What Did You Shoot Today? (Continuation)

Anyone who has read any of my other threads will know I have struggled big time this year, making grip changes, trying to shorten back swing, messing about with driver lengths, swing weight etc.

Finally had enough a few weeks ago and picked up a Stock 9.5 AB driver and played 9 holes just concentrating on set up and a little forward press to get me going and then forget about the rest, if I overswing or anything else I just did not care any more, just wanted golf to be fun again after 8 months of not being able to break 100 or score more than 25 points!
Shot 22 points for that 9 holes, then shot 38 points in the Comp on Sunday and came 2nd.
Then shot 31 points the following week, followed by a 105 gross in the Medal last weekend (just accepted it was one of them weeks and enjoyed the walk) Went out Sat just gone and shot 84 net 66 in a Medal Trophy, I was leading until I got beat by a net 65 and 64 from the last two groups!
Still 12 over gross, cut back to 16.2 and the 1st time I have played like I know I can in a loooong time.
7 Pars, 1 Birdy, 7 bogies and 3 doubles.

Shot a 52 for nine holes. I'm nothing if not consistent, always ending up in the low 50's (50-51-52-51-52 in my last five outings). If I could figure out how to pitch and chip and quit hitting the ball OB on one hole at my home course I'd be okay. I did get my first-ever birdie on the last hole, though, after playing for more than a decade and it was kinda funny because I was wearing a golf shirt of the same color as a high school match, so I got a little bit of a roar from some older people around the green since they thought I was playing in the match.

Eighty-elfin-four, to fade further into the sunset in course championship. (It's cute how my ipad auto correct inserted "elfin", so I left it).

Good news noted today, since knee surgery about a year ago, can crouch/squat behind ball and survey putts, something I haven't been able to do for an entire summer since 2012. Bad news, should have had eyes fixed based on what I thought I was seeing.

I've got the rest of summer and fall to start working on what I know I need to work on from Monte. It is so hard to abandon the lifeboat of my flawed but usually playable swing that I seem to revert to. And hard to overcome personal inertia and actually take the time to video what I'm working on. Pretty much now or never.

In the same boat here after KC. Actually shot 39 tonight while focused on shortening my swing(5 fairways, 4 GIR, 15 putts on aerated greens). Swing probably still not so short but managed to par the last 5 holes. Dropped one in water on one hole but saved a double. So seven pars, 3 putt bogey and the double. Seems like my misses are more playable. Hit some nice shots around the green using Monte's method. Feels like things are moving in the right direction.

Good luck the rest of the year before the cold gets here!

Great to hear that and thanks.

Range time tomorrow after work and study the notes - should be a fun Fall.

79 (+7) yesterday: 7 GIR, 3 FIR, 3 birdies, 2 dubs, 29 putts. The birdies and putts were above average, everything else was a disaster. Drove it into troublesome positions on 7 of 14 driving holes; I always seem to catch the worst possible luck in these situations, too (blocked out by the skinniest saplings, backswing affected by a tree, etc).

Yesterday another 90+ outing. 91 with 6 3 putts. 3 2 putt knee knockers with first putt inside 6 foot or less. And only 2 1 putts. Going to a counterbalance putter. Putting is atrocious. I did win 5 dollars for a birdie. 5 GIR not good. 1 birdie and 1 par save. Yes I thee putted 4 times on greens I hit in reg.

This morning shot a horrific 90. Front 9 was a +3 38, then we made the turn. Buried a ball in hard wet sand green side and ended up with double. Then the wheels fell off and my next 4 tee shots ended up OB. Followed my 38 front with a 52 on the back.

This afternoon was much more generic with a +12 82 (40/42).

+1 73 yesterday, 2 doubles, 2 bogies and 5 birdies. 11 GIR, and 9/14 fairways. 1st double was bad block right OB. Second was buried in waste area, with a nice recovery to the fairway, then airmailed a wedge just past a back pin, and chip and 2 putt. Really didn't hit a bad shot on the hole! The next hole made par on a par 4 without hitting a good shot. Bad drive, blocked 8 iron right of the green, mediocre chip 15 feet short, but made the putt. Crazy game.

Shot my all-time best 84 with 10 pars 4 bogeys, 4 doubles! Just switched to some more forgiving irons (I was the idiot that played more players irons) and my greens in regulation shot up! I did burn some edges on some birdie puts but an even 42 front/42 back with a couple balls OB. As with almost every round, there are plenty of spots for improvement and mine is going to be mostly off the tee and putting.

This was my lowest by 5 strokes and calculated to a -2.7 differential for handicap purposes. Probably statistically more unlikely than a hole in one that a 10 index shoots a 69 but I'll take it and learn many lessons from the experience. Was +2 after four holes and went eagle, birdie, birdie, par, birdie to get things turned around on the front.

Lipped out a 5 foot par putt on 18 after short siding myself from out of a hazard.

Shout out to Monte and AimPoint (courtesy of Marty Nowicki) for the quality instruction to make this happen.

Goal was to be a 5 index by the end of October. A few more rounds even close to this and I'll get there. I never thought I'd break 70...ever.

I am a 14 cap, managed to shoot 76 yesterday (had never broken 80), personal best by 5 strokes. Played white tees at Quail Ridge in Ada, MI. Went 39-37 with 11 pars, 2 birdies, 4 bogeys, and a double. Took 2 penalty strokes along the way, with 30 putts. I have been playing a lot of 9 hole rounds at night this summer and have been shooting a lot of 40-41 scores. I have fixed my inside takeaway this summer with the Faldo drill, seeing much more consistent play, particularly with my driver. Swing thought yesterday was about keeping my rear in the same place, Dennis Clark's article on wrx made me realize this has been a fault.

Broke 90 three weeks ago and I have been struggling to get back down there. 93, 94, 92, 96... One complete melt down on a 188 yard par three today (shot a 6 on the one hole) kept me from it today. It's been an odd chase, but they aerated the greens at my home course two weeks ago and they're still recovering. I'll keep the blame there for at least one more week. :-)
