i shot a 2 over 73 at this course from the tips

https://www.lakeridgegolf.com/

I hit 14 greens and only missed two fairways. the greens I missed were mostly par threes. the course is not long except the par 3. One is 235 from the tips. i had 2 double boogies round killers on par threes. Otherwise a very solid ball striking round.

Today I shot my lowest round ever!

A +3 75 at Miramar Memorial Golf Course in San Diego. My previous best was a 79 at a similar course in the area, but that was 5 months ago, and I haven't shot below 83 in the 8 rounds since then. I've grooved my full swing into a half decent move over the last year. Driving was a weakness in the past but I've really found something from moving to the 910D3/BB6x setup. I love to play a fade and it was automatic today after the 3rd hole.

Iron play is my strength, and it really helped carry the round today. On the first hole after a low rope hook, I had 184 to the center from the left rough. Trees called for a low fade underneath and a bounce up to the green if it got lucky enough. I took the 200 club and made a 3/4 swing with a weak grip, and I'll be damned, low fading runner that settled 7 feet from the cup. Made the putt for bird and walked off thinking wow, that's how you get a round going.

My 125 & in game has honestly really sucked lately. My group knows to go to me if they need to know how to make bogey from the middle of the fairway. Today was better for sure, but I still missed some greens with a wedge in my hand that would have allowed for less scrambling. And what incredible (for me) scrambling it was. I only hit 9 greens in reg today, and of the 9 that I missed, I got up and down for par five times.

Putting has historically been what keeps me shooting in the mid 80s. I make Dustin Johnson at the U.S. Open look like a genius. After becoming fed up with short misses, I made the switch to a Yes! Dawn blade with a Superstroke 2.0 slim, hoping to steady the hands with a bigger grip and heavier head. I also did some reading and started putting while looking at the hole. I noticed better results last weekend, but today was on another level. I made every putt inside of 4 feet, and there were quite a few. I strongly encourage anyone struggling with the flat stick to try this method.

My scoring breakdown was 1 birdie, 4 bogies and 13 pars. Par 5s yielded 2 of the bogies, both products of going for the green in 2. I usually don't have a problem with 3 wood and hybrid, but they just weren't there for me today. The other 2 came on par 4s, where I failed to get up and down out of a downhill lie in a thin bunker and off a tight lie left of the green.

But the real reason I went so low (if you're not bored to tears by now) had nothing to do with shot selection, or putting, or anything physical at all. It was how I kept score. I read something online last week about breaking the round into 6 3-hole sides vice 2 9-hole sides. The thought is it keeps you aggressive since you have to try to beat the cumulative score on the previous 3 holes. Whoever thought of this is brilliant. I stayed in "the zone" and never lost focus because of this way of thinking, and I'll never play another round the "old" way again.

Apologies for the article-esque post, just wanted to share some stuff that helped me play out of my mind this morning. I don't keep an index, but if I did it would be somewhere around 12-15. Having a wife and 2 small children, I don't get to practice very much, and am lucky to get in 1-2 rounds a month. Today was a very special chapter in my golfing life, and shows that just about anything is possible if you commit to it. Cheers! ??⛳️?

76 Saturday. Crazy round, fought the swing all day. Had all the shots, hooks, slices, pushes, chunks.

38 front side included an OB on a hole I don't think I've hit it out on in two years.

38 front side included a double on one of the simplest holes on the course and a triple on the #18 handicap hole. You work so hard to make your birdies only to give them back on one hole.

Played 9 this afternoon before the rain. Start was a bit shaky. Definitely had trouble inside 30 yards.

Hole : 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9
Pars : 4 / 4 / 4 / 5 / 4 / 4 / 4 / 3 / 3
Score: 5 / 6 / 5 / 7 / 5 / 4 / 4 / 2 / 5
Putts: 1 / 1 / 1 / 2 / 2 / 2 / 2 / 1 / 2

43 (+8)
14 putts
1 OB (2nd hole)
1/7 fairways

Played 9 as a sub for league tonight. Shot 49, +13 over par. Started off the first hole with 2 drives OB for a damn 9 on a par 4, but up side was I par'd 2 holes and scrambled enough to win the match by a stroke. Had 18 putts for the 9 holes. If it weren't for that first hole could have had my lowest 9 of the summer, but none the less I am feeling more confidence about my game and scores are dropping.

A very sloppy 76 that featured a balky driver and some easy up-and-downs that I tossed and turned into bogeys. Best shot of the day was a 23* hybrid on a par 3 playing 212 to a back pin.I hit it on the button and the ball skirted the hole but somehow ran through the green into a back bunker. I had a perfect lie on an upslope and rather than scaring the hole, i half-bladed it to 40' and had to work hard for bogey.

94 today. After posting a few scores in the 80's, this was a bit of a step back. All things considered, this was a course that demanded placement. And to be honest, it's not my strength. Five lost balls. But a solid takeaway was throwing the lob wedge back in my bag, and I gave it all the short game work sans the putting. Very happy to have the control like that from 60 and in.

high 80s, one lost ball automatic 7 for an 87, entered 86 for the cap cause I tripled a 5.

While that wasn't legendary, it was the first really satisfactory round I've had in a while. I had 3 bad holes that bloated my score and a 3 putt bogey from 12 feet that I feel was more or less the direct result of having "words" with the group behind us lol. But I was definitely firing on all cylinders. Didn't hook any long irons off of the tee, even if they weren't striped, they were solid and got out there down the middle. a hand full of really great shots from around 175, and reasonable short irons even if I thinned a couple of them.

The good news is I can and have played better in some areas and It wasn't like I smoked in one part of the game to make up for helplessness in another. A very well rounded round for me, which is still sort of new territory.

Most notably though, was that with the "new" swing I took to the course, I am starting to get the kind of confidence with the mid and short irons that I feel I've had before. This time around I am threatening to fold in a matching long game as well.

I still never quite hooked up the "A" swing, but lot's of good shots. If I keep on this path I should get into the low 80s without having to go back to the shed and look at what there is to improve on.

Played the daily double at Bowe's Creek yesterday at Elgin, IL.

93 in the morning round going 51-42.
80 in the afternoon round going 41-39. doubled the last hole to miss breaking 80 and, no, i was not aware of my score on the 18th tee. i drove it into a deep bunker, pitched out short, missed the green into deep rough, chopped out and 2-putted. When i added it up i was so bummed. Should have just hit my 16 degree hybrid off the tee. Oh well.

Drove it well instituting a nice little gravity drop into the slot and loose arms/oily wrists.

89 at a first time course for me in Acushnet. 42 on the back was a round changer, just got the hot hand. It's funny, the course is high trees on the front 11, but the last seven holes feature a links style, something I was able to convert on for a string of pars. Lots of time in the bunkers today but did well enough to save par or bogey a few times. A rough 47 on the front but finished with a birdie on a 501 yd. par 5 :D

Overall, satisfied and pleased with a few kinks to iron out at the range.

Played last Saturday at Bonita National in Bonita Springs, FL. It is just north of Naples. I shot a 3 over 75. Had a double after I caught a chip thin and bladed it to just off the other side of the green. I had 1 penalty stroke but scrambled for a bogey on that hole. I had 3 other bogeys also just because i missed a few greens and failed to get up and down on those occasions, but had 3 birdies to essentially take those 3 off the card. I left a lot of putts within 3" of the hole, they just were not falling that day. Played from the blues, it was 6,549.

Score - 75
Putts - 34
Fairs - 11/14
Girs - 13/18

90 on a par 54 (par 3 18 hole). Yesterday shot a 54 on the front 9 so shooting a 46 and a 44 (front and back respectively) makes me very happy. Yesterday I pared my first hole. Today I made par twice and a few bogie's (which I strive for) hopefully in three years I'll be able to shoot a 90 on a par 72 :)

What improved my game was teaching myself how to atleast make decent contact on 90% of chip shots. Was struggling with 3 foot ground skimmers when trying to chip. I hit more greens off the tee today. Now this score is not pga official. I took a Mulligan on 2 tee shots where I shanked it and made a dumb mistake. Just teed it back up. I dropped a stroke for a water and a lost ball although I just drop a ball near where my stroke penalty occurred.

The hydraulics went out on my dump truck today. Had nothing better to do, so I went over the the course to see who was hanging out. Ended up playing my third 9 hole round in the past year and a half with two of the local hooligans. Lost both side bets with a 41 for the 9, but had had a great time with old pals.

I was pretty happy overall with my score, but the numbers really didn't matter. I had a good time throwing digs and jabs, and having them thrown back at me again. ;)

I played one of my worst 9's this evening in a long time. Things started off so badly and continued that way that I never even wrote down a score on any of the holes. If you'd have been with me, you'd have thought I was just learning to play. On the bright side: Beautiful evening, pleasant company, and the course wasn't crowded and had dried out from the record rainfall we've had recently.
