I think the '72 looks quite a bit like the John Letter's Master Model I have. Similar weight placement. 

 

I'll be honest and say that I don't really have any interest in shafts (especially in irons). I have 2s, 3s and 4s in my various Hogans. I notice weight much more than flex.

Link is to a historical thread where the OP creating a spreadsheet with Hogan iron specs.  Full credit to the originator, all I did was save it.  Sadly and once again, all the attachment information was lost with the site hosting platform changes.  

The spreadsheet of specs.  The '72 Apex E is listed at 51.5*.

Brilliant, thanks. Still seems odd to have such a gap. I don't think I've seen anything other than 4* in any iron set I've owned.

Check the posted link above.  Finally figured out how to get the spreadsheet attached.  Hopefully you can open it.  Toggle "Hogan" on the tab bar.

Yes, I got it. Thank you. It seems that 5* was more the norm in vintage sets.

I think maybe those numbers listed on Ironfinder are actual measurements of the clubs they are trying to sell, not proper factory specs.  I noticed there are a couple of 3 degree gaps too where there should be 4.

Here is a pdf of info that was on the Hogan Website when they were owned by Spalding.  Hogan used a 45 degree 9 iron for a long time.  The Equalizer was originally 52 degrees in the 1950's and slowly got down to 49* by the late 80's.

I stopped by a Thrift store I hadn't been to in about a month yesterday and found these Staff woods. I know, not persimmon, who cares. Here's the thing. This was the same thrift chain where I found my Bullet Backs at the end of last month; different location, same company. I grabbed them because they are the same year as my Bullet Backs and same shafts and I think it will be cool to play them together.

 

When I got them home, I realized they had the same Lamkin grips in the same condition, so I'm thinking they came to a donation station together but were separated and sent to different stores and I ended up with both. I bought the Bullet Backs on a Saturday 50% off sale for $7 and I bought the set of woods on Senior Tuesday for $2.00 for the set, so I'm into the complete set for $9. I still need to find a 7 iron with an aluminum shaft to complete the set, but so far, its hard to complain. This set will be played and I'll get to feel how Aluminum plays.

Slightly longer length and slightly flatter lie for that year.  
 

These may have earned opening day spot in the bag.  Surprisingly fun to hit on the range.

Thats a very cool set you have there.  I'm a total sucker for interesting face treatments and this style is right up there on my favorites list.

I picked up a Mac LH2W driver, 2 and 3 wood a while back and they finally arrived today.  I have a soft spot for the LH2W's as they and I entered the world the same year.  What is interesting is the difference between the new arrival and a LH2W driver I had already.  The one on the left has been refinished at some stage in the last 61 years and is very similar in shape to SEOM M80W's.  The latest addition is the darker one on the right and is totally original.  It is very similar in shape to the 653's from the early 50's.   Also interesting that the firing pin seems a little lower and towards the heel in the M80W lookalike.

I really like the look of the RMTs, but I have rarely seen them come up for sale around here, and when I have they are usually over my budget. A full set like that is a superb find😍

I was antiquing with my wife and ran across this beauty from Callaway... The model is MF-3.  I love the long blade, no one seems to make anything like it these days. I know Callaway used steel inside their hickory looking shafts when they started, but a magnet doesn't seem to stick. It has a nice, stitched leather grip. I think it will be going in my regular bag to start the season.

Scored these off Facebook marketplace for $20.   Just got them cleaned up and couldn’t be happier.  This is my first set of Muirfields, have seen tons of positive feedback  on these over the years so pretty stoked to get them so cheap.  Can’t wait to get them regripped and to redo the inlays, and now that the weather is finally warming hopefully can get them to the range this weekend. They have DG S300 shafts which I am assuming are original.

Hogan laminated woods, 1, 3 and 4. N shafts which mean NOT for me....too stiff. I believe I've read that the N shafts were Hogan's personal spec. Also, Hot Z headcovers. I had these exact headcovers back in the 1970s.

 

My buddy won the woods at a raffle at a hickory golf event and gave them to me. The headcovers I found at a Goodwill.

I don't know if you guys remember, but I posted about the courier company losing the Slazenger Hogan Starbursts that I sold to a guy in Finland. I was gutted that they were lost and wouldn't be played by an enthusiast, but they turned up here yesterday!

 

Brexit and covid combined to screw up our exporting, and DPD said they couldn't find them, so I was very happy to see them again. 

 

I'll be taking this out for a hit after breakfast...

Just back from the field with the 8 iron. Why did I want to sell these? I don't think I've ever hit anything as solid.

I've had trouble sending stuff to Sweden. All the paperwork was correct and up to the new specs. All tariffs were paid in Stockholm but the clubs didn't get delivered.

Did DPD tell you what the problem was?

I'm sure there is an 'under-the counter' vendetta going on in EU countries targeting UK goods. Selling to the US (and reverse) is straight forward and reliable.

No, I didn't get a satisfactory answer at all. I sent through Parcel2Go, and they've just taken all contact details off their site. I'm actually still a bit annoyed with them as they owe me a refund and I appear to have no recourse

Glad they turned up! I once had a set that went AWOL in transit and eventually arrived 6 months later, long after I had given up hope!

You are teasing me as I am anxiously awaiting the chance to try my set of Starbursts which I have as 2-9 + Exploder - missing the Equaliser. Stunning irons!

Mine are just waiting on a regrip. They have tired and hard Victory grips - (looking forward to the battle to get them off!!) - but I have a "spare" set of '61 Power Thrusts with new Ben Hogan Tour Velvet grips which I hope will blow off and transfer. 

Also acquired a nice set of '63 IPT's 1,3-Exploder as a post lock down playing treat! Most with original and tacky leather grips.

Last but by no means least, a lovely set of Spalding Professionals from a very kind and esteemed member of our brotherhood!
