Do your wedges match your iron set?

I have Ping i200 irons and because of their wanting to sell their inferior wedges I have a huge drop off in yardage from the U 50* ping to a blade wedge. The U goes around 115. Now if they made an S, like they do in most of their other offerings, I would be happy as a pig in shit. I spent 2 years trying to find a wedge that went 105 yards. Even now, I have to pound the Cleveland RTX4 53* to get that distance. Not something you want to do in a wedge.....

Currently in the bag I have first generation Epic 4-pw and SM6 50, 54 and 58. All of them have steel shafts. Project X LZ in the Epic’s and Wedge flex in the Vokey’s. When golf opens back up in New Mexico I will be playing PXG Gen2 0311p irons with Steelfiber i95 stiff. I have been having shoulder issues the past two seasons so I am giving graphite a shot. If it works out I will order new wedges.

I’ve always had specialty wedges different from my irons but my 2015 forged Vokeys were worn out so I decided to try the new T-20 to go with my MP-20s. So far so good.

Mine are different. I play Bridgestone j15 CB’s but haven’t liked the look of Bridgestone wedges. I’ve played Vokey SM5’s, but switched to Callaway MD forged wedges this year. I could definitely see myself playing matching wedges and irons if I played Titleist or Callaway, or Ping irons.

I think all companies make solid wedges these days so really you cant go wrong matching your set or going off brand. Most important is keeping in mind proper gapping (tested not just assumed), and make sure you consider if having some added forgivness if needed or not.

I play Srixon 765s and liked my PW so much that I bought another and bent it to 50 degrees so that it feels and plays like my PW. I’m a lefty so I was left to my own devices. I used Vokeys 54 & 58 to round out my set

I have 54 and 60. I can take a lot off the 54 and still hold the green.

One of the first rounds i played with this setup i had 3 shots that were a stretch for a 60. The greens were elevated and the pins were near the front of the green so i didnt want to be short. Put all 3 inside 5 feet with the 54 which sealed that setup for me.

Screw it. I’m gonna get the 55* SW with Modus 105 Stiff. It’s the same as my irons and GW, except that they are Regular flex.

shrug on the difference in flex (I think/hope)

I just did the same thing, but went the other way with regular flex Recoils in my SW and LW and stiff in my 919 HM irons. How did you like your purchase?

My PW is set, but gap and Sand are not. Currently Lazrus but I have some Maltby wedges with the same shaft as my irons currently on backorder.

Brand Matches, yessir...TMp790 down to MG2's - but my shafts drop down from PX6.5 to PX6.0 for a bit more feel.

I still haven't tried PX6.5 in wedges though...Maybe I'd prefer the consistent feel top to bottom?

I play vokey's in my SW and LW.  My iron set goes down to the AW, which is 48*.  I am contemplating replacing my set AW with a vokey, but only because I swear my set wedges are hotter off the face than the vokey.  I consider my PW a short iron and not a wedge and I would prefer all my wedges to be controllable and chipping with my AW is difficult at best.  Sometimes the ball just rockets off the face, which leads me to hit bad shots with it when finesse is needed.

I play the same manufacturer for my wedges as my irons but not the same  model.  I definitely want my wedge set to match each other so that the only differences are the loft and very slight length changes.

They used to with the T20 Mizuno 50/55/60 but have moved on the PXG 0311T 50 and two 0311Forged 56/60 and loving the new PX IO shafts in them. Gaps and flights are perfect.
