I'm Club Champion

I'm soooooooo happy!!!

After coming second 3 times in a row, I've finally won my Club championship by 1 shot!!!

I've lost the last three years:

by 1 shot. 2011, my playing partner holed an 8 iron and won by 1, whilst i was stuck in a hole with a 3 shot lead with 5 to play :(

by 1 shot 2012, came back from 5 down with 9 to play, only to loose by one, my 4 to his 5 on the final green :(

by 5 shots 2013. The guy outplayed me on day one and deserved to win hands down

2014: 4 shot lead on hole 28 with 8 to play. hit a great shot, wind stops and i go out of bounds long, to reload with one less, wind picks up again and I'm plugged in the front bunker for a 7 :(, three putt the next and my lead is gone. Feeling terrible

Shanked my second on 14 (I never shank it), feel suicidal now.

But come 17, guy in joint 1st hit it on the green, but with a tricky putt.;l I top it!!! but good chip to 12 foot and hole the putt whilst he three putts. I pushed the final tee shot, hit a 9 iron left but it catches the bunker lip and goes onto the green and I hole the 3 footer to win by 1.

I may never enter a competition again, because the whole experience has been so harrowing :)

But:

To all you nice guys who finish second. IT CAN HAPPEN!!!!!

Congratulations on winning. Must be a great feeling after all those years of coming so close.

Just like my son finally winning his junior club championship. He has finished 2nd or 3rd for five years in a row until he won it last year. He successfully defended it and won again this year.

It's funny, you almost convince yourself that those who say you are a loser may be right, BUT THEY ARE NOT. They are just making themselves feel better about their own failings.

Golf has so much luck inherent to the game, but we never allow for it in deciding who is a 'Winner'. If Jean Van De Velde had hit a flat bit of fence instead of an upright, he'd be a winner.

I remember before Harrington won his 1st tournament he'd come second a crazy number of times. Jack is the biggest 'loser' in major championships, with a massive 17 or so 2nd places in majors!

Many Thanks to all the people who have posted congratulations! This win is for you too !!!!!

Many Thanks Richard :)

I couldn't say I'm a better golfer than I was 4 years ago (though my short game has improved, my long game is a little worse if I'm honest).

TBH I'm getting on a bit (44) and this was probably getting towards my last chance, so I'm doubly happy.

Good luck to all those who've come close and failed, You can win!!

Richard, that was a very "Peppery" statement!

Our old coach phrased it " when preparation meets opportunity"

OP.....congratulations!

Congrats!

I won mine this weekend too. Mather Golf Club. My brain and body were absolutely fried. The nerves shot and physically around the 13th hole I was done. High temp was 100 and for some reason I walked it. I had a 3 shot lead after round one, and almost blew it in round two. Won in a three hole playoff.

I can only imagine how bad a playoff would have been. It gives me chills to even think of it!

Well done and 1st place too: Champion Ness and Champion Finalist!!!!

Congrats!

I won the Senior Club Championship in my first year at my new club a couple of weekends ago. After playing pretty poorly for most of the year, things came together for a weekend as I shot 73-71-144 to win by 2 shots.

I had won a Club Championship and a pair of Senior Club Championships at my previous club but nothing in the past three years. What you found harrowing, I found exhilarating. With a 1 shot lead on the14th tee on Sunday, I was really excited to be in the hunt. I didn't miss a shot in those final 5 holes and was able to make good decisions because I had been there before. A wedge to 3' for birdie on 16 gave me a desirable two shot cushion which made the tee shots on 17 and 18 a lot more comfortable.

In three of these four Club-level wins, I birdied the 16th hole on Sunday while either tied or leading by 1.

Would a tattoo be too much to do think :) 'Club Champ 2014' on the shoulder maybe and a little sillouette of the trophy, or am I too old for such things (I've never had a tattoo and am curious to see if it hurts as much as they say - I'm betting it doesn't :) )
I had the same thought. Lol! I'm not going to do it, but if I was into tattoos it would be already scheduled. Perhaps your scores?
