Look who's back after yet another 18 holes. Should I name her?

Lost her today, I f****** lost her.

You didn’t look hard enough!! Get back out there!

I know generally where she is but still couldn't find her. She's scared and all alone. :(

We need a search party. We’ve lost mine at the bottom of the lake, so there’s no hope there. Yours is all we have left!

you should have called Navy SEAL.

Well that's a good point. As mentioned already, she lived a long good life. We hit and missed fairways together. We hit and missed greens together. We made birdies and bogeys together (although considerably more bogeys in that example). We had a life of adventure off the tee to say the very least. Faithful and steadfast as a companion.

All good things come to an end.

A spirit medium of my acquaintance just called and asked me to pass on this message from your beloved MTB...

And I quote. "Those bogeys were all on YOU hackapotamus".

P.S. Please don't blame the messenger.

Just heard of Snell balls.

Could anyone give me idea as to what big name brand balls they compare with?

Thanks

Dean Snell helped create the Pro V1 so I'd say start right there.

Neither Snell ball is particularly like the ProV1x and the MTB Red seemed to me not very like any Titleist ball. The MTB Black is perhaps somewhat like ProV1.

They're not? Can you elaborate? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

I hate to say much because I cut my MTB Red trial short. One full round and portions of a couple others. It simply does not work for me and I thought a short tryout would have to do. Low trajectory, more spin than I need on full iron shots (the dreaded suck-back happened more than once) and shorter than most balls.

Now maybe I would have found it worked better if I’d waited a few weeks and tried again. Sometimes my game just isn’t clicking. But time after time I’d hit an AVX immediately after an MTB Red shot had come up low and short and the AVX would plop onto the green just fine.

I haven’t tried MTB Black but two different guys I have played with have tried it. One guy tried the current model and said it was fine but seemed a bit different than his usual ProV1. The other guy tried the original version and thought it was “just like a proV1”. So mixed feedback on the Black from my little circle of acquaintances but no firsthand experience.

This summer I've exclusively played the Black and the Pro V1. I really can't tell much of a difference at all. North, I don't know what kind of game you have, for all I know your a +4 and have deft touch. I'm not. I'm just a weekend warrior say take what I say with the proper perspective.

If black is similar to Pro V1, I can understand this 3600 post thread. Love the Pro V1, suits my swing, well old swing. Just got back into golf and bought some wilson soft balls, but swing is picking up fast, getting stronger in last few weeks since starting back after six year hiatus. In past used srixon Z star and Pro V1, loved both. This six dozen deal for $27/dozen is attractive assuming the Snell black is a comparable ball. Not sold near me, that I am aware of, Pinehurst,NC area shops. Will look around tomm as wife and I are practicing. Will pick up a sleeve if I see them. Thanks for the insights.

You'll probably need to order online. Very limited, if any, distribution via brick n mortar.

I’m a short hitting bogey golfer with a yippy chipper and a two-way miss with my irons. That’s why I seldom volunteer much opinion on what I think I see unless I can really try a ball side by side with my usual favorites as well as play the new ball by itself for several full rounds.

But you did ask...

Lol, fair enough buddy.

Try the black if you get a chance. I was shocked at how much softer it felt off the driver compared to the original.

Yes, there is that.

Although on tee shots it is truly uncanny how often I can hit the same tree, 40 yards right of where I'm aiming, with two balls in a row.

It may well be the age of the guys I play with, senior leagues, but after over a year playing Snell MTB's - I have yet to find a single player who's ever heard of Snell. Even the avid single digit HI guys. I get a puzzled look and question every time another player ID's my ball. The direct model is preferable to me, but I'm afraid many of the old fuds I play with will never get on board - they'll be brick-n-mortar buyers until they can't anymore.

It's the exact same way with me and I'm 32. At my CC - I play with tons of different guys in the men's club and not ONE has heard of Snell. They give me a funny look when they ID my ball. I don't care. I just take their money :)

It seems to be old news but hopefully useful for some.

Recently, I got MTB Black, MTB Red and Get Some. So I put them on test against each other and other brand balls.

First I did the bounce test on (smooth) concrete garage floor. Pinnacle Soft the softest then moving right. Cally Chrome+ the hardest

Then I did very extensive putting test. Pinnacle Soft the softest then moving right. Cally Chrome+ the hardest.

What surprised me was MTB Red is the softest feel off putter and original MTB the hardest among Snell product line. FYI, my putter is SC Futura X. Head-to-head driver, iron and wedge tests are to come soon.

I am a habitual experimenter with golf balls. I fall for every new thing that comes out. I am basically the guy who thinks every prospect my beloved Reds have is the one to bring back the Big Red Machine. If you are selling hope, I am buying! That said I am now a month straight (which may be a record!) of exclusively playing the MTB Black and maybe (but probably not) I am done with searching. It doesn't right the wrongs, no ball does it turns out. What is does, it exactly what I would expect on a shot. Consistent, durable, and versatile. And as a small business owner, I must admit I like the ability to support another little guy.

I’ve been playing MTB’s since early 2017, and I don’t see any reason I’d go back to Pro V1’s even though I played Titleists my entire golf life. Started with the original MTB, now the MTB Black. The Reds were fine, but too much spin on lofted approach shots for me - but they’d be just the ticket for someone who can’t stop whatever they’re playing now.

I still have over a dozen of the original MTB's. I am almost trying to lose them and taking them out of play with the slightest blemish or sign of use so I can get through them and move to the MTB Black. I can basically get the Callaway Chrome Soft for free but would rather pay for and play the MTB Black.

I have been playing the MTB Red for a few weeks now. If you need crazy, at times unruly, spin...this is your ball!

Finally out the MTB Red (yellow) in play in a rain soaked course in NH yesterday. I was extremely impressed with it. I don’t know what I could really compare it to in terms of feel or spin but it brought back memories of the chromesoft truvis ‘17, Nike razn tour platinum, and maybe a Vice Pro+ but softer. It’s definitly softer than a pro v1x and a tp5x but felt like a TP5. It’s its own thing. Very nice ball and tough tough tough to beat.

Plus, chip in birdie from the trap is always a plus haha!!!
