It never fails to make my head shake glancing at things 12-handicaps say to enlighten others of how wrong they are about things they know nothing about. It’s an oasis for me when I spend time with tour pros.

Oh I’m sure it is.  And I get it too. My formal education in this game was me being a fly on the wall around a couple of those guys and Their coaches.  I paid a ton via donations to the pot to be that fly on the wall.   Id do it again in a second. 
 

One comment I recall vividly , during my darkest putting days , was this.  Had a guy I play with a lot , who isn’t very good. But keeps his handicap under 10…. Say… “ what you need to do is hit it closer.  “.  At that moment I was riding a streak of zero missed greens 110yds and in for 3 months.  Simply dialed in with the swing.  Which was part of why the putting was such a thorn.  I wasn’t scoring.  But was still carrying a scoring average of 73.5. That’s the kind of thing you have to deal with. And it’s every round.  Somebody will try to fix you.  But  Getting real help is not easy.  But being sent down rabbit holes is very easy.  I still credit some conversations with you on the putting turn around I made. Others helped too , but  From -4 to +1.25 a round strokes gained isn’t too shabby.  Now I just need some good weather !

My memory of Park City is it being an unusual layout with the bunny runs at the top and 

the advanced/expert runs at the bottom. No doubt they have opened up more advanced

terrain at the higher elevations long before now.

 

Didn't actually ski there much when I lived in the area. Locals were like....."Park City a

Touron mountain", lol. I had to do the "local" thing to be cool and ski primarily at Alta

and maybe Snowbird now and then. 

 

No towns or nightlife in those places though; at least back then. Just drive up the

canyon, ski, drive home and go back to work the next day! Park City a much better

place as a ski destination.

 

I did drive by Park City many times in the truck on I-80 before I retired. Saw the growth

going on there over the years with condos and homes sprouting up. 

 

Do they still have the weird drinking rules there in Utah?

 

 

No doubt PCMR is considered a touron destination, but it’s where we taught all of our kids to ski, so it’s a special place for us. Plus, they bought Canyons and connected the 2 resorts with a gondola, making it the largest ski resort in the U.S., which kinda offsets the touron aspect. You can always find some great runs that aren’t crowded and lift lines aren’t more than a few minutes. As DMM has said, the old town area is fantastic and full of great bars and restaurants. Shuttles get you everywhere you need to go. And we usually will head up the Deer Valley mountain one night for drinks/s’mores at the Montage. Instead of dropping major cash at their restaurant, we’ll grab a burger at the bar, which is reasonably priced and excellent. And we ogle all the rich people and pretend we’re with them.

I figured 40+ years would have brought some major changes. Sounds like a great place

these days and that fine, light, dry Utah powder has always been wonderful to ski in/on.

 

I didn't even know there was a Canyons ski resort to be bought! That's how behind the

times I am. Funny, I have these old memories.....that I should probably keep to myself, lol.

 

I skied quite a bit in Colorado. My oldest sister and her clan lived in Steamboat Springs

for many years in the 70s and 80s and into the 90s. But that is now 30+ years ago. These

old images of that town and other towns like Telluride and Aspen that are stuck in time

in my mind are so far out of date. 

 

I essentially stopped vacation traveling when I started driving a truck in the 90s. Just

relished staying home when taking time off. Years go by. My wife and I drove together 

so both became home bodies. Even now, 5+ years into retirement, I have yet to be

bitten again by the travel bug and neither has she......though I have said I will travel

some to play golf here and there.

First big trip I ever took was to Breckenridge. Think it was the winter after I turned 18. Kinda fell in love with the place and I wasn't even old enough to hit the bars yet.

I can relate. I traveled a ton for work, but always on a plane. I still hate airports. I’d much rather drive for our Colorado trip, but not my wife. I prefer to keep the peace than make a thing out of it.

As I recall Breck is very kid friendly.  At least your grandson won't have to fight for a beer at the Horseshoe II.  Are you going directly from Park City to Breckenridge, with your quickly re-acquired Olympic form in tow?  Or some home time in between.

A week or so in between. Then a little over 2 weeks for Breck, Vail and Beaver Creek.

Great news that you’re on the mend. That’s solid improvement. Success breeds more success.

 

There a big difference between dreading putts and the feeling that you can’t wait to get putter in your hands.

 

I remember the story of Hogan griping in a hotel room to his wife that he just couldn’t make enough putts. And she asked why he didn’t just hit it closer to the hole. And he took it to heart. 🙂

Take warm clothes. 
 

Do not get on chair 6 in a high wind. You might get stuck there a while.
