irony - i had talks with a Ping fitter/rep on saturday and he flat out told me the I line (specifically woods) is going away due to the success of the G series (woods and irons).

i asked about irons, he smiled and said he couldn't tell me for sure.

If they're discontinuing the i-series woods, maybe a clean break, and create a new specific iron only with the i-e as opposed to i30 with no complimentary woods or fairways. I may be overthinking this...

As long as the new i series is clean, small/med progressive size, and feel soft - I'll be a happy camper.

accent color... like how the i25's have a red accent color and the g30's have a blue accent color. Nike vapor line has a "volt" accent

Ok that's what I was thinking about. I remember the G2-G5-i5 being blue and yes now the G30. I did own the I3+ plus and liked the color scheme a lot. I also had G10 driver and i10 irons and never really liked the orange. And yes I agree blue would be best if not black and white like the i3+. I just wanted to make sure I understood what you guys were talking about.

i5's are still legal for USGA play, national level tournaments and their qualifying excepted.

The model is the "I Iron", the version is E1, they'll use the E designator to identify which generation I model it is, like Titleist with 714 AP2, 716 AP2, etc.

So in marketing it will likely only be referred to as "I Irons" but the badge will have a tiny E1 on it.

This list seems unlikely (putting aside Ping going away from its proprietary shafts), mostly because it's hard to believe KBS Tour wouldn't be on or at the top of the list. Not only is it a shaft ping has actually made stock in recent clubs (s56 and some wedges) and it's one of pings current cheaper/volume upgrade options, but Ping seems into the whole high balance point shaft thing.

As suggested before I believe it was to clearly separate i from G since there will no longer be i woods, plus the fact that having i and G launch on alternating schedules makes tying them together numerically problematic, i25 sounds that much older compared to G30 even though they were launched only six months apart. What that means for future naming conventions for G and S I don't know.

Actually, a great many people around here do NOT understand the ramifications of the groove rule. The rule only affects a very small percentage of the players out there yet we hear all the time about "Illegal grooves".
