Enjoy 2017 because it'll be the last

This coming from the guy that has free clubs...

Don't get me wrong, I have no ill will towards Nike. Tom Stites is one of the best in the biz if not the best, just trying to drop a little tidbit.

Unless something has changed...Isn't Stites retired. I think he was rarely there as far back as when we had the first Oven trip.

I would not be surprised. I cannot imagine they have ever made a dollar out of hardware. Nike stuff was great a few years ago but is now pure bling.

Im pretty sure none of the Brands are getting rich off of hardgoods.

Nike clubs have come a long way, I see their clubs almost every time im playing now.

The people who claim Nike is abandoning the club market don't understand how the golf industry works. Clubs are a low margin item. Nike doesn't care how much they net from the club market. What it gives them is legitimacy in the apparel and footwear segments - which are high margin segments. Legitimacy and clean, top to bottom, advertising on some of the most prominent players in the game. One logo on the best players in the world - not a logo buried behind 2 financial services companies, 1 insurance company, and an electronics firm. One logo, not NASCAR. That sells highly profitable apparel.

Having said that, Nike club R&D is right there with the best in the business. They didn't recruit beginners or cast-outs from a mid-tier company. They brought in an existing team that was already designing clubs for some of the best players in the world. That team builds outstanding clubs.

And anyone who hasn't even seen a Nike club "in the wild" has some serious tunnel vision. I see them every day. As plentiful as Titleist or Ping? No, of course not. Those companies (which also make an outstanding product) have been around many decades longer than Nike and, in particular, Nike Golf. But if you look in the bags of high level juniors, you will see a much higher proportion of Nike. I can also tell you that whenever someone asks to hit my Fly Pro irons or Fly driver, after they do, the response (from the uninitiated) is "Wow. I had no idea. That's really good."

But yeah, I guess I could be completely mistaken and Nike is getting out of the club business in 18 months because a couple of guys on an internet message board claim to never have seen Nike clubs at a golf course. . .

Funny this discussion comes up the day after I tour The Oven....

The club business for Nike isn't going anywhere. Those guys put their heart and soul in designing and testing out the equipment.

Work long hard hours testing and everything. They care about it I don't care what kinda money they make on clubs. They will not go away.

You have no factually information to back that up, so when you are wrong will you come back and admit it? Either that or you know something Nike doesn't know yet.

Or Nike is just trying to find a way to eliminate their youngest most promising president on staff. But you know better.

My point was that many people will not play Nike just because it is Nike, which is silly. Similar bias occur with other brands, but it seems to be more prevalent in regards to Nike. I was at the range last fall and some hack teaching pro was telling his students to never by Nike because the clubs were junk. All the Nike hate makes me want to go out a put a photo blue driver in my bag.

A little story about Nike bias which does exist.

I was in a local shop about 2 months ago and a guy was getting fitted for some new wedges and stuff. He was also getting his lofts and lies checked. He was playing a driver and then 4 iron with nothing in between and said he didn't like hybrids or 3 woods. So the fitter is having him hit clubs and his buddy and I were talking about Nike's toe sweep wedges. He is hitting a club and just striping it and was giving him the best numbers of 4 or 5 different 3 irons. He overhears us and starts saying how crappy Nike's clubs are and the gutter starts laughing. He asked the fitter why he was laughing and the fitter just said "you realize you just asked me to order you a Nike 3 iron.

Was hitting today next to a high school team (all players buy their own clubs, not some hyper crazy sponsored team, just a regular D1 school). Lots of nike drivers in those bags, various generations.
