Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Bear and I braved the elements and walked 36 holes at Washington County today. They didn't get quite as much rain yesterday as the Chicago area got and, with the Packers playing at noon and high winds in the forecast, we weren't planning on seeing too many people on the course. Bear's MP-18 SC's came in on Friday and he was itching to hit them and I'm always down for a couple of rounds regardless of the weather so we took advantage. Throughout the first 14 holes, conditions were as bad as I've ever played in, with consistent rain and 30-35 mph winds. Eventually, the rain stopped and the sun peeked out, but the wind never really died down. Needles to say, it was not exactly optimal scoring conditions. I hit the ball well enough to shoot in the mid-70s but the best I could manage was an 81 for round one and a 79 for round two. The seventh and 13th holes both felt like they were playing about 650 yards since they were right into the Northwest wind. For the second 18, the high winds dried out the greens and they were rolling at about an 11. The course itself was in excellent shape.

Nice. I'm big Wash Co fan. My in laws live close, so I get there 6ish times a year.

Well done breaking 80 in those conditions. If 7 and 13 are into the wind, tee shot on 9 had to be tough?

It was tough, had to bail out to the left side of the fairway. The usual high fade wasn't an option, but at least the second shot on 9 was down wind.

The conditions for Round 1 were as challenging as I've played in. I shot 85 and I would consider that to be one of my better rounds this year. I knew it was going to be rough when #5, the short 4, was playing three full shots into the green.

And, the course was in great shape considering the rain. Soft, but really no standing water. Greens were extremely smooth and picked up pace as the wind dried them out. Putting was difficult all day.

I thought we would be the only fools playing, but I was surprised by the number of groups out there.

I think a few Packers' fans saw Aaron Rodgers go down and figured since they're season was pretty much lost at that point, they might as well get some golf in.

Weather wise, that was the worst I can remember in some time. I was going to head out for an early Sunday round, but my trees looked like they were going to blow over. Didn't even bother to leave the driveway.

Fun round at Bridges of Poplar Creek. Shot 78 and played in under 3 hours. Neat little course in good shape with fairly firm, smooth, and fast greens despite the rain. First time playing it, but I'll be back.

sounds like you got lucky. Bridges is usually a death march. I would be very hesitant to rush back there.

Call the Preserve first to see how they're doing, that was a lot of rain water.

Yeah, good call. Just tried calling but no answer. I'll try again tomorrow...

Yeah, good call. Just tried calling but no answer. I'll try again tomorrow...

V was out there earlier this year after a heavy downpour like we had and it wasn't good. With this being the preview season, I'd be surprised if they'd let anyone on it until the majority of the water was gone.

It’s usually a slow round there. Cheap rates + super close to 90 + good layout with lots of scoring holes + good greens = 5 hour round if the weather is good. Just basic math. Maybe it’ll be quicker in the Fall.

This is an understatement. A lot of water to me stops at around 4 inches of rain. This area was in the 6-8inch band.

We're heading to Bloomington to play Prairie Vista and The Den at Fox Creek on Saturday. They punched about a month ago so putting should be fine. I like the layouts of those two courses a lot but driving to Bloomington isn't something I do on a regular basis. That said, Bear and I haven't been down there all year and, at $22 per round, they certainly won't charge us a lot.

Weather permitting, playing (hopefully not a beat down) Big Run.

Played BR today instead of Wed, Shot a mediocre 95 which for me was not that bad given I can count on 10 more strokes at BR versus other courses I usually play. Parred the 18th which I'm pretty sure was a first for me.

... We seem to be in the same area and play similar courses. If you ever wanna get out in the afternoon and play Prairie Bluff just let me know.

Sounds like a plan. You and I met before (remember selling those snake eyes irons?). My buddy still plays them. Love playing PR - it's a tad easier than BR :taunt:

The things you see when you travel... so are all you guys used to having Urlacher stare at you - with a head full of pubes - from the various toll highways?

I think it put me off my first round at SV, there must have been a good dozen of them! :taunt:

Urlacher has been restored with doll hair and now so has Ryne Sandberg. I’m wondering who the next bald Chicago athlete will be that endorses Katona. Maybe Paul Konerko.

Green Garden - yay or nay? Will be in Manhattan in the morning and might be able to squeeze a round in.

There are three courses there. Played the Blue course yesterday morning. Its nothing fancy from a design standpoint. It was in decent shape though. Greens were in good shape but rolled slow. The course is still soft from all the rain. It was playing long from the blues.

Took the day off to enjoy the weather today and got out and played 18 at Arrowhead. We went West to South since the East 9 was closed for aerification so I have yet to see that 9. My game was very up and down, started off great through 7 holes and things fell apart a bit after that with some good stuff sprinkled into the mix. Hard to have much expectations since this is only my 4th round since I hurt my hand early in July. I'm looking to get out Saturday somewhere, I'm probably gonna try to sneak a few more rounds in and hang it up for the year, it's hard to get excited about playing when I haven't practiced or played much. We'll be looking within about 20 minutes of the Bolingbrook/Naperville area for Saturday, any places that recently punched to avoid?

... After playing in tornado like winds the last week or so I played Prairie Bluff today and knew it would be a good day when I saw the wind sock across the street hanging down like it ran out of Viagra, instead of the orange traffic cone it has looked like recently. The greens are in very good condition and the course is till a little wet but al in all very good shape. Hit a 20 footer for birdie on 1, lipped out an 8 footer on 2 then birdied 3, 4 and 5. I was -4 after 5 holes and the thought entered my head that I could not only beat my PB record of 67 but also my personal best of 66. And just like that the magic was gone. 13 straight pars and missed a few birdie putts in the 15-20 ft range but just didn't have anymore really close approach shots and had to up and down several times. Funny that it felt a little disappointing and had I started with 13 straight pars and ended with birdies on 4 of the last 5 holes I would be ecstatic. Ya gotta love this game!

... Probably going back tomorrow afternoon. :black eye:

Heading up to WI tomorrow. Some of you guys have mentioned Brightondale and Spring Valley. Haven’t played either, does one stand out over other?

Brighton Dale was in rough shape when I played it on October 1st. It got better as the round progressed but the first few holes were pretty chewed up. If you're gonna play BDale I recommend getting an early time. When the weather is good, it gets crowded because it's so cheap. Spring Valley is never in very good condition. I like it every once in a while but make no mistake, it's a goat track. Brighton Dale is a much better course and there are some very nice holes there. It's a 45 hole facility and the two 18s - White Birch and Blue Spruce - are a bit different from each other. Personally, I'd recommend going a little further up 20 and playing The Broadlands. They punched a couple of weeks ago but that layout is great. You'll use every club in your bag there.

I kind of like playing courses that are on “your favorite dog track lists.” Looking at Spring Valley:)

Go for it. There's no sand-traps there and it won't be in great shape, but the greens are super interesting. And, the layout has a great variety of holes, especially the par 3s.
