"Feet." I see what you did there. Lol. Thanks. The blister on my left foot is proof that 54 in one day is something I can only do once or twice a year.

Did you change sock between rounds? I learned that less the hard way at Bandon Dunes.

Pleasant morning at Willow Crest. It appears that the rain passed to the east, as it was dry the whole morning. Heck, we even got some blue skies and the sun poked out. The course was in nice shape, although the bunkers could use more sand. The greens were actually quite speedy. I was surprised. The rough was thick, and locating balls was difficult. It had recently been cut, as there were dry grass clippings laying on top, which didn't help. I can only imagine how bad the rough was before it was cut.

A real struggle off the tee today. Try to straighten out the hook, I wound up blocking a few right. Did I say right? I mean waaaay right. Luckily each wound up in the adjacent fairway, and I could advance the ball with little difficulty. Thank goodness for six par 3's, and they helped the GIRs. Two birdies and six bogies. I'll take it.

Hawk's View in Lake Geneva this morning. The misty rain and showers completely cleared as we teed off. Great layout and the course was in excellent condition with the greens running fast and true. Much better than The Brute.

Bloomingdale Golf Club today with my league. 11:56 start with a threesome in the lead group; waited almost every shot on a foursome with a guy hacking it up from the tips (which is only about 6300), and we still got done in 4:01. At one point, they had three full holes open in front of them, but we couldn’t play through because we had 3 groups. What could have been.

Once a year is enough of that course for me. What passes for sand in the bunkers is pathetic. More like dirt, and some only had 1/4” on top of hard packed ground. The greens were slow and many had some weird breaks around the hole where the ball would snap off its path within the last 12” or so. At least the rough had been cut. We actually had several balls bounce multiple times and run out a bit in the rough.

Thanks for the recs fellas. Managed to play Ravisloe on Saturday evening. Surely, one of the best $59 in golf.

Headed to Highlands of Elgin yesterday (Blackstone had an outing). Greens in pretty good shape. Decent course overall, but no world beater. The restaurant/bar is excellendt.

Played Palatine Hills for the first time in roughly twenty years. Pleasantly surprised! Greens were spectacular. Fairways and rough were hit or miss, surely due to all the May rain. Layout is very nice as there are a mixture of holes but my goodness, hole 9 is a disaster. They need to cut the tree down or move the tee box so that you do not have overhanging trees in the direct path of the fairway. Loved the scenery for the most part; I would definitely head back to this course.

I agree with this take. HoE is fine but I don't think it is better than a lot of other options. I'd take Bowes Creek over it down the street. I liked it, but was kind of expected to be blown away with how it is talked about and wasn't.

Playing Metamora Fields this afternoon, I like what I have heard and the pictures look pretty good. I'm thinking $40 will be a pretty good deal.

It looks like you'll get some great weather. The winds will be a little tricky. Hopefully the course isn't too wet and you can get some roll out.

Thanks! I almost didn't come home until tomorrow because of the wind and wanting to play it in calm conditions, I have gotten soft. Some things came up and I decided to just suck it up and play in it.

Our company has had a league there for the last 30+ years.

Overall, I like the course, green speeds can be inconsistent, and holes 15-18 get flooded when there is lots of rain as a stormwater management measure.

Yes, 9 tee shot is BAD, lateral hazard left, so many bail out right and long (past the trees).

I think they should cut down all of the trees between 1 and 9 and make it all short grass.

Could cause some liabilty issues, but they should do something.

Sunday rain made the course slow but the greens really receptive to holding shots. With the light rain last night it should be dry by tomorrow. The greens are rolling a bit slower than normal.

I wouldn’t bank on Harborside being dry. As Argonne has pointed out before, it’s built on a clay-capped dump so it doesn’t drain all that well. Good luck though.

Played George Dunne this week and seems its recovering from all the rain. rough was actually cut except for a few spots but greens were a little shaggy and not running as true as they normally do there. overall okay condition but im sure it will improve quickly that course is usually in pretty good shape.

Make the drive to metamora fields everyone! Just finished my round the and we blown away. It played very firm and fast. To the point I had to land shots quite a bit short on anything with the wind. It isn't a links course but played like one. Extremely windy. Went driver, 3 wood, 4 iron, wedge on a par 5 next hole with the wind my drive ran through the green, and the 4 some putting 350 yards away. Oops. One of the most fun rounds I've played. Shot a 74 I was 4 over through 3 then went 2 under the rest of the way. Probably my best round ever though I've played a few under par. Sorry for the novel but that course has me pumped up.

Anyone interested in playing in a scramble with me on Friday June 28th in the afternoon at Thunderhawk? I have one other guy and am needing two more, it’s $400 for a Foresome ($100 a person) including range balls, golf, and a cocktail hour/heavy hors d’oeuvres after.

Registration starts at 11, tee times are from 1-3 (not a shotgun start) with cocktail hour starting at 5.

Here’s the post about it: https://purdue-data.imodules.com/s/1461/alumni/feature.aspx?sid=1461&gid=1022&pgid=10284&cid=26109&ecid=26109

Bear and I are heading back to Dutch Country in Pure Michigan next Monday and Tuesday. We’ve got Cedar Chase, Pilgrim’s Run, Angel’s Crossing and Diamond Springs on the itinerary. Thornapple has too many events and stupid league play. Hoping Diamond Springs can be a bit of a hidden gem. No Hemlock this time. Maybe we’ll get there in July or early August.

Diamond Springs is kind of a cool track, albeit a bit odd at times. No fairway or rough, just one cut. Has some pretty cool holes on the back along a ravine.

... I got to play Cress Creek CC on Monday with my son. What an old school, difficult golf course. Bunkers are strategically placed in almost every narrow fairway exactly where most would hit their tee shots because more than a few have a hidden bunker behind the bunker you see from the tee. 20 mph winds and greens rolling around 12 made for a very tough day playing it the first time. Difficult but fair and like a US Open, you absolutely have to keep your ball below the hole. This is a course I could play over and over and never get tired of the challenge.

Have played it a few times before and after the redo which I think was around 2010. They're on a very short list of courses that added bunkers in a redesign instead of taking them out. They might have added 30-40 bunkers if not more. I don't remember the fees to get in but they seemed pretty reasonable. For a golf course in a subdivision basically, it doesn't have the feel of playing in a subdivision.

I'm very interested in seeing how the one cut plays. In theory, I get it and see the benefit of it to both the course and the golfer.

... True dat. I drive that area all the time and I didn't even know it was there. On #12 there is a bunker guarding the right side with some room to the left. Wind into us so carrying that bunker was not possible for me and hit a really good drive splitting the fairway between the bunker and rough. Once I walked up to the landing area I realized it slopes from right to left and I didn't see my ball. So what I thought was a perfect drive ended up in the deep/thick rough on the left. So you either have to carry the bunker, hit a yard or two left of it or hit a fade back into the sloping fairway. Just a great golf hole.

Does Cress Creek allow guests to book tee times?
