Likewise.  While forming the prior post, thought of Reasy as well.  Wondering how he was getting on, hoping all is well.  He's missed.  After all, he is the Godfather (aka da' Judge) of this joint.  Also, Sixty.  His humor always gave me a good chuckle.

Reading minds is my second great skill, painting being the first as golf now seems to be out of reach. Damaged my shoulder a few months ago and it is not going to fully heal as there is no cartilage in the main shoulder joint. Not a problem as unfortunately golf has not been a high priority for some time, and I did major damage to three different tendons. I know I have been away for some a while, amazing how fast it goes and it does go faster as you grow older 80 next May so I know all about it, if only the body speed kept pace with time I would be a world champion sprinter.

 

My personal world has stopped still, not been out much, no one visiting and generally keeping to myself. We were members of a few clubs but have not attended now for almost two years, we are hoping for normality to come back soon so we can once again at least pretend to live a useful life. 😜

 

Missed Gus Cyndy and Tammy almost as much as the general banter that goes on around here, missed reading about the good golf and the not so good golf, and most of all the friendship and acceptance from everyone in the Grille. I am now resolved to once again be here more often, ok not too many groans😠, but unfortunately my contribution to golf talk will be less than usual, if thats possible.

 

Thank you all for still being here and being concerned for our missing members.

Welcome back Tol!  Nice bird!  Speaking of birds, I was afraid you had flipped us off.  😆  

Glad you are still around and using your great talent.

 

 It was a perfect fall day here. We spent too much time looking for balls hiding in the fallen leaves. I should get a small electric leaf blower to carry in the cart.

 

I had my usual tale of 2 nine rounds. 45/38. I had dreamed of one day shooting a round in the 60's but  I am now having a hard time breaking 80.  Will turn 70 in May and have scored 4 70's over the years but not for awhile. Maybe I can get hot one more time and shoot my age before I move up to the senior tees.

@tolmij  Happy to see the return of our Aussie correspondent.  You've been missed.  Unfortunate to learn of your accident.  That sucks.  Hopefully it's not too painful moving forward (one day at a time).  However, golf is but a mere recreational diversion.  The creation of art offers greater intrinsic value.      

 

Another splendid piece of artwork.  Excellent detail in the feathers.  Classes up the joint.  A worthy addition to the Grille's Grande Salle D'exposition.  What's it called?  Art has to named something, in order to qualify for Pictures at an Exhibition.  Went to a Van Gogh exhibit in Detroit this summer, all his pieces had a name.  

 

Say hi to Mrs. T.  Keep on painting.  Don't be a stranger.  I'll do my part to keep you supplied with diversionary tales of mediocre golf.

Welcome back Tol!  Sorry to hear about the shoulder. You can get that shoulder replaced. Saw

some of the older LPGA players at some event awhile back on TV and one of them was playing

with a new shoulder. Keep the faith ole buddy!

Sorry to hear about the shoulder injury.  Hope that the situation is manageable going forward and not impinging too much on quality of life.

 

It's the autumn season here with golf quickly winding down as we are in an extended wet period.  I have a tee time Wednesday.  That might well be the last outing of the year.  Curling is now underway, so lots to keep this correspondent busy!

 

Keep the quality art work coming.  You add an aire of sophistication to our humble digs.

Just got an email from my men's league convener.  The golf course is closing Nov. 5, so there are potentially three games left, two of which I won't be playing due to conflicts.  Tomorrow might be it then.  🏌️‍♂️

Thanks everyone for the good wishes, one up side to the shoulder problem is I am now becoming ambidextrous, as it is not possible to continually lift my right arm the other one has to do lots of work, it comes almost natural after a time.

 

Sco, I remember well the months in England when the golf courses were closed. Being where we are and sub tropical they are open all year round, in the 13 years I have been using my local course I can only remember once when it had to close and that was because of a flood, funny how you soon get used to it.

 

Was going to get my net out next week and try some chipping, if I can get past the problem with that I may go to our local short  course, par three, and give it a go, if I do hurt it chipping, DW will ream my backside😁

@tolmij Put your toe in the water golf-wise, see how it goes.  Your bod will tell you if it's doable.  

 

Miss having a decent Par 3 course nearby.  There was one adjacent to a regulation course reasonably close, but it closed a few years back.  The Mrs and I would go there to play an easy 18 (2x9 holes).  When she was picking up the game.  Wasn't intimating for her, good practice for me.  The longest hole was like 125 yards.  Suppose the cost of maintenance v. the amount of play didn't warrant keeping it open.  There are a few Par 3's in the greater metro area that are suppose to me quite nice.  Well maintained, smaller plots of land, operated by a pubic park system.  But they are not remotely close.  

 

Played this one on two occasions.  While on a group golf trip to the area (Northern Michigan).  Not your typical easy to play Par 3 course.  Threetops was where they held ESPN's Par 3 Shootout some years back.  Trevino once won a cool Mil with a HIO on the very elevated tee #7 (the hole at the 10 second mark). Don't recall landing on the green either time.

This is no joke--- I have a bud of mine who has had both knees replaced------ I know of at least 1 hip replaced and a shoulder too--- We call him the Bionic Man----- Now he is on kidney dialysis 3 times a week or more--- Nothing to do with parts replacement and he has also had a 5 way bypass. And no he is not able to play golf anymore because of the kidney thing

DW had a hip replacement in 1977 by the man who pioneered the procedure, never been a problem since. The problem was the result of a childhood illness, TB of the hip joint.

Yes, whatever happened to him? He is enjoying retirement so, all have weathered Covid quite well, and Gus, Cyndy and Tammy are preparing for Halloween Trick-or Treating... except Cyndy, who is preparing for Tryk-or-Treatyng... Even though the balance is not good, my grandson invited me to play golf with him in a scramble this summer, so I did, and was able to drive the ball exceptionally well. Wasn't able to do much else, but I was really happy about that, so I think I may continue on next year and see what I can do now that he is learning to play.

Ha ha.  Good to read a morning chuckle from you once again.  Was wondering what Gus and the Girls were up to.  Thanks for providing an update.  And that you're keeping on along the path.

Reminiscent of Oakwood Resort in Grand Bend.  I've played there a number of times now.  It's a great spot to go for a mid season get away with the missus.  Stunning sunsets along the shores of Lake Huron add to the attractiveness for the womenfolk

Gosh!!  Hadn't thought of Grand Bend in a long time.  Took a family vacation there in my youth.  Camped with some buds at the Pinery Provincial Park a couple times.  Was a very nice summer resort town as I remember it.  Been nigh on to 40 years since I've been there.  And made me think.....Why isn't Grand Bend on the "get out of town" radar?  Only a couple hours (~120 miles) of easy travel time away, crossing at Sarnia.  

 

Oakwood Resort looks to be a splendid course.  Showing pictures of it to the Mrs. as I type.  Telling her we need to head to Grand Bend next year.  Spend a night or two there.  Looks like they have on-site lodging at the resort.   Maybe by next summer, the border will be fully open without any Covid related crossing gymnastics or restrictions.  

 

I'm getting kinda excited contemplating the possibility.  On a cold, wet and dreary late October day.

Today was a splendid day on the golf course.  My buddy Bob and I were paired up with a couple of lovely ladies from our club's ladies league.  They could play, easily keeping up to us off the tee.  Some good shots were had by all.  Some poor ones too, but such is the way with the mediocre golf that we toil away with.

 

I can't really think of a more prefect day weather wise as it was ~60°F this afternoon with full sun and no wind.  Course conditions were particularly soft with no roll.  No carts allowed and sections of the course were cordoned off as they couldn't be cut.  Greens were surprisingly quick compared to the fairway conditions.  We were continually coming up a club to a club and a half short and then getting a surprise with rollout on chips that landed on the green.  Landing short meant that you were putting from the fringe at best.  Scoring was a challenge, but it was a good test.

I can remeber back when I played in England, 60f was good weather, now we have our air con in the summer set at 75f and that is cool. Surprising how  you change with your circumstances. Before we came to Australia DW told me I would find in the 70s cold and I did not believe her, one job I worked when it got to 60 we used to sit outside with our shirts off to soak up the hot weather, now I am putting on my jumper.

 

Happy for you having an enjoyable game, at least in here I can live golf vicariously.

 Just had the feeling that October had some kind of anniversary going here for me, but wasn't sure of the exact date till I checked this morning. October 28th, 2011, 10 years ago today I joined WRX. Wonder if they send free golf clubs, or money or anything? 

 

scotee, you will enjoy turning 70 in May as I did this year. Nothing to it, you just wonder where all the time went, and so fast. Hope you can shoot your age, at least it would be easier to say you're shooting 'in the 70's' rather than 'in the 60's'. One thing about moving up to the senior tees is if you are available for a scramble somewhere, people will be looking for you to be on their team because of the advantage of your drives from the senior tees puts you out there farther. Anyway, at least being retired is nice at whatever age you retire.

 

I miss par 3's too Fella, we used to have one near us here, and they finally sold it, now it's been covered over with apartments. There was one in the town we used to live in 30 years ago. They are great to practice on for the short game, and I never used a tee when teeing off, just to simulate being in the fairway for my tee shot. I really both courses a lot. It's also where I taught my son to play golf. 

 

It's good to see that pretty much everyone seemingly has made it through Covid. Has Reasy been on here in recent history?

Reasy has made the odd appearance.  He drives by and says hello.  Then he's gone again about as quickly as he appeared.  I think that life has been a challenge for him lately, although I don't know the details.  I miss his contributions, after all the grille was his brainchild.
