The one I miss is rhubarb. My mother had a couple of rhubarb plants, and I loved her rhubarb pies and crumbles. She also stewed it, like stewed plums, and we ate it with cream or ice cream. That was really good.

Apparently, it is grown here in Japan, but it doesn't find its way to the shops. Might have to look into growing my own...

Sometimes Stu you just have to go for it, I know there are many times I would have been better keeping quiet but did not, as DW put it had many opportunities to be quiet but missed them all.

Hope the back starts to heal soon, it’s possibly the worst place you can injure as it alters every aspect of your life.

Have done alterations on every house we have owned, I suppose the biggest was our first Australian home. It was what they describe as a high set a house built on stilts to allow a flow of air underneath to give a cooling effect in the Queensland summer. It was already bricked in but apart from that just an empty space. DW mother came to Australia and lived with us so I converted it into a one bedroom flat, took around six months used all second hand timber but it worked out well.

Enjoying the brand of sharing underway. All of it. Would love to quote and reply to all but will spare you folks the ten page spew.

Not to exclude anyone or anything, a couple things are in my soul and itching to get out.

Stu, I genuinely hope you're around here for a good long time. Finding the high road in times of pain is hard on the principles, but good for the soul. You've got mountains of both. Thinking about you my friend.

Scomacer, you laid down a post a couple of days ago about what these times have opened your eyes to, and what's truly important. That Sir, was an epic post. Well played.

Radro, public and semi-private courses are the backbone of golf. Ever notice how golf courses always start off as the province of the elite in an emerging culture/economy? Yet eventually it becomes available to the masses. You're right. We lose the plot regarding the challenges of running a golf course as a for-profit - especially when assessing the membership isn't an option. Somehow, someway, golf makes it the moon and back. Got to believe it's here to stay even when a little worse for the wear. Might be nice if a divot or two got filled or a bunker got raked but what the hey? By and large I want to believe many of us treat the course and each other with at least some respect, enough so to help keep it running well enough to come back. You so rarely rant - rant away.

Hey here's a question for your own personal pondering. Not sure there is a correct or best answer since we're individually wired. (Or is there a common issue at work?)

Here goes.

Unless you're the rarest exception to the rule, your warm-up swings upon arrival as well as any dry swings you might apply during your pre-shot.... have very little resemblance to how you actually execute when it counts.

Why?

I agree, golf isn't going anywhere.........but I'm fine with the golf haters taking a permanent vacation. Personally, I don't know any

golf haters. I wouldn't be attracted to such people anyway. I just don't like the game that we love getting a bad rap and seeing

people rejoice over golf course closures. There are millions of us ordinary folks playing this great game.

To paraphrase the late great Harvey Penick................."practice swings are always perfect because you don't have to square the club face", Along

with that comes the notion that a practice swing does not involve a golf ball. Getting a golf ball into the equation changes everything and

brings in that dreaded word.............tension.............because, on the course, you know you only get one crack at each shot.

Moving wood around out back this afternoon and walked too close to the wire fence, a strand of thick wire was hanging out, it put a groove in my thumb hit a flap of skin near my wrist and pulled a one square inch of skin from my wrist. Did not hurt but bled rather well. Nurse DW bandaged it up and has put me on ice for two days. Must be getting bloody old not looking around when I am doing stuff.

Why? Would agree with what has already been mentioned, one is not actually hitting a golf ball. The tempo in a practice swing is not the same as when one is swinging to strike the ball. Typically more languid and sloppy. What purpose does it serve?

Rarely have the opportunity to hit a few balls before arrival at the first tee. So in addition to some stretching motions, utilize a weighted donut that I will slip on the 7 wood to take "practice" swings. Both are for loosening up the lower back muscles. And the swings with the donut are in no way representative of how I swing to strike the ball.

Recall a mention somewhere (perhaps here) of pre-shot practice swings as a waste of effort. And may contribute to slowing of POP in the totality. Thus, I've eliminated pre-shot practice swings. Those few seconds prior to a shot are better served by focusing on feet alignment, ball position, and visualizing the shot that I would like to execute.

Ouch Tol! The things we do to ourselves while projecting. Had a tetanus shot recently?

Similarly. With the stay at home order in place, figured it was time to commence with a long delayed brush clearing project in the backyard. Trimming off lower branches of some pine trees, cutting down some overgrown vines and bushes. Created quite the pile of debris that needed to be drug out to the "way back" dumping area. Had just started dragging out the branches, when I somehow lost my grip on one of them. And a sharp stub of the branch nailed me square in the right eye. Hard. Dropped me to a knee. Took awhile before I could gather myself. I could see out of it (blurry) but figured I would be OK. Continued on with the brush hauling. Was a rare nice day at the time, wanted to get it done. Later on, when I went inside, did I realize really did a number on myself. The eye was badly swollen, beet red, and had bled some. Hurt like the devil. The Mrs. (she wasn't at home at the time) wanted me go to the clinic to have it checked out. I wasn't blinded, so figured it would be OK in a few days. Iced it that evening. Took a week or better to finally get over the self inflicted injury.

Then a week or so later, working on the same project. Had a wheelbarrow full of debris that I was transporting to the same dumping grounds. Which is down a short slope. Stepped funny, and hyper extended my left knee. Tried to continue, but was limping around too badly and had to shut it down for the day. Was scheduled to play golf (for the first time) in two days. Iced it down that evening. Walked (limped) around town with the Mrs. the next day to try and limber it up. I managed to get around the golf course for 9 holes the following day, but strolled gingerly.

I'm paying a whole more attention to what I'm doing outside. Done with causing self-inflicting injury to myself. To "seasoned" for that nonsense. At least until the next time sizzle happens.

Had several of these small but niggling accidents recently, having lectures every time I go to work outside.

You seem to have the same attitude as me to these things, if they don’t stop you dead in your tracks they are not anything to worry about, it’s only when you examine the damage do you really understand how lucky you have been. Today’s was pouring blood so I had to stop.

That's a good one! Apparently I can be that guy, although I do limit my practice swings to two. But, I do the practice swings and then stand behind the ball to find my target and aim and swing for real. I've tried the no practice swing thing and it just doesn't feel comfortable. DW says that I'm terribly slow, but I tend to think that it takes her longer to play because she tends to hack her way around by trying to play fast and not focusing enough on what she's trying to do. WE aren't well suited to each other as golfing partners me thinks...

Not thinking about hitting the shot, just thinking about tempo. And as an * I do not take practice swings unless it is the beginning of round or I have been waiting around for awhile.
