on an iPad Mini, and for whatever reason, the load time for the site as slowed to a crawl. That doesn’t happen on the other popular site. Second, boredom. After all these years, to my way of thinking, there really is nothing new under the sun. Get fit, seek a competent instructor, post a video so we can help....

The lack of an app is the biggest reason this site has slowed down in my opinion. I feel like we are using 2010 technology in 2020. This site feels “old”. I don’t know how exciting or interesting it is anymore. We have a local Indy thread going and that’s the only thing I am interested in participating in. I am way more invested in playing golf than I am in equipment as well anymore.

It's winter, people are on here lessThe redesign kinda sucked- How many months was the update delayed again, like 7? Partial quoting is still broken. Threads don't seem better or worse per se, but embedded ads+ many more "influencers" participating in brand wars aren't enjoyable.Largely, technical golf content has really improved elsewhere. There are better YouTube channels and (gasp) other websites that are providing better technical information, and I think there's less of that here. Gearheads will follow where they can get the info they want. Meanwhile, front page product reviews are using phrases like "wizard math."

I've slowed down tremendously. In fact, this is my first post in I can't remember how long.

The re-design drove me away. I think it is still not user friendly. I get annoyed when things that are working get re-designed. I'm too busy to want to learn new stuff.

I also feel that the tone of posts often end up with posters degrading one another. I don't want to take my time with that sort of thing.

Hit em good

Although I'll admit I haven't scoured the web looking at golf forums but even with the amount of combative newer members lately this place is still the best as far as I'm concerned. I have noticed the site has become very slow to respond to typing and likes. It's all the great members here that keep me coming back.
