I used to wonder what city name was used the most around the USA. I guess I could google

it but I'll save that for after. Just anecdotally I saw more Lebanon city signs around the

country than any other name. My guess was well over 20 states have a Lebanon. OK, now

I'm gonna go google it (actually DuckDuckGo it) now.

 

Edit; wow, had to wade through much misinformation to get to the facts I was looking

for.  I DID NOT include cities/towns like say Franklin Park; only cities named Franklin

and the same goes for the rest. No counties or parishes; just city/town level. Here's

the top names up to Lebanon; which is the name I started with. Washington is name

that gets much mention but there are actually only 29 cities named Washington, only.

Haha! Yes, they write the address starting with the yuubinbangou (zip code), then state, city, etc. and down to the name at the end. It goes from big to small.

I had things delivered with just a zip code and my name, since the mail carrier knows everyone on the route.

 

It was so weird to come back to the west where you have to read from bottom to top to figure out how to deliver something.

 

 

The date system is more logical too. year/month/day. Again, big to small. Many people get confused when in the US or getting letters/ email with a date 2014/02/08. Japanese would expect it to be the 8th of February, but Americans would think the 2nd of August. WHYYYYYYY????? lol

 

But they also use a different date system. The year resets with each new emperor. So a persons birthday and dates on government documents use that system. So the year 2000 in Japanese calendar was "平成 12" - 12th year of the "Heisei era" or 12th year of the reign of the previous emperor.

 

That's why Japan didn't freakout over Y2K.

 

 

I still have my Japanese drivers license. Now that, was an adventure to get. Japanese pay about US$ 3,000 for a drivers license...

I wouldn't be surprised. I ran into conflicting info when I was poking around

looking for numbers on other city names.  Names like Riverside or Lakeview,

etc. are very common. I didn't think to look at government sites, lol. I imagine

the post office has a good list too.....somewhere.

I've been playing along.  And it's VERY complicated and confusing.  Perhaps due to how one defines a named "place".  City, village, town, borough, CDP (census designated place), unincorporated community.   Townships should be included (charter and civil), a common governing entity here.  The eighth most populous municipality in the state is a charter township (Clinton Township).  Yet, there's  inconsistencies of what gets placed on the "popular names" list.  There's a Springfield (City) on the list and a Springfield Charter Township that is not.  The P.O. is listed by another name (Davisburg), even though it's just a 4 corners locale with no official governing designation.  Yet, the exact same situation elsewhere is listed.  Georgetown Charter Township (the governing entity) is listed, and it has a Jenison, Mi P.O. that is not an official place.   There's a Bristol, MI listed as a named place entity and it's a ghost town!!  

 

So take your pick.  According to the "all places" Wiki page:  Washington, Franklin, Clinton.  USPS:  Clinton, Madison, Franklin/Washington.  USGS:  Riverside.  World Atlas:  Washington, Springfield, Franklin.

Saw a USPS database (by zip) yesterday, but I'll be if I can locate it now.  Always been fascinated by geography things, but this is proving to be too great a challenge.  Easier to discuss swing things rather than a definitive "most commonly named" anser.  It's too early in the a.m. for this tomfoolery.  Who asked this question anyhow?

Splendid fall day yesterday.  Took the grandkids to Cook's dairy farm.  Checked out the cows.  Wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins.  The wagons being pulled by a number of vintage tractors (local tractor club) which was very cool.  Chatted up the fellow who's tractor (McCormick) it was doing the pulling.  And driven by his grandson.  Little guy (10 months) was totally into the trip, gandering all about.   Cider and donuts.  Lots of peeps around doing the same thing.  Nice way to spend a few afternoon hours.  Had fun.

Fella-- I used to always love the pumpkin festivles in the Midwest--- Used to run US 30 throught Ohio quite a bit and went to pumpkin festivles along that route during the fall season.

 Nope.  Not a fan of the hard ciders.  Tried, sampled more than few. Some were barely OK, others undrinkable.  Perhaps my palette has been permanently tainted by a near death experience with Boone's Farm Apple way BITD.  

 

I am a fan of regular ciders though.  Been consuming mass quantities for the last month.  The one I like the best is from a local cider mill (5 miles away) that has the tart/sweet ratio perfect.  In fact, consuming now having just come in from mowing the yard.  And sat down to do what else.  Check the WRX.

My grand-dad made hard cider from apples and pears. The pear was the best and there were several local dignitaries and a few pastors who were known to partake. I used to go to Alberta and Saskatchewan to hunt honkers and the farmers were always asking me for a jug of Cider and one of my DW's pecan pies.

I remember one particular camping trip to Port Burwell in the summer after high school.  I believe that Boone's Farm was on the menu for breakfast.  I also recall a beer bottle pyramid of some note that weekend.  A lot of crazy sh*te went down in those days... 🤫
