So the red is gone and the x is in?

Man, I’m too old, grumpy, and set in my ways to deal with a change that drastic. I just figured out how to label my Red (in yellow).

you wont be disappointed... tomorrow we will launch for pre-sale of all new models...only downside is that delivery from factory was delayed, so the pre-order will start tomor, then shipments will be first week of April.. original plan was ship first week of March.. but we have been delayed a bit on shipment, but we have done all the testing, and the products are very good...

Looking forward to the new X, until then I guess I'll take advantage of the discount on the Red and grab a couple more dozen. RIP red great ball, I'm guessing by mid April I will have forgotten all about the red...

Interesting...loved the Red, really zero issues with it.

MTB-X = $33 (5 dozen = $28/per dozen)

Red (now on closeout) = $27/per dozen

looks like slightly higher prices, unless buying in bulk...I guess that is progress though.

Definitely want to give these a go... I have loved the Snell offerings from the start; MTB, MTB Black. I can't wait to hear the initial reviews on them too.

My questions being a current MTB black player....

From inside 100.....flighted wedges which feels softer, and spins more?

Putter feel?

As more companies offer 4 to 5 layers, are there benefits to more layers, or not much benefit to cost ratio?

Based on my memory of what I've read....

Black is softer. Red, and likely now the X, will spin more on the full shots, but such as I remember, Dean has said the short game spin should be similar between the two models.

Layers.... in theory, more layers offers the opportunity for greater variation, more options in the design. <shrug> That said, the mere presence of extra layers doesn't necessarily mean anything specific in performance.

thanks for the initial interest.. if you have not signed up for our emails, please go to the site and and register.. we will be sending out a small launch video at noon today (east coast time) that will help explain a bit more, then we also have some other videos and blogs that will be on the site to help explain as well....this MTB X ball is long... driver speed is max'd out and we cannot make anything faster.. we had some minor issues with the TPU cover on RED, and needed a 4th layer to help with the spin ratios needed from driver to wedge.. this caused some players to have nice iron spin, but also alittle too high on the driver spin.. so I fixed that.. MTB X will be firmer feel than Black, have higher approach shot spin into the greens, and we used a thicker mantle and softer core to LOWER the driver spin, making if faster in speed, and LONGER than MTB RED... my only disappointment is that the factory has been delayed and we cannot ship the balls til they get here first week of April... but sign up for our emails, and you will get a video alittle later today with some explanations that may help. .thanks again... game on.... let it develop...

So MTB X is basically similar to the Black off tee but spins more on irons/wedges and feels a little firmer?

Dean, would you be kind enough to address the question of layers? Meaning more layers and how it benefits or detracts from a ball design. I believe the common perception is more layers equals superior performance or higher quality ball. Thanks, BB

Sure.. layers are used to help obtain the performance you are looking to achieve... when we developed the MTB RED, it was using a Thermoplastic urethane cover (TPU).. this is injection molded cover, and typically means that it needs to be thicker in design... our goal was to get the ball firmer, and ADD spin to the approach shots... so, with the thicker TPU cover, we needed to add another layers to help keep the speed of the ball up, and also help maintain the spin desired for ALL shots.. this thicker TPU cover is very slow in speed, and adds a lot of spin to the ball.. so the added 4th layer helped bring back lost speed, and also helped control the spin... what we did see is that the spin was still a bit high on DRIVERS for some players... so we went back to the cast thermoset cover (which is much thinner).. we also made the mantle thicker on X versus Black (so this adds the extra speed), and made the core lower in compression (so this lowers the DRIVER spin).. the end result is we are able to achieve the total performance we are looking for by using this cast urethane cover.. there is no need to add another layer to meet this performance... hope this helps..

So is the decision process going to be about as simple as: "Are your balls rolling out too much? Pick X. If not, pick Black."?

Titleist TSi3 8° - HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX 60TX

Titleist TS3 15° - HZRDUS Black (Hand Crafted) 70TX

Titleist 818 H2 19° - Tensei Pro White 100TX

Ping i200 - SteelFiber i125x

Edison - SteelFiber i125s

LAB DF 2.1 Armlock - LAGP

Just saw the announcement of the new MTB Black and MTB X balls. Been using the MTB since it first came out and haven't yet found another ball that is as good or at a better value. Can't wait to try the new balls this spring. Terrific video as well that explains the ball technology very clearly and makes selecting a new ball pretty easy. Can't beat the value and quality from Snell and see no reason to spend all the extra money on Titliest or TM balls and great to support a MA company too. Keep up the great work and look forward to my next order and the personal thank you note from Dean very soon. Is there going to be a new My Sum ball coming out this spring as well. Another great ball for shoulder season weather.
