SNELL GOLF BALLS??? anyone???

Recommended Posts

I have no less than 4 different balls in the line up. Snell being one of them.

The only one I regret a little is last years version on the TP. Either way they were cheap in an ammo box so they will get used on those bad days

Cobra F7+ - Stiff
Callaway V-Series 3 & 5 wood with Aldila Rouge Silver
Srixon 585 5-AW - Modus 105 Stiff
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 53 & 58 Degree
EVNROLL ER5
Srixon XV - Yellow

Break81, what are you regretting about the '16 TP? That one has just entered my rotation. It feels really close to the Snell to me.

Right now I am back and forth with Snell, Vice Soft, and '16 TM TP.

I use the U6s at a local free course that has a rough that tends to make balls disappear.

The TP 16' is a good ball, but I think it can magnify my misses (more my occasion hook). Even with a mid-iron, I feel shots I could get away with say the XV, I miss the green with the TP. Could all be mental.

It probably spins the most for my on any ball in my rotation which also can be hard to attack back pin locations on soft greens. The ball sucks back like crazy! Don't get me wrong, it's a great ball especially for $20 a dozen , but I probably am more suited for the TPX.

for me the Snell it a perfect combo of 2015 ProV1 and Prov1X. It's not as soft feeling as the TP , at least that is how my perception of it is. I know feel is very subjective. Usually when I refer to softness , it's the cover and not necessarily the compression.

Agreed. That's why it's laughable to me when guys are requesting an "85 compression" ball. Lucky (or not?) for me, I don't get that kind of spin in my short game for me to notice the TP spinning back too much. If i'm 25 yards away from the pin, I'm just trying to land it 5 yards short for a little hop and trickle.

I started the year with the 16 TPX vs Snell, but the Snell quickly grabbed me with the driver. I would hit a decent feeling drive with the Snell, and then hit what I thought was a huge bomb with the TPX. Walk down the fairway to find the Snell was ALWAYS longer. I know, I know..don't choose a ball based on the driver, but when you can get a really good feel around the green for either ball, I am choosing the distance whether I need it or not.

Perhaps the TPX simply makes a louder "bomb" sound that fools you into thinking you hit it flush.

I have the opposite problems with really low compression Surlyn balls like the Supersoft. Sometimes I could swear I struck an iron shot perfectly and it came up 5-6 yards short. After a while I started checking my divots and the impact mark on the clubface. Those shots "felt" (i.e. sounded) perfect but were in reality a bit toward the toe or a bit steep, which is why they came up short.

It's very hard to compare very different sounding balls during a round of golf for that reason IMHO.

Saw a few Snells MTB and GET SUMS in Bethel, Maine this past weekend. All good things coming from those guys.

Were you up at Sunday River? Watch out for those tics!

I didn't. I heard that is an incredible course, however!

There were tics in Bethel but, I didn't manage to find any on me, thankfully. I live in San Diego now so, little to no tics out here too.

Gotcha - was wondering where you saw the balls :)

I used to live across the border in Quebec and Bethel is one of my favorite New England towns.

I see myself coming back a while to play golf. There actually is a little bit to do in the town.

It's funny though. Probably without this thread, I wouldn't have found Snell. Amazing ball for the price.

I'm one of those weird guys that likes to play the yellow golf balls. Guess I'll have to wait for the MTB in Optic Yellow before trying it out.

1+. I like matte finish better.

100% but I'd take the polished finish if its all they had. Snell if you're reading this please go with some matte finishes!

Yellow (or other colors) used with a urethane cover is an expensive process, and the percentage of golfers wanting to use a colored ball is minimal. Don't expect a colored ball in the MTB. Don't see colored ProV's either. That's why. There are manufacturers that do this, but the majority of us want Snell to keep the costs down for such a great ball already!!

Color MTB is rather a wish, knowing the fact of additional expense... who knows? wish may come true.

BTW, you will be surprised and may not agree that color balls are getting super popular.

I wouldn't say that they're getting super popular. I agree that they are getting more popular but it is still rare that I see anyone playing coloured balls. Maybe a little more popular in the fall months. Up here anyway.

For my own curiosity what makes the process more costly? Since I know nothing about ball manufacturing in my mind I'm seeing a couple guys in lab coats and glasses pouring yellow pellets into a giant hopper full of liquid urethane.

In previous thread, Dean explained about the ball manufacturing process and color ball as luxury. That's how I got to know.

Regardless of cost I still say there are guys in there walking around in lab coats.

I agree for Snell it may not make sense, but with B330-RX, Srixon Z & XV, and also Chrome Soft in yellow, it's doable if the volume is there.

Curious, how does Callaway make the Red, Pink and now Green Truvis on a Urethane ball? Is it the same expensive process? Not being argumentative, just really curious.
