Big kudos to Dean and his crew. I pre-ordered a couple boxes of X's fully expecting that "shipping in early April" probably meant that it was doubtful they would arrive before my golf trip to Scottsdale on April 8th. I just got the email confirmation that they will arrive this Friday. I'm sure the team is working "wicked haaad". Nice job, Snell Golf!

I got my yellow test pack today. I won't be able to play them until this weekend.

 

From an aesthetic perspective, the Snell logo is all black and a little bolder. The side stamp of MTB BLACK is uniform in size with the arrows on either side. The side stamp of MTB-X is larger than the arrows on either side. I wish it was more in line with the MTB BLACK. The yellow is a fraction less shiny than the MTB Red yellow, perhaps due to cast urethane. Maybe this is more noticeable in daylight. The Black has a black number and the X a red number.

 

Excited to try them out.

Thanks for the note... we have been working hard all week to try to get all the pre orders shipped out this week. My team did an outstanding job this week, and we will have all orders shipped by end of the day today... true team effort and now look forward to your feedback... I need a tall Titos (maybe more than one, haha) after this week.. thanks for your patience and support... game on...

Got mine today. Did drop test in garage and they both seem to bounce similarly high. When dropping them one at a time, you can hear that MTB Black being a little softer and the X being a little harder. Hard to explain. Now to figure out which one I'll start hoarding. Likely to be the Black as I had previously did a test pack of Red/Black and preferred the Black. Just felt better and hit and stopped vs doing any unnecessary extra dancing on the green. I also prefer a slightly softer feel.

Got out for a quick 9 not a large sample size but a good first impression. I have played the red since it was released last year so my comparison is to it. The X is definitely a firmer more solid feel to off the driver. After the first drive I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but as I played and made different shot the more it grew on me, just different at first. It seems to perform like the red with the irons and wedges. Felt great off the putter, so far I like the ball and don't feel I'll miss the Red going forward. LOVE the yellow color it has a touch of green in it that makes it look great. Nice job once again Dean.

This year's yellow definitely pops compared to last year. A great improvement.

 

One nitpick: I wish the side stamp went along the seam.

I think I’ll wait til the weekend is over and see some more reviews, then maybe order a couple dozen. So c’mon guys, get out and play them this weekend (and write a review)!

Also, if anyone has time wouldn’t mind seeing a picture of the new on next to an old one to show the color difference.

I played nine yesterday with the new ERC Soft and the back nine with the new Mizuno ball. It confirmed to me that I’ll be ordering some more Snells.

Played with the MTB-X this morning and my only regret is that I still have a half dozen MTB, nine MTB-Red and three dozen MTB-Black. There is no way I'm going to be able to explain to "she who must be obeyed" why I need four dozen more balls considering my current inventory.

I played the Black and the X (both yellow) today. I played two balls on several holes - one Black and one X.

 

First impressions:

1) I love the yellow!

2) Black was longer off the driver by 5 yards or so. When I demoed the red vs black last year, the red was 10 yards or more behind the black for me, so the X is a definite improvement.

3) Both feel great, with the X feeling slightly firmer.

4) Both performed well in the wind.

5) X seems to spin a little more on short irons.

6) Durability was excellent on both.
