I just got inside a few minutes ago. I am performing the " Get rid of the YellowJackets nest " duties.

Got one last night and the other two this evening.  All the years here and this is the worst i have ever seen. I get rid of one and a week later another shows up somewhere else . Spiders...everywhere this summer. The yearly stink bug parade has started.. Fellows, the insects are taking over. I hope we have a week or two of well below zero this winter !

New acquisitions arrived today in the form of a pair of Cobra Baffler DWS hybrids with Nippon NS 950 shafts in R.  These are in really great shape and came with NDMC grips in midsize, so they're good to go as is.  They are a 3 and a 4 hybrid.  With the steel shafts I thought that they would be a direct replacement for the 3 and 4 irons in my vintage bag.  Toss in the R7 driver and away we go; a short bag for all occasions.  Might play them this coming week with my modern irons as they feel really well balanced when I gave the 3h a swing or two this morning after they arrived.

Probably mentioned earlier that we had a couple of small landscape projects that we had hired out back in the spring.  The first guy just put us off and put us off, so I canceled the deal before we went out west.  At that point it was over a month after the job was supposed to have been done.

 

Tried to hire another couple of guys, but they just kept putting us off as well.  I said to the one; just say no.  Don't waste my time with empty promises that keep getting rescheduled the day of.  He didn't like at and fired me! 🤨

 

I did one job back in June over a couple of days because I had plant material that needed to go in the ground with no place to put them, so the new beds were made.

 

This morning I started the edging wall next to the patio.  Dug the trench, laid down the base material and levelled it and then set in the first coarse of edging stone.  We're supposed to get another major rain over the next couple of days so hopefully what's done at this point will be fine as is.  I have a corner to cut and will have to reset those stones and then lay and glue the second coarse of stone.  Back fill with the trench soil (which is being stored under the patio cover) and that job should be finished later this week.

 

I picked up a couple of shrubs at the garden centre on clearance -- a winter creeper and a barberry to finish off the new bed that was cut in June once the tomatoes and peppers are done.  I have to go and choose a Sycamore tree that I ordered a while back for the backyard, then arrange delivery and planting.  That will be it for the landscaping after two years of pretty much constant attention to deal with the mess that we inherited.

 No special diet or heart problems- but as I have gotten older , I have lost my taste for meat and food in general

 I did give up beer for wine or Scotch ( too easy to drink too much beer and feel bloated)

 

  Will eat bacon burger every now and then or BBQ brisket while out but I never cook meat at home

 

I eat lots of fish because I always have lived near the ocean and grew up fishing ( although since I sold my boat  now buy it)

Have a great Chinese place near me and love their chicken dishes

Also big on peanut butter ( eat 2 pounds per week) , honey and also make a lot of cheese omelets

 

I am 6'1" 180 ( 69 yrs old ) and still walk or jog 50 miles per week-resting pulse of 50

Was a track guy so have never been out of shape and my Dad was a Judo and Ju Jitsu instructor through his 80's so exercise was normal in my house

 

Other than that- I am not a CEO and no longer carry a 2 iron

 

All I can say is as you age- walk as much as you can, stretch and only eat things you like and only when hungry

It never ends if you want to keep it looking good.  And I don't haver the big bucks to have other 

folks do it, and like you, i found around here, it is terribly hard to find anyone that wants to work. They want $25.00 an hour to ride a lawnmower.. un-fing  believeable !  And I am like you, in that I just decided to do it myself.  May not be as good as the pros, but  it'll do !

I have high blood pressure.  Cholesterol isn't great either, but it has been steady for a long time at the current level.  Docs love to prescribe meds.  I try and avoid them as much as possible, but am on two pills for BP.  No choice there really.

 

AS for diet, I stick to what I will describe as the Mediterranean diet.  I enjoy the foodstuffs and it promotes longevity.  I've never gone for anything that's advertised as being a health food.  I think mostly it's about eating smaller portions at regular intervals and getting exercise (ie walking).  Everything in moderation sort of mantra as my grandmother used to say.

 

Went to a CFL football game today and all that you see people eating is just crap for the most part.  Greasy pizza might be the healthiest option.  WE got a beer when we got there and that was it for the afternoon.  The plan was to get takeout on the way home, which we did.  Much cheaper and far better food.

 

As for the original question regarding steak, we do eat that on occasion, but most often we share a single rib eye.  I've found that share plates are my favourite way to dine when eating out.

 For fish , I use an old recipe that a Key West commercial fisherman gave me 30 years ago

 

 crush a bag of bbq potato chips-wet fish with 7 up- put in bag and shake until coated

Had to look up DWS hybrids.  Look like they will be good players.  Here's to having them be "Oh Yeah" clubs the first time taken afield. The lofts equate to 20* & 23*?  Little experience playing Cobra's (for no particular reason), but commentary I've perused indicates they make solid hybrids across multiple generations.  Nippon 950's are really good "old guy" steel shafts IMHO.  Find them to be the perfect weight.  Enough heft to assist with keeping the swing slotted, but light enough to swing easily.  Interested to hear your opinion once you've had a chance to swat them around.

Yup.  A degree weaker than current standard lofts for hybrids.  I believe that they are 2006 model year.  I had a 6 hybrid at one time for a hot minute, but didn't really care for that one.  Kinda went no where other than straight up, but that was a few years back.  It was a Dallas Golf special with an off brand shaft that wasn't great.

 

The 3h is mostly going to be used as a tee club.  I had a Nickent 3 that I used for that purpose with good success some time back.  Perhaps magic will strike twice? 🤔

Another "old" hybrid to consider that you can still find is Sonartec. Admittedly I am not a big fan of the hybrid but the Sonartec is the best I've hit to this day. I'm sure there are some modern head designs that are better but if I were forced to carry one, it'd be a Sonartec NP-99.

Had my 6 week hip follow up this morning; though it had actually been 7 weeks. So I'm

sitting in the exam room waiting and the doc comes in and the first words out of his

mouth were "you been playing any golf?" I said "hey, you told me chipping and putting

only until my next follow up!"

 

He laughed and asked me if I had any questions. I only asked how long would it take

to sharpen my weather forecasting skills. He said that skill would take a little longer to

develop and I would never be as good as Cobi since she has more titanium than I do.

 

Anyway, he said to go use my new hip and make some birdies so I am finally off restriction.

Raining today and rain in the forecast for a few more days. I'm chomping at the bit..........

I like hybrids. I've used them off and on over the years and see them growing in number

in my bag as the years keep going by. Last year I bought those G410 hybrids in 17, 19, 22,

26 and 30 degree lofts. I'll probably just carry the 17 and 19 degree ones right now and

add in the others as the need arises. They're adjustable which I really like.

 

Even before I bought these I had pulled my 4 and 7 FWs and had been using my G10 15 and 18

degree hybrids instead. The 15 degree hybrid with the PL Blue S hybrid shaft is a little

beast; beast being a relative term, lol, and based on my meager game. 😄

Got rained out today.  It was miserable.  You could have played, but it was windy with drizzle and cold to boot.  No way this time of year.  Called the club to cancel and book for next week.  Later learned that only one golfer showed up this morning.  I guess he had a stiffer constitution than me.

 

Hope to get a couple of games in this week as it's supposed to dry out over the next couple of days.  Will be playing the full 2000's era bag with R7 driver, Exotics CB1 FW, the Cobra hybrids and my Burner Plus irons along with my old Rossa Tourismo putter.  Seems appropriate for the rest of the way.

Maybe, maybe not.  On those days when the play is less than stellar, could always use the bionic hip is being a bit temperamental excuse.  In a forecasting the weather sort of way.  "I do believe rain is on the  way, the hip is feel'in a bit creaky today.  Not turning on the ball like I did the last time."  I'd have no problem with pulling that one out of the bag when necessary.  

 

When you're a golfer, got to invent excuses.

You piqued my curiosity.  Why lower lofted hybrids in lieu of fairways?  A case of being more reliable?  Higher lofts, with adjustability (flatter lies?), I can understand.  

 

Have an older 19* hybrid around (Cobra Rail H) that I hit half way decently.  Especially from funky lies.  But it's significantly shorter than a comparable fairway so doesn't get bagged.   Implements in that loft range are about maximizing distance (with the assumption that I hit them reasonably straight).  Anyhow, seems as though I hit a lot of shots from distance with a 18* 5w these days.  Driver, 5w, PW/GW on longish Par 4's.  The way I've hit my 6 irons this year, thinking I'd be better served by replacing with a 27* - 30* H of some flavor.

Simply put, for me, the 15 degree hybrid, at 41", is far easier to hit than a 16 degree FW at 43".

hybrid flies lower and runs out to almost the same total distance as my 16 degree 4 wood.

If there's a hazard out there at those distances that I have to cover, I'm gonna lay up short

every time anyway.

 

And yes, I have butted FWs shorter. Takes too much lead tape to bring them back to the

same swing weight and no good place to put it. BTDT, lol.

 

The l'il beast. Come to think of it, this is the only 15 degree hybrid Ping has

ever made. It should be a collectible!

Suspected it might be a length preference.  FWIW, my fairways are .5" shorter than "standard" (5w = 42", 7w = 41.5" 9W = 41").  Gives me a perceived little extra control when wielding them afield.  Plus have a tendency to choke down a bit (~.5").  Don't necessarily subscribe to the longer club = increased distance theory.  Marginal gains if any.  Especially given my SS, whatever it is.  Seem to always hit the fairways it a reasonably straight direction.  

 

Another FWIW.  I have several lead tape varieties depending on what I need to weight.  Like the 1" = 1 gram for adding a small amount with known preciseness for SW'd.  Also will use 1" = 2 grams for adding a lot of weight to a head.  Have 4 3" strips on the sole and another 3" wrapped around the hosel on a B60 putter (total =30 grams) I've been using lately.  Doesn't appear globbed on.  Weights it up decently, at least it's serviceable.

Played today in the mud.  I can't believe that they let out carts under these conditions, but i guess they don't care about long term turf management.  My playing partner hit a sky high tee shot from an elevated tee to a soggy fairway and this is what we found:

Further to that game which was a real trial in terms of getting a game in.  It was slow to be charitable.

 

Hit the ball really well from tee to green with the assorted implements in the signature.  Only used the 5W once off the tee and it was just shy of 180.  The 3 and 4 hybrids were really nice.  Used them a couple of times each from the tee and from the deck.  Hit a beautiful 3h from about 160 to make the green on a mid length par 4 hole.  Hit 3 very nice tee shots with the R7 so the 2000's era bag is definitely in play!

 

Putting was misery.  After 3 holes I gave up as there was no way that you could make a decent stroke on the shaggy soaked greens and not destroy your putting for the rest of the year in terms of weight control.  I just gave myself an automatic 2 per hole and walked off.  I was really happy with my ballstriking and my chipping.  Under normal conditions I would have had close to my low round of the year.  I guess the golf gods were trying to tell me something when the scorecard blew away on the way to the first green. 😏

LOL I thought you would be taller than that---- glad to see you got a good report on your hip-- My bud Bear has that same hybrid and he knocks the crap out of it. In fact he quit carrying any FWs and hits that. Gonna make you cry he found that thing at Goodwill for 2.99---- Do not know if you saw this or not. That young kid Theegala who almost won last week at the Sanderson Farms plays a set of S55s. Saw it here on WRX. And yep you may be able to forcast the weather almost as good as I can. But I could forcast the weather pretty well anyhow before I was hurt. It is a known fact that anyone who has lived here over 2 seasons that fishes or plays golf can see the clouds and judge it and the winds. But like I said glad to see you are getting back into the "swing" of things

Believe it or not I gram out my lead tape on my scale and mark the pieces with a sharpie--- I keep the strips in old medicine bottles. And there can be a difference between rolls of lead tape in the smaller packages too
