Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Lake Bluff tomorrow afternoon at 1. Anyone been out there yet this year?

Probably one of the more underrated courses we post about here. Good price, always in good shape and very fast greens for a muni. Definitely the best muni on the North Shore which is pretty much a "Tallest Midget" award.

Not yet. Interested to hear a report back since Billy Casper now runs the course.

BC does the management services for pro shop, range and food/bev. Park district will still manage maintenance.

So I don't really know what to expect out there.

Big fan of Billy the golfer. Not a fan of Billy Casper the management company.

Fun morning/early afternoon at Mistwood. Wound up playing the black tees (had a 22 handicapper in the group) so "no tips for you". Shot 75 (36 39) with 3 3 putts and a double on 17?. Greens were in great shape and quick - if you were above the hole, good luck! Highlight? Birdied all 4 par 5s, probably first time ever.

Stan didn't you put new irons in the bag?

Yup! They have been in the bag since Florida trip in early March. The 4i has been used as much as the driver off the tee. $$$$.

You do look a bit like Jason Day.

More like love child of Jason Day and John Daly....

So I take it that's the end of the bag of complimentary warm up balls.

Not a fan of Billy Casper, good to hear they aren't doing the maintenance. Hopefully they keep the greens fast and smooth.

Just moved back to Chicago from Atlanta. Playing Klein Creek tomorrow. I know they don't have a range, but do they have a net to warm up into at least?

St Andrews is 5 minutes away. I'd warm up there.

Been there a few times already. Great range, but I don't have the time to stop over before playing.

Well, that's more like it. A pleasant day on the links, although it was a bit cooler and windier than predicted. Harborside Port was in fine shape. The greens have healed from last month's aeration. Pace of play was acceptable at 4:10.

The Port course always gets me scratching my head. I feel you can hit the ball off the tee fairly well, and still wind up in trouble. I believe I found more fairway bunkers today that fairways. However, my irons were spot on today, and I still managed 12 greens with only 6 fairways hit. Of course, it helps to hit 4 greens on the par 3's. Three birdies helped the cause.

The best hole of the day was the par 5 2nd. With a steady headwind, I teed the ball low, and was attempting to hit a low liner. Instead, I wound up topping the ball less than 100 yards. Ugh. It didn't even make the fairway. Luckily I caught a decent lie in the rough, and nutted a 5 wood out to the 200 yard marker. Another stinger 5 wood put me 3 feet short of the green, and a chip and a putt later I had my par. 'Not the way I drew it up, but satisfying all the same.

Glencoe GC tomorrow.

Lake Bluff punched their greens and didn't bother telling anyone making a tee time. I won't be going back this year. Hope they enjoy the money they scammed from me today because that's all their getting out of me this year. Last year I played there probably 5x and also brought a 12 person outing there. I'd call that a loss for LB.

They also don't give you free range balls anymore. And to top it off, they won't let you hit off the perfectly fine grass and instead have really bad mats.

Too bad cause other than that the course was in great shape. Greens actually moved fast despite the holes, but good luck keeping it on line. Played really well, but putted terribly and put 3 drives OB on the back. 4 GIR to start the round and was +2 to show for it. Ended up with an 84, felt like I gave 9 shots away out there.

Playing with the wife tomorrow afternoon, not sure where yet.

Another pleasant day out at Glencoe. The course is in great shape. Downhill putts are quite speedy, but you still have to goose the uphill ones. Pace was spot on at 4 hours.

I had a great round of even par going until the 16th hole, with 3 birdies and 3 scrambles up to that point. My driving was spotty at best, so I was more than pleased with the score. Of course, I duck hook my tee shot on 16 into the pond, and wind up with a double. On 17, I duck hook another one into the thick rough on the left, and wind up making bogie. Ugh. I was a little steamed on 18, and nutted the best drive of the day, sailing a big draw over that d*mn tree on the right of the teebox. 'Hate that tree. A nice 5 wood, and a short wedge gave me a fairly easy birdie, so at least I capped it off on a high note.

Heritage Bluffs this morning. Course was in excellent condition. Short game was not so good. Greens were true and probably running 9-10. Lots of fairways. Lots of greens. And yet also lots of others. Tough day.

Navy course / willow something (hill or glen) this am. Started horrible but started to piece a few things together towards the end of the round.

It was good to get out for the morning. The weather is phenomenal right now. Next couple days looks like rain so I'm going to watch my grass try to grow.

Played Stonewall Orchard today. Holy crap were the greens fast! Being my first round of the year, it was a tough day.

I'll second that. Greens were crazy fast. I couldn't get anything close all day.

Course was in great shape, greens a little sandy, but lightning quick. Didn't hold anything though.

I was randomly paired up with a relative of Louie Oustheizen (sp). Guy and his son. The dad looked just like Louie. Cool guys, we had a good time.

Glencoe tomorrow afternoon.

Was at HB this morning as well and agree with everything above. Course was in awesome condition. Greens were running very fast and if you missed small around the greens it ended up being a big miss.

Played Blackstone yesterday. The course is in great condition and playing VERY fast. The greens are really firm and quick but they will hold shots. We teed off at 11:15 and were enjoying an ice cold cerveza by 2:45. Only waited once and that was on the 17th tee which was awesome.

Nice! I need to get out there, never played Blackstone.

Worth it from downtown Chicago?

Absolutely. It takes me 70 minutes from SW Naperhell and is 100% worth it. The range is nothing to brag about but spend 10 minutes on the practice green as that will prepare you for what you're going to experience.
