Ball markers.....does the size a fellow player uses bother you?

I don't think a player should mark their ball with a man hole cover but some coin or token is fine. As long as the mark is not in my line I could care less. If a mark is in my line I ask the player to move it appropriately, maybe one club head or two. I don't care for tees in the ground. I use a Byron Morgan ball marker, about the size of a quarter. I have used a copper TP Mills ball mark in the past, again, the size of a quarter. At the end of the day I am not focused on the ball mark but the line of my putt.

Yes the closer to the hole you get the smaller the object should be. So either use something small, or carry a penny to place near the hole. I love my two in one ball marker. Always a quarter.

I don't care what people use, as long as they keep it out of my way. Years ago during league playoffs, the team we were playing, the captain, had an issue with people using quarters. Said they distracted him if he could see them. He was also a big Curler, or loved to curl. SO on the first hole, I had my buddy use his 2006 Olympic Bronze medal for a marker to mess with him.

I don't care what others use to mark their ball. I use a Morgan Silver Dollar and it has bothered others that I have played with. Their problem, not mine.

There was a report that Tom Weiskoff got after the U.S. Senior Am Champ for not using a dime at the Masters to mark his ball. Weiskoff was known in those days as not the happiest of persons.

I've seen some comments on another thread about how Tom Weiskopf allegedly chewed out a amateur in a pro-am for using a quarter instead of apparently the more common penny.

I've played with guys that have used poker chips from Vegas, 50 cent size neon green plastic ones, and shiny dimes....none of them seem to bother me as I am more involved with trying to figure out the line and speed of my putt.

I can see some advantages from the bigger markers as I have had many fellow players step in my line about 1-2 feet from the hole simply because they either didn't know to not step in the line or did not see the marker. Most likely the latter. Lately I've kind of summed up the guys that I'm playing with that day as to how aware they are of other's putting lines on the green. If they seem to be knowledgeable about those courtesies I will use a dime....in not I will use a 50cent piece to help them see where I am at.

What size marker do you use? Does it bother you when someone in your group uses a large marker?

The size of a man's balls marker only bothers me in a locker room shower! Hahaha.

Seriously tho, I use a penny or something similar in size around the hole. I expect the same in return.

I don't mind a large marker but I don't understand the need for one. I haven't read the whole thread so this may have been answered but what is the reason for using a poker chip? I use a NY Giants magnetic marker/divot tool combo. I have played with people who use poker chips and near my line or even on the other side of the hole can be a little distracting but I block it out and focus on my putt.

Nope. Don't care. If it's in my line, regardless of the size, I'm going to ask them to move it.

It's so morons can see it and don't step on your line/marker. When playing with people that pay attention I'll use a dime, but all too often it needs to be a poker chip.

I've been playing golf for 25 years and can probably count on one hand the number of times someone has stepped on my line when using a small marker. Must be playing with a lot of drunks or people who have no golf etiquette. :)

Doesn't bother me what the other folks use to mark the ball as long as it's not in my line. They don't even have to mark it if they don't want to.

I chuckle every time someone sortta brags about his/her original/unique ball marker, and then, loses track of it on the green!

I think the weight profile is more important, and bugs me, more than the overall size. Poker chips drive me mad, especially in my pre-putt routine as I am trying to zero in on the aiming point for the putt. It just draws your eyes off that point, and thus, draws the putt off (at times).

I use a quarter or a dime, depending on the anal retentiveness of those who accompany on the track.

I will use whatever silver coin I pull out of my pocket first. I don't give a hoot what others mark their ball with as most of the time I get asked by them if the mark will be in my line anyway. I have never had a playing partner give me a stink about moving their mark if asked.

I actually had a guy pick up my quarter once and exclaim,"Hey look, I found a quarter". He was dead serious. With people I usually play with, after many, many years of golfing, I can count on one hand the times when no one has stepped on my line at least once a round.
