my friend who is 70 but still an excellent golfer and one of my country's top seniors has a complete custom-fitted set from driver to putter plus the big staff bag for which he paid $6000...

i hit a few shots with the irons--311s-- and i was impressed...

excellent feel....

but not in my price range---at the moment.

Bob Parsons isn't going from billionaire to millionaire even if PXG failed many times over. I don't think Bob has failed in any business venture either even though PXG is probably the riskiest he has ever done. I think they already expanded their offices and headquarters too.

The times I've seen Zach on TV his iron play has been off. He seems to hold it together and score OK but that's more to do with his putting than anything else.

His driving distance is up a few yards, but his accuracy at 63% is horrible this year. Putting is better than 2014-2015, but not as good as his better years. His strokes gained tee to green (PXG's supposed bread and butter?) is what has taken a beating. His greens in regulation percentage is quite high, better than recent years. His proximity to the hole, maybe due to erratic driving, is 2-4 feet worse than other years.

I old enough to remember when Rory McIlroy wasnt going to survive the switch from Titleist to Nike, either, and people were openly wondering when he'd crawl back to Titleist on his hands and knees begging for forgiveness.

When touring professionals are struggling, its not the equipment.

The start of this comment really worries me, as I am old enough to remember when Mickelson switched from Yonex to Titleist.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

It sometimes is the equipment. Not always, but sometimes. I thought if Rory hadn't had a great 2014, Nike and Rory could have split. It was more than equipment with Rory. He had more pressure than all of the PXG converts combined (probably making more than all of them combined).

I think alot of wrxers are putting to much emphasis on equipment and not on the skills of the golfers. Equipment is such a small part of the game.

Equipment is a huge part of the game. Dont see persimmon anymore do ya?

I think he meant company vs company, not 2016 vs 1990s clubs

You are correct but since PXGs marketing department, a lot of people buying the clubs and Parsons didn't get the memo they are going to get held to s different standard than others.

from what i've seen and hit of the actual clubs i would classify them as semi-game improvement irons...

perhaps that is why some of the pros cannot fully adapt to them yet----too forgiving for their standards...

On the NBC broadcast today, Zach dumped an approach into a water hazard.

Commentator said that he is struggling to adapt to his new equipment.

Can't buy that kind of advertising!

Agreed that's a PR hurt, but those on wrx know the announcers are full of sh*t - over est yardages, wrong clubs, ridiculous statements about the course conditions , hell head covers on the bags fool most of the un educated golfing public

i guess it's all about individual preferences and ability to pay when it comes to golf equipment--or any other equipment for that matter...

i personally like the PXG clubs i've seen and hit...i just don't have the ability to pay for them at the moment...

These clubs are supposed to be so good that they can elevate anyone's game. That's what their advertisements say, at least.

But, they don't seem to be elevating ZJ's game. Chris Kirk's game (he hasn't seemed to be the same since the broken hand though). Nor BillyHo's game.

Just curious how long they can go with a pretty big paid tour presence and no success without drawing attention for it. Will they reach out to a player that's having success?

Maybe they hired those PING engineers to make clubs that would help Bob Parsons, not Billy Horschel. These things aren't S55's or AP2's.

Classless seems like a red herring.

I don't think your choice in clubs reflects how much class you do or don't have.

But, I am curious, in a saturated market full of pseudoscience and designs claiming unproven benefits, where does a brand fit that claims incredible benefits and can't buy a player to prove it for them?

It seems to ultimately prove whether or not sponsorship actually works. Or doesn't work as it might be in this case.

Are these guys anti-marketing at this point?

What's the best finish of 2016 for PXG? Ryan Moore had a top ten, right?

Chris Kirk looked good on the first day at Bay Hill. Can he keep it together? Is he missing the Callaways?

Let's be honest: these guys are not on the leader board every week with their old clubs either. I don't think it's the pxg brand id say it's the player for sure.

Johnny Miller commented on Saturday that he had spoken with Zach and that he was still really struggling with the equipment change and just wasn't comfortable.

I don't subscribe to the Darrell anymore but I hear they have 4% of the irons on tour and 4.4% of the hybrids. With numbers that high, there has to be additional pros playing them other than their staff.

I wonder if Zach is going through the count early in the week and then switching his clubs before the first round? That would inflate the PXG numbers.

If 150 tee it up every week, 4% is 6 players. Sounds about like their tour staff.

What does class have to do with it? The world is full of people that pay a premium for name brands on things they don't need. Keeps the world turning.

I doubt anyone is envious of someone else's PXG clubs.

Just the way that ad on page 1 is worded. For a premium high end company it lacks class.

I know we are not supposed to talk about politics but a good analogy would be that PXG is similar to you know who. You can be rich all you want but class can't be bought.

yeah, I can't believe she's not in jail yet either.

Before this one comes off the rails, how about the PXG staff at the WGC Match Play. Both ZJ and Chris Kirk played pretty well considering their performances lately. Maybe one of them can put on a show at the Masters !?!

Must say one of the things I take exception with about PXG is the use of the word "extreme." Having lived on the margin of "extreme" sports for 20 years I feel I can aptly say there is nothing "extreme" about golf nor will there ever be. Extremely talented engineers, extremely expensive, extremely ugly, but still not "extreme." It's like the marketing and the market don't sync up in the least. I think Will Mackenzie is the only tour pro that knows anything of extreme, perhaps they should have recruited him, throw in a Mountain Dew with each set of irons.
