Vokey SM6's

Was hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Looking to replace my old vokey.

 

It's a 62 with 7* bounce. Wondering what is the most similar grind/bounce I can get to this in the SM6?

The SM2 has an E grind. The closest thing Is a sm5 60.07s bent 2° weak. Sm6 S has more bounce

If I had these custom ordered through Titleist with the shafts I want how long would it take? It says 3-4 weeks on TGW. Would it be easier to just buy them OTR, then order the shafts on their own from Golfsmith or something and have the clubbuilder install the shafts. I know the second option is definitely a little more expensive, but I don't want to wait a month for a custom order from Titleist.

Mine arrived yesterday. I am really pleased with the finish as I missed the black nickel. The shape and size look about perfect to my eye.

 

 

 

 

 

What shaft? KBS Hi Rev? Wedge Flex?

As much as I liked the Jet black I just had to do it.

 

 

Process?

Electrical tape around the ferrule. Navel Jelly to remove the black. Soak in CLR for 2 hrs. to soften the grey finish underneath. Wet Sand. Soak again in CLR 1/2 hr. Dry sand. Scotch brite. Do not remove the paint fill if you like what is already there. I only used scotch brite on the face and toe, no sand paper here, so I could keep the laser etch between the groove and the rough pattern section on the toe area. PLEASE do not attempt on any finish other then Jet black.

 

Thanks for the detail in the process ... couple of questions:

- Electrical tape the hosel, up around the shaft AND down below the ferrul patrially to the hosel?

- Soak in pure CLR or CLR and water? Completely Submerge up to the electrical tape?

- Did you scotch brite or sandpaper the face / grooves as well?

- Does it matter what grain of sandpaper (I'm worried about smoothing out the grooves)

I think that's what I'm going to do. I have a pretty good relationship with my local golf store so I think I can get them here earlier than 4 weeks but I haven't talked to them yet.

Same here. I have X100's in mine right now, but they just aren't as consistent for me as the s400's were. I really like that extra weight.

Got a set at a discount from my pro, they look so good I grabbed them without even hitting a ball. Went 52F 56M 60M in black. Not sure if I'll be leaving them as is or stripping the finish, the stripped ones in here look so good. Now I just need to get to the golf course and play them. Can't wait!

I would consider myself in the medium range but the turf here in KY is soft 8-9 months a year and I bought a 50.12 F, 54.14 F, and 60.10 S. It's been said a million times that K is great out of sand and in thick rough. It is not as good on full swings. I am expecting to sacrifice a little around the greens to gain much more confidence on the full an 3/4 shots.

I'm in Lexington and also went with F grind in my SM5 56 cause of softer conditions. Good for a digger like me

I thought I was set on Jet Black but the Steel Grey is looking good as well... decisions, decisions...

 

(sm5's) but the black look sooo good! I stripped the paint-fill, and when the black wears I'll strip it raw.

I tested the white vinegar on my SM5. The stripped well but I wanted them to be more like this.

WOW - this thread is old. Anyhow, I bought SM6 52.8 F grind and 58.8 M grind a month back. After getting them configured to my liking I am really happy. Last weekend I made 3 shots with SM6 58.8-M that I wouldn't elect to have made using my Miura 59/10, due to its wider full sole width and bounce. Great bunker club though, compariable to Titleist SM6 K-grind.

 

Two lob shots resulted in 1' tap in birdie's on Par 5's, but the shot that got my attention was from a down hill tight lie, facing a greenside front bunker, uphill blind shot over the bunker, landing on downhill back of the bunker and rolled to 2' of pin, saving Par 4. They really spin the ball... and feel nice.

Just ordered a 54S and 58K to replace my SM5s. I stayed with the same grinds after having success with those. I'm also debating buying a Wedgeworks low bounce K for no other reason that I want to play around with one.

 

I'm really looking forward to getting them out on the course when they arrive. The first time they're used will be on holiday in Florida.

I just picked up a 52 and 58 M Grind in Black - Stunning!

46/8 F Grind, Jet Black, TI S400 Black Onyx

52/8 F Grind, Jet Black, TI S400 Black Onyx

58/12 K Grind, Jet Black, TI S400 Black Onyx

 

With Z-Cord grips & Stamping, $597.

 

My biggest concern is the 58/12K. I love the full sole K grind but am a little concerned about going from 6* bounce to 12*. I know vokey offers the TVD low bounce K but I'm not interested. My current setup is SM4 52/8F, 58/6M which I've had for 4+ years and it's just time, those grooves are worn!

 

Whats the biggest disadvantage from going from M Grind to K Grind? I'm a good wedge player from 50 yards and out, but lately my chipping and pitching around the greens with my 58 has been very mediocre. I feel like Chicago wet conditions in the spring really don't translate well to lower bounce. I'm excited to put these puppies in the bag!
