tiger-woods-elin-nordegren-12032015.jpg

?

A) She is clearly smaller than him

B) He's not built like any linebacker I've ever seen

I heard a good one on Jim Rome by someone who wrote in...

With all the special SEAL training that Tiger got, he still couldn't defend himself against a 93 lb. model holding a 4-iron!

Jim Rome is a jackass and so is the guy who wrote that.

Jim Rome is a D-bag. I really wish 'Chris' Everett would have beat is @$$ in that day and did us all a favor.

One of the best videos, ever.

Well written but it was a total re-hash. Everything in the article has been discussed ad-nauseum over the past 4-5 years.

Rocky, hard relationship with dad. Check.

Went lust-crazy after dads passing. Check.

Loner and misanthrope. Check.

Probably regrets a lot of things from his past. Check.

I was hoping Sobel had something new.

A bag of left-handed junk.

I was gonna say somethin cuz Maddie, as a female, said a number and it sure the hell wasn't 90, and then I thought it was a wedge versus a 4i, though I figured maybe he was talkin about one of the other ones.

He's 185, are we talkin NFL or a high school single A or double AA school LB??

Hell, at 215, I was the smallest of our 3, lol

I'm kidding!!!!

Have a nice weekend :)

I’m impressed with the effort that went into the article. It was well put-together. It told us a lot of the same things we read in Hank Haney’s book, The Big Miss. If you read that, this article doesn’t really tell you much you didn’t already know outside of a few details regarding when and where Tiger met with military personnel and a few strange details about Earl’s funeral which may or may not be crossing a line journalistically. Nevertheless it’s always interesting to hear The Tiger Story told once more. I’d say it’s now more or less public record. The facts are in!

In Tiger’s defense, it doesn’t surprise me one bit that given the chance to hang around and/or train with military personnel that he did so. I would think that any combat or military enthusiast would indulge himself given the opportunity. I know people who’ve gone or would love to go sky-diving. I know many people that attend tactical shooting classes on a regular basis. I know people who train in hand to hand combat as part of their workout routine. Heck, my sister has trained in Krav-Maga and she’s a computer scientist! It’s not exactly secret knowledge or uncommon to find people interested and proactively pursuing these kinds of things. I’m not at all fazed by Tiger’s apparent interest especially knowing a lot of it was clearly on a superficial level.

What I do find strange is the notion of actually leaving your profession to join the service. There’s no way around it. That is something profound but it comes off more like a mid-life crisis than anything serious so I’d happily give Tiger a pass on that, particularly knowing he had just lost his father. God knows what big questions he was thinking about. Simply put, Tiger appeared to have been living out a fantasy. Based on comments from the Seals, that seems accurate.

So to me, none of the story up to there is really all that un-believable. A little surprising, yes, but it’s certainly quite understandable.

What always seemed out of the ordinary to me was the infidelity. While many would say it comes with the territory, and Lord knows it often does, I think it’s a bit of an oversimplification to write it off as standard operating procedure. I don’t think a massive string of extra-marital affairs is something that ever automatically happens to you. Wealth and power certainly make it easier, especially considering you feel more successful and more influential than the elements in society that attempt to decide what’s moral and what isn’t—the media. It would certainly be easy to sit in Tiger’s position and feel obliged, but Tiger would have known from the beginning that cheating on your wife isn’t allowed. He would’ve at some point had to have made a choice.

At some point Tiger slid into a life of depravity. It wasn’t his declining attitude on the golf course. It wasn’t his military training. Up to that point, he’s still just a person. There’s nothing serious to indict there. But at some point he said ‘yes’ to something he knew in his heart was truly wrong. At some point he crossed a threshold that he knew he needed to keep secret.

I don’t think Tiger has to apologize for his childhood. He doesn’t have to apologize for the relentless work ethic that won 14 majors and left him somewhat socially awkward. Plenty of people are like that. In fact, those people may very well be the best of humanity. Tiger doesn’t have to apologize to us for anything. He just has to make peace with his own 1 mistake.

The only thing I believe Tiger would really change if he could is the infidelity. That’s the only thing that seems completely immoral and out of place. It’s the thing that I think bugs Tiger because it’s his biggest personal flaw and everyday it’s right there, staring him in the face. He’s probably not going to get his marriage back. His kids are inevitably going to find out. There’s no way around those things. Your life becomes one day after another when you’ve got a scar like that, each slightly happier and healthier than the day before because you’re one day further from your lowest point.

If I could hold out hope for Tiger in one way it would be that he and Elin truly find happiness and that she find a way to forgive him. I can’t begin to understand their relationship but it will probably shape the rest of Tiger’s life. I glad that he seems as dedicated now to being a stand-up father as he was to golf in his heyday.

I think the article recognizes that and so I give the author a lot of credit.

A few other closing comments:

(1)

Why don’t we question Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter and other athletes who very likely acted as large influences pulling Tiger into a world of depravity? What makes them honorable or even passable figures? I’ve heard tell of these kinds of celebrity-athletes flying into Vegas together for weekends here and there. It’s no surprise the kinds of debauchery that ensued in those environments. It’s as twisted as you’d imagine according to lore. Why do we come down so hard on Tiger knowing he succumbed to the pressures of that world? I wonder whether he ever had a choice? What other world could he have fallen into?

It’s normal. People are fallible. Bad influences corrupt people—and it’s not a matter of who you are either. It’s only a matter of how long it takes. Everyone eventually breaks. Everyone eventually gives up their old morals for new ones. If we’re mad at Tiger for being unfaithful, why don’t we look at the folks who helped push him towards those decisions? This article paints MJ as a wise old sage. I’m not sure I buy that.

(2)

What I find amazing is how Tiger was able to juggle so much for so long. On Monday he was skydiving with Seals, on Tuesday he was a husband and father, on Wednesday he was an adulterer, on Thursday he was re-learning to swing like Ben Hogan and by the time Sunday rolled around he was winning some significant golf tournament and looking like the most dominant player we’d ever seen? That’s an amazing amount of time management. I thought the phrase about living in anguish was a perfect interpretation of what most religions teach. Tiger was burning the candle at both ends and undoubtedly living in a mental hell.

(3)

When I read about how many of the Seals didn’t take kindly to Tiger’s presence and how he was invited to speak in front of a class of Seal recruits I thought of John Du Pont. On the golf course, Tiger was king but in a classroom of Seal recruits he came off a bit like JDP teaching Olympic wrestlers, lol.

(4)

Headstones are for the living. The dead can’t read.

(5)

The phrase “Tiger Woods buried his father in an unmarked grave” rubs me the wrong way. You’re taking a phrase that is usually used in court-room dramas and attaching it to the most pivotal and disturbing moment of a man’s life, the burial of his father. For all we know, Tiger honored Earl’s last wishes. Maybe it was the wish of the family? It could even be that Earl is secretly interred elsewhere or that he was laid to rest in a manner that was aimed at deterring would-be grave-robbers. Who knows? But to take that moment, as personal and as painful as it is, and to be so careless with it all for the purpose of shock value is in poor taste at least. I suspect someone likely injected that line or mandated it be there to grab attention. It’s a poor decision in my mind.

She is like 5'10 or 11 and probably weights in the 120-140 ranges (you get a +-10lb range from various bone/muscle mass differences you really can't see) and she was using a 9 iron:). It sounds like Tiger was pretty drunk at the time and it is pretty had to defend yourself if you are not willing to hit the other person.

I thought it was well written in that it assembled much data that had been out there piecemeal in a logical chronological order. Plus it wasn't written with a stick up the authors arse unlike Stevie's and Hanks that were written like a spurned girlfriend. Few people doubted that he would be impacted negatively when earl died. Gone was his love me daddy trying to impress pop. I was always amazed/suspicious as to why Elin would have married him, unless she was planning for a big eventual settlement. The Parnivek's who introduced them knew about Tiger's roaming eye. Probably why Jesper kicked himself years later.. Hopefully if he is able to return to tournament golf it will be better than say David Duval. On the other hand it may be like Jordan said "you aren't going to be great again" live with it. Everybody points to Nicklaus as an example of winning in 1986. But in Jacks case he had only gone 6 years since his last major (at 40) not 8 (at 32) and didn't have 3 back surgeries in the interim. I do bet Butch Harmon is smiling as it is obvious what caused Tigers knee problems and it was not the swing Butch taught.

Somebody is a little bit touchy.

Touchy about what? The "Tiger is built like an NFL linebacker" is one of the oldest exaggerated adages of the site

I thought everyone would pick up the sarcasm

I guess it's more the guys that were here a few years ago.

Having seen Elin in person I would say she is maybe 5'5" 100-105 pounds.

Bro, I don't know WhoTF you were seeing "in person," but it wasn't Elin

She's 5'10"(178cm), 135-138lbs(61kg)

Maybe it was the same tournament that the guy in the "Cool Pros/Not Cool Pros" thread saw Rocco be a total dick to two 5yo boys....

Only thing was, Rocco wasn't even in the field that week ;)

Oops....

Regardless, Elin is a Bright Beautiful Blonde~

Have a great season :)

Remember when the sex scandal broke there were reports that Tiger had slept with his neighbour, who was 14 when he moved into the house next door. If that's true then it's pretty insidious, and imagine if they had included these kind of details in the article. Maybe there would be a law suit, but my point is that even though this article seeks to passive-aggressively assassinate Tiger's character it still paints a somewhat romanticized picture of his infidelity, and some of these more sordid details make it seem a lot more malevolent to me.

Geezus now everyone is arguing Tiger Woods' ex wife's height and weight.

WTF has this forum become?

Its not the forum, it's me :)

I'm bored, effed up and could live with a few inches and 5-10lbs but half a foot and 25-30 lbs?

Nah.......

Regarding Jonesy, defending him was the start of my mental demise, though I do hope he's getting some starts out on the Western swing-

All he asked for was a chance...

Have a nice weekend :)
