No the grey is a plating. The black is the only one that can be stripped.

can the steel gray finish be stripped?

Not by DIY means but if you have one and want it raw you could send it to Continental, they do a great job.

How much weight is lost by stripping the finish?

Not all club mfrs. "standard" length is the same. My irons and wedges will end up +1/2, but could be completely different if ordered a different brand.

They dont even measure the same. Wilson clubs are a half inch longer than Mizunos, at least on the paper. In reality they are so close you could call it "same length"

Dont know why but its true. Nike VPCs should in theory be 1/4" shorter than lets say FG Tour F5s. They are not. They're almost a 1/4" longer.

I went to the Vokey fitting and he put me in 54M and 58M. However since I am a cheapWord not allowed I went to the close-out sale of the SM5's and bought them for $85. I figure I will buy the SM6 next March when they come out with the SM7 :)

The SM5 M grind is fantastic, and I have had 0 issues with digging that is Vokey related.. Tom related maybe :) I play in Texas with short dry turf so I need a wedge that slides.

Full swing 54 is 72 Yards, 1/2 swing is 50 yards

1/2 swing 58 is 37 yards, and 20 yard flop shot.

For those of you playing SM5's or SM6's that are considered diggers what is your setup? I play a F Grind 50 with 8* of Bounce, a 54 M Grind with 10* of bounce, and a M Grind 58 with 8* of bounce. After I attended a demo day the fitter told me I needed to be playing the 50 F grind with more bounce, and change my 54 to F Grind instead of the M Grind. Lastly he had me try the K Grind. I liked the grind, however I didn't get to hit any balls around the green with it. I love my M Grind 58 because it's basically my club I use for anything 89 yards and closer. My question is do I play the K Grind in 58 and pick up the 62 M grind for around the greens? I'm worried about hitting shots around the green with the K grind. So what are you guys playing?

I'm a digger and have a Sm6 50 F with 12*, SM5, ,54F with 14* and a SM5, 58K with 11*. Only shot I can't hit is a high flop off of an extremely tight lie or hard pan.

I would consider myself in the medium range but the turf here in KY is soft 8-9 months a year and I bought a 50.12 F, 54.14 F, and 60.10 S. It's been said a million times that K is great out of sand and in thick rough. It is not as good on full swings. I am expecting to sacrifice a little around the greens to gain much more confidence on the full an 3/4 shots.

I just wanted to chime in and say the 60-degree M grind is a winner. I had been playing with a Glide 58TS (which I really liked, I might add) and bought one just for fun. Within minutes of practicing with it, I knew the Glide was getting kicked out of the bag. They're about even on full shots (I might give a slight edge to the PING), but the Vokey is significantly more versatile around the greens, far better out of the sand, and possibly spun more (hard to tell if it was just the loft difference). I like to play a lot of different shots with the face at a variety of angles and was initially going to get the L grind with 4 degrees of bounce, but after playing with both, the L grind was (for me) insignificantly better when opening the face and worse in every other aspect. It felt like the face wanted to be open and I had to force it to be closed.

I haven't look at the S grind yet.. I'm thinking instead of going 50,54, and 58 that I may go 50 55 and 60.. I am positive the F grind will work for my swing in my 55, but I need to play with a 60 in M, S and K grind for shots around the green.

That's me. Playing f grind in the 50/54 with the 58k. Bounce is my friend.

My SM6's got delivered yesterday - 52 F, 56 S, 60 K. I've been playing SM4's for the past couple of years - 52.08, 56 and 60 TVD-K (not the low bounce K). I got the SM6's in steel grey and they look great. The SM6 K grind looks really close to the TVD-K grind I have right now, if anything the sole on the SM6 might be a little wider. I went to the course today just to practice on the range and short game area and first impressions are really good. The K grind works exactly like the TVD-K that I'm familiar with. I was a little apprehensive about the S grind on the 56 since there were no LH demos available before I ordered, but I like it a lot around the green. No full shots yet with the wedges since only the mats were open on the range, but pitch and chip shots with the 56 S were fine with no digging, even on the wet turf here in MA after a lot of rain. So far I like the SM6's a lot.

Picked up SM6 Steel Gray 54.10 S and 58.10 S a month ago.

I planned to purchase the black, but the steel Gray looked too good in person.

This is my first season playing Vokey wedges, so i am excited to learn and improve.

I wasn't 100% on which grind/bounce i should go with since the simulator isn't as good as getting outside IMO.

In March, i played about 4 rounds in Phoenix....so far - so good.

I am curious, what is the advantage of getting a black finish, then to go strip it to raw, compared to just getting one of the other finish in the first place ?

Raw allows the wedge to rust which increases spin, Some players love it!

it doesn't increase spin. Proven fact. It just feels a lil softer not being plated. The new ones are quenched though which makes them harder

True. Actually in some cases more rust actually imparts less spin but it's so minimal it isn't noticeable.

I have only played 1 round with my new SM6s, but so far I love them. I am switching from SM5s, which I loved, and was on the fence about these when the arrived even though the look amazing. First shot of the round with them was a 100 yard 56* that felt amazing and gave me a 6ft birdie putt. next hole I had about 120 out and hit the 50 to the heart of the green. They have an amazing feel to them, especially around the green. I loved my SM5s and still highly recommend them to anyone wanting to save some money, but the SM6s are the real deal.

I considered the black, but prefer to see more contrast between the grooves and heel/toe. With the black it all just blends in. Look very cool in the bag though!

Really enjoying the SM6s so far. Similar performance, but a bit more soft/solid feeling than the SM5s imo.
